Xiao Cheng and Fang He were the last to arrive, and they waited until the mute girl slowly got up and went back to her room before silently walking downstairs.
Just as she reached the top of the stairs, Xiao Cheng suddenly stopped in her tracks: "I haven't had breakfast yet."
Fang He paused for a moment, then said, "I thought you were feeling a little unwell right now."
"A little, but not much," Xiao Cheng described her emotions very honestly. "What, am I only slightly sad?"
Fang He decisively changed the subject, letting out a soft sigh: "So, do you still have any noodles?"
"There should be some, I just didn't notice." Xiao Cheng thought about it carefully. "Perhaps you could try something new, how about an egg pancake?"
Fang He thought about it carefully: "I can learn it, but I may not be able to learn it well."
But in the end they still chose noodles, since there were no eggs available.
"What a pity," Xiao Cheng remarked with feigned seriousness, "but the noodles were pretty good too."
"So, what do you want to say by leaving me here alone?" Fang He finished eating first and put down his chopsticks.
Xiao Cheng finished the rest of the noodles in a few bites, then slowly pulled out a wet wipe to wipe the remaining soup from her lips, and then said out of the blue, "He's laughing."
"Number five?" Fang He quickly realized.
“Being cut in half at the waist is a very painful way to die, but he was smiling.” Xiao Cheng continued, “He willingly died in place of the mute girl.”
Perhaps he was betrayed by the mute girl, or perhaps he made the decision before her. Apart from the deceased Number Five and the mute girl who could not speak, no one knows what really happened back then.
“But it’s a fairy tale after all.” Xiao Cheng rested his chin on his hand. “The essence of a fairy tale is love and peace, as you said yourself.”
"So that's a tragic love story," Fang He said noncommittally. "So we just played the villains for a bit?"
Xiao Cheng couldn't help but laugh out loud, and the more she laughed, the more she couldn't stop, until finally she even laughed until two tears streamed down her face.
"Is she that bad?" She wiped her slightly damp eyes. "She's not kind, good, or beautiful at all."
But no matter what happens, it doesn't matter to them anymore; the final result is the same anyway.
"Now that we've covered the digressions, let's get down to business. Fang He, have you decided where you want to find the clown?"
The Joker said he would appear, but he certainly wouldn't be so kind as to show up in front of them directly.
After all, even last time, he only sent over a phantom image.
"Is it hard to think of? Of course, it should end where it started." Fang He stood up. "So... do you still remember the reception room from the very beginning?"
When they went down, the other four had already searched almost the entire first floor, but still found nothing.
This was not unexpected for them. After all, when they were busy fighting monsters and leveling up, who would have the leisure to think about going back to the starting village?
"Are you sure?" Number One turned his head suspiciously to look at the long-forgotten, tightly closed wooden door.
"I'm not sure, but let's give it a try. It shouldn't hurt too much," Xiao Cheng said encouragingly.
Of course, I'll give it a try.
Apart from the mute girl, the six players, carrying seven glittering gold reward coins, pushed open the inconspicuous wooden door again.
The dwarf's phantom stood directly beneath the light sphere, at the center of the interplay of colored lights, his hands behind his back, seemingly unsurprised by their arrival.
"Hello, my lovely guests!" He grinned with a strange smile. "I didn't expect you to collect all the reward coins so quickly!"
"Congratulations! You've successfully won over the host! Of course, Her Highness the Princess is also very pleased with you! As a reward, I will certainly not hesitate to give you a generous gift!"
"Leave the instance..."
"Of course that's impossible!" He threw his head back and let out a carefree, mocking laugh. "Congratulations, players, you've collected all seven gold coins. You're now qualified to begin my meticulously designed upgraded trial!"
"Are you a wolf, a sheep, or a traitor in sheep's clothing? I can't wait to see how you all perform!"
"As for the rules, although I'd prefer to see you do whatever you want, since the princess said there should be rules, then let's reluctantly arrange one! But where is it... Oh well, this is part of the trial after all!"
"So, until only one person remains... please continue the trial without holding back, okay?"
Thunderous applause erupted over the loudspeaker, and colorful lights flickered and danced, shining on everyone's ever-changing faces.
The dwarf snapped his fingers, and an invisible force pushed the six people out. Then the wooden door slammed shut in front of them and gradually merged into the wall without leaving any trace.
Only his voice remained, repeating endlessly throughout the hall.
Only one can pass the trial! Only one is qualified to stand before the princess! Only one is a truly invited guest!
The six players looked at each other.
A deathly silence.
The real trial is only just beginning.
The dwarf did not elaborate on the rules of the final trial, but he had undoubtedly made it clear what would be the conditions for it all to end.
Only one person can survive.
Everyone had different expressions until Number One spoke first, breaking the silence: "Rule number one, killing each other is strictly prohibited."
"The way Number Six died shouldn't be considered fratricide, right?" Number Three was unusually calm at this moment, directly pointing out the loophole in the rules.
“Relax, it’s the third day, and we still have seven people left. Our top priority is to find the official trial rules. Even if only one can survive, it can’t be a matter of us killing indiscriminately,” Xiao Cheng said calmly.
