Fang He jumped down the rope ladder to the next cubicle. The moment he landed, the hole in the ceiling closed silently, leaving no gap.
The cubicle was still completely white, empty and devoid of anything.
Fang He gripped the black knife in one hand, looked around, and focused on checking for any mechanisms that might be hidden in the walls.
But they still came up empty-handed.
Combining this with the few cubicles he passed through when he first entered, he could roughly summarize the pattern of the rooms here.
There are at least two types.
A passageway that can be directly opened to other compartments using an internal mechanism.
Another type is like this, where there's no way to leave directly from the inside; you can only wait for the next spatial transformation, or for someone to break through from the outside.
Given the current situation, he was unsure of Xiao Cheng's predicament, but considering the worst-case scenario, he assumed she was also trapped.
The only hope is that the Rubik's Cube will be turned again.
Fang He silently recalled the enormous phantom he had seen earlier.
No matter the size of the Rubik's Cube, it can be solved or scrambled according to specific rules, and the same principle applies when placing it in these compartments.
He crouched down and began gesturing on the ground with his fingers, constantly recalling his memories in order to find the patterns that worked within them.
He didn't have time to wait for the established procedures here.
The appearance of the clones and the black knife were all sending him the same signal.
There's no time left.
He overturned many conjectures in succession, and kept starting to deduce the possibilities again and again. Finally, things became smoother and smoother. Then, he suddenly stopped moving and stood up abruptly.
"Found it..."
He checked the direction, turned around and walked to the corner of the cubicle diagonally opposite, stretching out his fingers to indicate a distance.
A flash of light appeared.
With a crisp crack, a very thin crack gradually spread outwards and continued to extend downwards and outwards, with dense, crisscrossing fissures.
Starting from the cut, the wall is continuously eroded, turning into mottled mosaic noise, gradually disintegrating to reveal the deep void behind it.
Deep inside the cave, a fiery red object could be vaguely seen, surrounded by a light gray mist, making it impossible to discern what it was.
But the thing was clearly alive, beating rhythmically like a heart.
Then the phantom of the giant Rubik's Cube reappeared, with one of its squares falling outside, completely enveloping the damaged blank compartment and slowly repairing the cracked wall.
The sound of the mechanism operating rang out again, and the Rubik's Cube began to twist once more. This time, Fang He felt it more clearly, with a subtle vibration, but it was hard to notice unless one was consciously trying to feel it.
He looked up at the newly restored wall in front of him.
It was still all white.
Unlike before, there is now a blood-red button positioned slightly above the ground.
A particularly eye-catching sticker was placed above the button, along with a bolded downward arrow.
"Press it."
It looks a bit like a game hint.
Fang He didn't hesitate much and pressed the button.
Several muffled rumbling sounds followed.
On each of the four walls, a door leading to the next space was opened.
*
Inside the empty room.
Xiao Cheng stabbed the monster's heart with a heavy blow, confirming that it was completely dead. He then used the tip of his knife to pick out the experience bead buried deep in the flesh and threw it to the swaying Nineteen beside him.
She was breathing slightly, straightened up, and casually wiped the bloodstains splattered on her face.
"Are you really sure you've found the way?" She frowned as she looked at Fang He, her tone slightly displeased.
"You can count for yourself how many elite monsters we've killed along the way. Nineteen is almost at the maximum level. It's one thing to lead you down the wrong path, but you haven't contributed a single bit to the monster-killing."
Xiao Cheng has now figured it out: the level of the experience orb is linked to the level of the monster. The higher the level of the monster, the purer the experience orb inside, and the more difficult it is to defeat.
Perhaps because of the cross-server nature of the game, she tried, but found that she couldn't level up using these experience orbs at all, so she had to give them all to Nineteen.
However, after knocking on the beads too much, it seems to be hard to digest. At least now, Shijiu is completely red-faced. It's not that he's conscious; it's more like he's sleepwalking.
However, a considerable power was indeed brewing within his body, and even Xiao Cheng could sense the oppressive force of this power.
Fang He didn't answer her question. Instead, he walked around the monster's corpse and pressed the red button that slowly appeared on the wall.
The three doors, located in three different directions, quietly opened.
Xiao Cheng looked at the gray expanse outside the door, and the faint phantom of a Rubik's Cube peeking out from behind the mist, blinking her eyes in bewilderment.
"Is this... clipping?" she asked hesitantly. "It shouldn't be that bad, right? There can't be such an outrageous and obvious bug, can there?"
As soon as he finished speaking, the phantom vanished instantly, as if what had just appeared was nothing more than an illusion.
The scene behind the door returned to normal.
Fang He seemed oblivious, pointing to the door on the left: "Go over there. There are only three doors, which means we're already on the edge of this Rubik's Cube. If we just keep going forward, we'll reach the next side."
"What just happened? Although it matches your guess about the Rubik's Cube... no matter how you look at it, it doesn't seem like a good omen, does it?"
Xiao Cheng reached out and grabbed the back of Nineteen's collar to prevent him from stumbling and falling.
“Leave him here; we don’t need him to follow us anymore,” Fang He suggested.
