The players faced off against each other. There weren't many people like Xiao Cheng and his group who knew each other. And as player number 47 said at the beginning, the rules this time did not prohibit killing each other.
This made the already limited trust between them even more precarious.
Su Xin, without much guile, excitedly ran up to Xiao Cheng and affectionately took her arm: "What a coincidence! We ran into you in the dungeon again!"
The surrounding players all heard her words and glanced over out of the corner of their eyes, wondering about the relationship between the two.
“Yeah, to run into each other twice in a completely random instance means we’re kind of destined to meet.” Xiao Cheng nodded in agreement, while giving a subtle warning glance to those with ill intentions.
"There are clearly other people you're more destined for," Su Xin whispered teasingly in her ear, "Were you pretending not to know her just now because you were afraid of being targeted by others?"
Xiao Cheng knew who she was talking about, and sighed helplessly, "Knowing that, why are you still coming here to me?"
"That's different. You guys are a powerful alliance, and I'm just a newbie clinging to a big shot," Su Xin said with a grin. "I'm just a wise bird choosing a good tree to perch on, and a smart person knows when to yield."
"You two seem to get along quite well," a young man with a scholarly air walked over and interjected softly.
Xiao Cheng raised her eyes and glanced at him indifferently. This person looked very knowledgeable and had a gentle temperament. At least the first impression he gave was not unpleasant.
"I apologize for my rudeness." He pushed up his thick glasses with one hand and met Xiao Cheng's scrutinizing gaze with composure. "I am number 1, or you can call me Qiao Liao if you prefer."
By revealing his real name in the instance, he has shown Xiao Cheng and the others the utmost sincerity.
"You're not just here to strike up a conversation, are you?" Xiao Cheng raised an eyebrow slightly.
“I firmly believe that if you can befriend a strong person, then don’t stand against them.” Qiao Liao pushed his glasses up again. “However, I was indeed presumptuous this time. I apologize for any offense I may have caused, and I will not bother you any longer.”
Xiao Cheng watched his retreating figure disappear into the crowd, seemingly lost in thought.
"He seems to be going blind," Su Xin said with a regretful tone.
"A blind woman who's survived so many dungeons." Xiao Cheng chuckled, patting her shoulder. "Go back to your cubicle and get some rest. There's probably going to be a tough battle tonight."
As it turned out, Xiao Cheng's guess was correct, and even a little conservative.
A sharp, piercing alarm suddenly went off, and all the players were automatically ejected from their cubicles, falling to the ground one after another like dumplings being dropped into a pot.
The four walls slowly became transparent, and the steel door was gradually weakened until it was like a thin film that could be easily pierced.
Outside the safe house, a crimson full moon hung high in the sky, its eerie blood-red light illuminating the mountains of corpses and seas of blood on the ground. All the players who failed to enter the safe house had perished outside, their limbs and pieces of flesh scattered everywhere.
From afar, a fierce roar could be faintly heard. Soon, the roar grew louder and clearer as it approached, assaulting everyone's eardrums.
Something is coming.
The numbers on the display suddenly jumped, changing to two numbers, one red and one white. The red number remained one hundred, while the white number was one thousand. The cold, electronic female voice then blared again: "Warning! Warning! Prey loaded! Safe house charging countdown, ten seconds, nine seconds..."
The surrounding temperature began to rise rapidly, even generating heat waves. The scorching air almost completely stopped flowing, and the scene before everyone's eyes became distorted due to the high temperature.
"Get out! The safe house is driving us out!" someone shouted.
The thin, membrane-like door was quickly torn open, and the sweating players poured out. The instant the countdown ended, the empty safe house silently exploded into dust, with a hazy cloud of debris scattering across the sky like fireworks at an opening ceremony.
All that's left is that big screen, hanging there in mid-air.
"Damn it, my blanket is still inside!" Xiao Cheng turned her head sharply, briefly mourning the blanket that had been caught up in this unfortunate situation.
"A blanket is just an external thing," Fang He said, patting her reassuringly.
The incident happened suddenly, and the players were in a state of chaos, all cautiously observing their surroundings. No one noticed the two of them.
Su Xin and Xu Chu were swept far away by the crowd. As they looked at the distant horizon, their expressions turned quite grim.
The first pale zombie poked its head out, its limbs stiff but swift as it lunged towards them. Immediately following was a vast, dark mass, treading on the scattered limbs and remains, the stench of decay carrying far on the wind.
"What the hell? Is this what they call a hunt?!" One of the players became extremely agitated and turned to run in another direction, but after only a few steps, he stopped again, his face ashen.
They were completely trapped in a zombie horde.
"One hundred to one thousand, the difference doesn't seem that huge?" Xiao Cheng muttered in a low voice.
However, before he could finish speaking, a series of creaking and groaning sounds echoed around him. The dismembered corpses on the ground struggled to stick together, and fine fleshy buds grew from the severed limbs, connecting with each other to form a very abstract and twisted human body.
They staggered to their feet, emitting low growls as if they had phlegm stuck in their throats.
A glue monster that hadn't managed to snatch the head lay on the ground, stretching its bloody hand upwards, and just managed to grab Xiao Cheng's trouser leg.
"Holy crap, what is this?!" Xiao Cheng didn't notice his footing and was startled by the sticky sensation. He reflexively stomped on it, and with a soft crack, the bloody hand exploded, splattering a mixture of foul-smelling flesh and blood everywhere.
