Devour Fang He.
These four words struck Xiao Cheng's mind, leaving her momentarily dazed and confused.
"Wait, you, but this..." Xiao Cheng stammered, finally managing to sort out her logic, "But won't you die? A broken arm can be restored after leaving the dungeon, but if you really die..."
"No," Fang He replied confidently. "I won't die. I've said it before, I'm the biggest bug in this dungeon."
A rooster crowed outside, and the monster in the corner suddenly became restless. Then it began to expand rapidly, its originally short body growing taller and stronger, almost touching the ceiling.
Then, its body split in two, then into four, like a copy-paste, pulling out a long, identical monster.
Fang He gripped Xiao Cheng's hand holding the knife tightly: "What are you hesitating about? Do you remember the first instance? Now it's your turn to trust me this time, Xiao Cheng."
Xiao Cheng was startled by the cold, and looked at him with conflicted eyes as he guided her arm downwards.
The cold tip of the knife pressed against his chest, slowly sinking in, but unsurprisingly, not a drop of blood flowed out.
Fang He's body vanished in an instant, the red rope on his wrist became slightly hot, and then shrank at a visible speed, finally turning into a red mark on his wrist.
Xiao Cheng suddenly felt a dull ache in her heart. She pursed her lips and turned to look at the monster clones that filled almost half the room.
An invisible force erupted from the red mark, rapidly flowing into her limbs and bones. She could feel her body strengthening, and her senses and physical strength were elevated to unprecedented heights.
Along with this came an overwhelming surge of violent emotions.
With a grim face, she tossed the dagger in her hand, gripped the hilt in reverse, and took the initiative to walk towards the monsters.
They shrank back somewhat warily, then suddenly realized what was happening and charged forward with a furious roar.
At the entrance of the shrine maiden's house, Xu Chu and Player 4 bumped into each other. Both of them looked a bit disheveled, and after seeing each other, they leaned against the wall as if deflated.
"You too?" Player #4 was still a little out of breath, glancing back in the direction they came from with lingering fear. "What the hell was that thing?"
"I don't know." Xu Chu was a little stronger than her, but just by looking at the deep claw mark on his neck, one could guess what kind of danger he had just experienced.
Player #4 tried to calm himself down, turned to look at the tightly closed door of the shrine maiden's house, and said with some doubt, "Isn't it... a bit too quiet here?"
"After all, it's a shrine maiden's house, so it might be safer. That monster didn't even..."
Before Xu Chu could finish speaking, the door was kicked open from the inside. It creaked and wobbled a few times before finally collapsing to the ground, kicking up a cloud of dust.
Xiao Cheng stepped out through the door, casually carrying a dagger. Pale blue liquid dripped from the tip of the blade, landing on the ground with a hissing, corrosive sound.
"...Xiao Cheng?" Number 4 looked at her with some surprise. Seeing the red marks on her wrist, she wisely refrained from asking about Fang He. "You also encountered that monster..."
Her words came to an abrupt end.
As the dust settled, it revealed the scattered monster corpses lying in the courtyard behind Xiao Cheng.
Xiao Cheng casually tore off a piece of his clothing, lowered his eyes, and slowly wiped his knife: "Monsters? What monsters? They're just a bunch of eye-searing NPCs."
The village was deathly silent at night. Even with the commotion Xiao Cheng caused, the witch in the room did not show herself.
“We can’t stay in the villagers’ homes any longer. Why don’t we go take a look at the ancestral hall?” Xu Chu suggested.
“I agree, I have no objection.” Xiao Cheng turned around and pulled down the two wooden plaques under the lantern, then took out the peach wood plaques she had just dug out from her pocket and tied them on neatly.
"This is... the wooden sign from during the day?" Number 4 looked puzzled. "Why change it? What's the purpose?"
"I don't know, but since the shrine maiden called it a miracle, it can't just be an ordinary rotten wooden plaque, right?" Xiao Cheng stepped back a little, carefully examining his masterpiece, and nodded in satisfaction.
Then she broke the two wooden signs that had been replaced and threw them on the ground.
In the distance, a distant roar came from the direction of the ancestral hall. Xiao Cheng raised an eyebrow and glanced in that direction: "Hey, he's getting anxious. Looks like it worked."
Number 4: "..." It doesn't seem very reliable.
The three of them didn't wait for No. 7 to arrive, and at this point, it was impossible for them to go back to look for him.
“If he dies, it’s a waste of time to go; if he doesn’t die, there’s no need to go.” Xu Chu had a complete set of logic. “Besides, to be fair, bringing him along would be a bit of a hindrance.”
"I thought you would go and save him on your own initiative." Xiao Cheng looked at him with some surprise. "After all, you seem like a very kind person."
“Kindness is not sainthood. Obsessing over saving people in a dungeon can really lead to your death,” Xu Chu said very clearly. He pointed to the scar on his left shoulder, “See this? In a dungeon, wounds caused by other players cannot be healed by the system.”
Xiao Cheng paused, "...What? What can't be cured?"
"Don't you know?" Xu Chu explained to her, "After leaving the instance, the system will heal the injuries caused by NPCs. Even if they have broken arms or legs, they can recover as long as they have a breath left. But injuries caused by players cannot be healed."
"That's why there's a rule like this: players are prohibited from killing each other in dungeons."
"I see." Xiao Cheng thought of Fang He, her anger turning into a forced laugh, and she clenched her fists and gritted her teeth as she spoke.
"What's wrong with you?" Number 4 noticed her dramatic emotional fluctuations and asked softly with some concern.
"Nothing much. Let's go, let's go check out the ancestral hall. Maybe we'll get lucky and bump into their true god."
Xiao Cheng put away the dagger she had just cleaned. The corner of her clothes was corroded beyond recognition, and holding it in her hand burned her fingers bright red.
At the entrance of the ancestral hall.
Nothing unusual happened; the statue of the true God stood quietly in the niche, and in the night, it even appeared somewhat compassionate.
Bloodstains remained on the ground, staining the soil a dark reddish-black, with scorch marks on it.
"There's nothing here... Are we supposed to wait until tomorrow to follow the storyline?" Number 4 turned around and looked around.
"It's hard to say, but if we have to wait until the ritual is over, the next two days will only get more dangerous." Xu Chu shook his head seriously, then turned and glanced at Xiao Cheng's actions, his eyes narrowing sharply. "Xiao Cheng, what are you doing?!"
Xiao Cheng looked at the statue he had kicked to the ground and spread his hands innocently: "This is a survival dungeon, why follow the storyline? Just kill the BOSS, right?"
"Besides... you all want to leave here as soon as possible, right?"
