Chapter 23 Mental Illness Ward (7)

Beds 3 and 4 carried in a stretcher. The body was on the stretcher, covered with a white sheet soaked in blood. The bones and muscles were crushed, and one hand hung limply at the edge of the stretcher.

Before they could even catch their breath, upon entering the room, they saw Xiao Cheng lying on the hospital bed, her life hanging in the balance. Their hearts skipped a beat, and they nearly collapsed on the spot.

Fortunately, reason stopped them.

Nurse Number 2 paused slightly, then turned and walked towards Xiao Cheng. His facial skin rippled slightly, making a hissing sound, as if he were smelling blood.

Then he stood by the hospital bed, slowly bending down, his tall body almost folding backward. Suddenly, a large hole tore open in the area where his mouth was, and a long, blood-red tongue emerged, licking the blood that had fallen onto the bed.

"Hehe, real blood." Nurse Number 2 retracted his tongue, the black hole disappeared, and his face returned to its original flatness. Then he straightened up again, walked back, picked up the body on the stretcher, and went into the treatment room.

He strapped the body to the device and then turned on the switch on the back of the chair.

After a pause of a few seconds, the machine emitted a clicking sound of gears turning inside, and then the whole machine started rumbling. Iron spikes about the length of a little finger extended from the surface of the machine and pierced the corpse without missing a single one.

As the machine ran, the iron spikes spun from slow to fast, and in an instant, blood and flesh flew everywhere. The entire room resembled a meat grinder, pulverizing the corpse on bed number 2.

Then the machine stopped, and Nurse Number 2 took a metal bottle from the cabinet, humming a cheerful tune, scraping off the metal spikes and bits of flesh from the surface of the machine, stuffing them into the bottle one handful at a time until it was full. He then tightened the cap and pressed another button.

The iron spikes retracted completely, and a deep, unfathomable hole slowly opened up in the seat area.

He stood next to the instrument, raised his hand, and threw the metal bottle down.

—Thump.

The metal bottle fell into the morgue, and the equipment returned to its original state, looking no different from an ordinary electric chair. The walls and floor of the inner room seemed to suddenly come alive, slowly wriggling and absorbing the remaining flesh and blood until the place was completely renewed.

The floral scent in the air seemed to intensify. Nurse Number 2 came out humming an off-key tune, pointed at Xiao Cheng, and said, "She's not dead yet. You two, take her back to her ward."

The stretcher that had just been used to transport the body was being reused. Xiao Cheng lay on it with a feeling of disgust, covered in sticky blood.

In a second-floor ward, Su Xin crouched in a corner, anxiously biting her fingers. They were almost there, but Xiao Cheng hadn't returned yet, and that spare key… it would definitely be found, and she'd be there too…

A loud bang.

Nurse No. 5 roughly kicked the door open, the door slammed heavily against the wall, and bounced back.

"Where is bed number 5?" he asked coldly, scanning the entire ward.

The painful memories resurfaced, and Su Xin's body trembled slightly uncontrollably: "She...she..."

The man in bed number 5 didn't want to hear her answer. He stepped aside to make way for her, waved his hand indifferently, and said to the faceless nurse behind him, "Search."

"Wait a minute." Nurse Number 2 walked over slowly and stopped them.

Nurse Number 5 turned her head and saw Xiao Cheng on the stretcher, asking in a puzzled tone, "Treatment?"

"Maybe it was Dr. B's doing, who knows?" Nurse Number 2 let out a strange laugh. "Don't forget, the hospital director will be back tomorrow."

Then Nurse No. 5 joined in with a strange laugh: "Hehe, Dean." He picked up Xiao Cheng from the stretcher with one hand and threw her heavily onto the bed.

Su Xin was shocked to see this scene and covered her face, screaming hysterically.

"Hehe, you're crazy." Nurse Number 2 hummed gleefully amidst the screams, "The director is coming back soon."

The nurses left one after another, and the search ended hastily. Beds 3 and 4 were identified as missing, and their respective assigned nurses walked downstairs dejectedly.

After dropping her off, the nurses in beds 3 and 4 sneaked back to the nurses' station, since this status was better than that of a mental patient.

The only one who got hurt was Xiao Cheng.

Her tongue was almost numb with pain and covered in blood. When she finally opened her eyes after all the nurses had left, she saw Su Xin squatting beside her, head down, crying silently.

“Hey, Li…” Xiao Cheng reached out and patted her shoulder, calling her name indistinctly.

Su Xin looked up with teary eyes and saw Xiao Cheng, covered in blood, sitting up and reaching out his arm to pinch her, looking just like a zombie. She screamed reflexively.

Xiao Cheng heard that her voice was almost hoarse, so she helplessly covered her mouth and then quickly wrote with her free hand: "Alive, don't make a sound."

Feeling her still-warm body temperature, Su Xin stared at her with wide eyes, still somewhat doubtful: "Are you alright?"

Xiao Cheng shook her head and briefly wrote down what had happened on a piece of paper: "I bit my tongue myself; only real blood could fool them. The key is useful, so there's no rush to return it; they haven't noticed yet."

Confirming that she was truly alright, Su Xin finally felt relieved: "They said the Dean will be back tomorrow. We've already lost one player. What should we do next?"

"Let nature take its course." Xiao Cheng shook her head. She wasn't more concerned about the dean, but rather about Fang He, who seemed to have truly vanished into thin air. Nurse Number 2's attitude was intriguing. Did it mean that Dr. B had confirmed his identity?

The night had been so harrowing that, the moment she relaxed, a profound sense of exhaustion washed over her. Xiao Cheng lay on her back in the hospital bed, staring unfocusedly at the ceiling.
