By the time they finished breakfast, it was almost nine o'clock. Xiao Cheng helped Fang He put the washed dishes back, turned to leave the kitchen, but her gaze fell on a certain spot, and she paused slightly.
“Wait…were there bears there when we first arrived?” She pointed to an inconspicuous corner in the corridor.
In just a few hours, the grass growing on the carpet became increasingly lush, almost reaching half a person's height.
Hidden among the lush vegetation, a brown bear doll peeks out, its head adorned with exceptionally clear black glass beads sewn on to serve as eyes, gazing eerily towards the kitchen.
Fang He went over first, picked up the teddy bear, and examined it thoroughly, but found nothing unusual.
“No,” he said confidently. “What time is it now?”
"Just now... at exactly nine o'clock." Number Three suppressed her inner turmoil and reached out to grab her younger brother's arm. "Shall we go downstairs?"
“Definitely.” Xiao Cheng stared thoughtfully at the teddy bear in Fang He’s hand. “Perhaps they’ve discovered some interesting clues down there as well.”
First floor.
Number One frowned, staring at a sentence that had suddenly appeared on the electronic screen.
"Secret #2, where is the little bear brother?"
"Are we looking for the teddy bear?" Number Two asked.
"There isn't one here." Number One looked around; the hall was still empty, and there was no way there could be any teddy bears.
Xiao Cheng and the others happened to be coming downstairs when they overheard the conversation between the two and were not surprised at all to see the new clues added to the screen.
“The bear is here.” Fang He grabbed the teddy bear by the scruff of its neck, shook it at Number One and the others, and then tossed the bear away.
Number One caught the teddy bear rather unsteadily, examined it from head to toe, and said, "It's just an ordinary toy."
"Where did you find it?" Number Two suddenly realized something and asked sharply.
"In the corridor, if I had to pinpoint the exact location, it's between rooms three and four," Xiao Cheng recalled. "What, you think it's related to them?"
"As things stand, no one can be ruled out as a suspect," Number Two shook his head. "But at least we can be certain that it has nothing to do with the keychain the mute girl gave us."
"You can't tell anything from the outside." Number One carefully squeezed the teddy bear from head to toe, shaking his head helplessly. "It seems to be filled with cotton, very thick."
"Let's open it and take a look," Xiao Cheng suggested. "Isn't there a zipper in the back?"
The tiny black zipper is hidden in the teddy bear's brown, slightly curly fur, running from the back of its head to the base of its tail.
Number One reached out and unzipped the zipper, revealing clumps of cotton inside. He then pulled out the cotton clumps one by one.
But still, there was nothing.
