The second throwing knife grazed Fang He's right wrist and landed firmly on the turntable.
Another gasp came from the audience.
Xiao Cheng stared at the bloodstains on the roulette wheel, unconsciously clenching her fists. The edges of the two chips dug into her palms, leaving deep marks.
“That’s wonderful, isn’t it?” The man sitting to her right spoke again. “You and your companion must be new guests here? Don’t worry too much. These two monkeys are indeed a bit mischievous, but at most they’re just playing harmless little jokes.”
Xiao Cheng tilted her head and glanced at him indifferently.
"Please don't speak," she said in a cold tone. "Please respect every program, this distinguished guest."
On the stage, two monkeys hopped and skipped happily to the rhythm of the music.
"Is it still okay? Can we continue?" The one who hadn't thrown the knife sidled up to Fang He and asked loudly, "There are still twelve left! If you can get past twelve more, you can get a full three hundred gold coins!"
"So the choice was originally in my hands?" Fang He asked in a calm tone.
"Keep going! Keep going!"
The cheers from the audience grew louder and louder, and chips of various colors were thrown onto the stage, rolling all over the floor.
"In that case... there's nothing more to say." The monkey chuckled strangely, then excitedly bent down to pick up a large gold chip from the ground and stuffed it into his dress pocket.
The third throwing knife was poised to strike, its tip aimed directly at Fang He's brow.
Just then, the music stopped abruptly, and a waiter rushed onto the stage, grabbing one monkey with each hand to stop their movements.
"Abort! Abort! The performance is aborted!"
He shouted loudly, waving his arms forcefully amidst the gasps of the audience.
"What are you doing?" The monkey who threw the knife ripped off the blindfold, his eyes flashing menacingly. He grinned menacingly, revealing two sharp fangs.
"They're heretics. We received word from the first floor that two heretics have broken in." The waiter scanned the audience. "They've stolen two red chips worth a hundred each!"
An uproar immediately erupted.
"Two hundred dollars! What a terrible heresy!"
"They must be found! The second floor cannot tolerate such heretics!"
"Find them!"
The two monkeys exchanged a glance, then put the throwing knife back on the rack, turned to face the audience, and gestured for them to be quiet.
"Since this involves stakes, our performance has to be paused. This was an accident, and we will provide compensation to everyone present in accordance with regulations. However, before that, please cooperate with the waiter to identify the two heretics who are posing as VIPs."
As soon as the words were spoken, the elevator doors quietly opened, and more than ten waiters filed out, walking towards each row of audience seats, starting from the first seat, to check the chips in each person's hand.
Xiao Cheng arrived quickly.
The waiter looked down at her, extended his white-gloved hand, and said in a businesslike tone, "It's your turn, distinguished guest."
Xiao Cheng glanced at the stage out of the corner of her eye, then calmly raised her arm and placed the two red chips she was holding into his palm.
"Two coins, totaling two hundred." The waiter examined them carefully, his brow furrowing slightly. "Distinguished guest, I regret to inform you that this is a very risky amount."
“Although I don’t want to do this, if you can’t offer more leverage… I will take you for further vetting. Trust me, you won’t want to know what’s coming next.”
“Is there something wrong with that? Those two heretics cheated out of two hundred chips, but I have all of them by myself.”
Xiao Cheng wanted to challenge his intelligence again. After all, the previous two lobster-men were obviously easy to fool. Since they were all the same species, there was no reason why this one should be exceptionally smart.
But as it turns out, even within the same species, there is diversity.
The waiter's face showed an expression that said, "Are you kidding me?"
“My esteemed guest, I have always respected you greatly. Please do not make such meaningless jokes with me.”
He quickly put on a stern face and stubbornly opened his palm: "Let's not waste any more time. Do you have any other bargaining chips?"
Of course, there are no chips.
Xiao Cheng looked at the aggressive waiter, her mind racing, but she couldn't think of any other way.
Just as she was about to take action, the man to her right suddenly spoke up, "Excuse me, may I interrupt?"
He calmly handed over a brand-new gold chip: "Distinguished guest, did you drop this on the ground?"
Xiao Cheng stared at the bright number one thousand on the chip, her pupils trembling slightly. Despite being filled with astonishment and confusion, she still took the chip without hesitation.
"It's mine," she replied calmly, despite the waiter's scrutinizing gaze.
The waiter's gaze darted back and forth between the two of them, and a genuine smile suddenly appeared on his face, completely shattering his previous indifference. He respectfully handed back the two hundred chips to Xiao Cheng.
"There are no further problems, esteemed guest. I will personally offer an additional apology for my earlier offense, and I hope you will not take it to heart."
"There's no need for an apology, is there? It's such a trivial matter that no one would care, especially not a distinguished guest who holds such valuable assets..."
The man to Xiao Cheng's right slowly interjected, emphasizing the words "distinguished guest" as if to stress it out.
“Yes, there’s no need for an apology.” Xiao Cheng nodded in agreement.
