Chapter 19 Mental Illness Ward (3)

The needle tip stopped just as it pierced the skin.

Nurse Number 5 blocked his wrist and warned in a grim tone, "These are my needles."

The woman in red stopped her madness at the right time, and obediently returned to the hospital bed, lay down straight, covered herself with the blanket from head to toe, and soon began to snore softly.

The two nurses were clearly in a bad mood; they slammed the door shut and left the ward one after the other.

The snoring grew fainter and fainter.

The woman in red poked her head out from under the covers, gestured to Xiao Cheng, smiled mischievously, and mouthed silently, "Hello player, my name is Su Xin."

Su Xin arrived earlier than them and had already spent two days in the instance. At the beginning, she almost exposed her identity because she didn't notice the bug and suffered quite a bit.

She pulled out a pen and paper from under the sheet and wrote, stroke by stroke: "Don't reveal that you're a normal person, don't take medicine, don't get injections."

Xiao Cheng took the pill out of her sleeve: "Do you know what this is?"

Su Xin shook her head somewhat awkwardly. She hadn't even left her hospital room in the past two days, and she had been secretly vomiting up her medicine, so she had no chance to hide it and check it carefully.

Xiao Cheng nodded solemnly, tiptoed to the door, and stood on tiptoe to look out the window. Within her limited field of vision, the corridor was completely silent; there wasn't a soul in sight.

After confirming that the nurses wouldn't be returning anytime soon, she went back to the bedside, picked up the pill, about half the size of a finger joint, and rubbed its surface with her fingertip.

The white powdered sugar was on her hand, and the whole pill gave off a strange, sweet fragrance.

"It seems to be hollow," Xiao Cheng mouthed, then, under Su Xin's slightly uneasy gaze, she crushed the pill with her fingers.

The white shell shattered in my palm, and beneath the sugar-coated fragments was a half-dead little beetle, its entire body glossy black, curled up motionless, with only its two antennae twitching slightly.

"Pervert, really perverted," Xiao Cheng sighed inwardly, without hesitation throwing the insect on the ground and stomping it to pieces.

She gathered up the insect carcasses and sugar coating and threw them under the cabinet, checking several times to make sure she wouldn't give herself away. Then, at Su Xin's prompting, she lay down on the bed.

Both of them kept their eyes closed, pretending to be asleep, until six o'clock in the afternoon when two nurses forcefully pushed open the ward door and shouted in loud, booming voices, "Wake up! Time to eat!"

To Xiao Cheng's surprise, the food here was quite good, with three dishes and a soup, and even braised pork. Before picking up her chopsticks, she glanced at Su Xin and saw that she was eating very calmly, so she guessed that there shouldn't be any major problems with the meal.

The two nurses remained silent until they finished eating, and then took away the bowls and chopsticks.

"Bed number 5, remember the doctor will be making rounds at eight o'clock tomorrow morning," Nurse No. 5 said in a perfunctory tone. "Behave yourself; you don't want to go through treatment."

After the nurse left, because of the listening device, Xiao Cheng and Su Xin consciously moved quietly, communicating entirely through lip movements, hand gestures, and small notes.

"Do you know the specifics of the ward rounds and treatments?" Xiao Cheng asked.

Su Xin shook her head apologetically: "No, my nurse didn't mention any of that. I probably can't help you with anything; this is my first copy."

All she knows now is that pretending to be crazy will ensure her safety to some extent.

"It's alright. If there are any leads later, we can share the information," Xiao Cheng reassured her.

The corridor lights stayed on all night, but the two nurses never came again. Xiao Cheng slept soundly through the night until she was awakened by a loud knocking on the door.

"Ward rounds! Ward rounds!" Nurse No. 5 and Nurse No. 6 shouted in unison. Then the door was pushed open, and a group of burly male nurses, acting like bodyguards, stood guard outside the door and escorted the doctor in.

Xiao Cheng lay quietly on the bed, secretly glancing at the person who came in. As expected, it was Fang He.

He had his hands in his pockets, still wearing a mask and glasses, completely obscuring his face. This time, his ID card was visible outside his white coat; there was no photo on the card, only two lines of text.

An unorthodox mental hospital.

Dr. B.

Xiao Cheng: "..." Good grief.

Let's not even get into the hospital's name. She thought the nurse on the 5th had been cursing at him yesterday, but it turns out his real name really is Doctor B! Damn it!

Unlike Xiao Cheng's composure and even amusement, Su Xin was genuinely frightened. She got out of bed and immediately crouched down in a corner.

"Don't look at me, don't look at me, don't look at me... Hehe, I'm about to melt."

"What's the situation with bed number 6?" Fang He asked in an unfriendly tone, while glancing at Xiao Cheng with an inquiring look behind the nurse's back.

Xiao Cheng huddled under the covers and nodded slightly. Fang He understood, and before Nurse No. 6 could explain anything, he ordered, "Forget it, she's a lunatic, no need to waste time on her. This room is fine, let's go, next one."

As the footsteps faded into the distance, Xiao Cheng threw off the covers and sat up, holding a stack of small notes in her hand, all of which she and Su Xin had written the night before.

Su Xin smoothed her hair, stood up, let go of the half-pencil in her hand, and tiptoed back to the bedside.

"Was that doctor just now also?" she asked Xiao Cheng with a questioning look.

Xiao Cheng nodded in confirmation of her guess: "Has no doctor come to the ward before?"

"No, it's always the nurses. If I don't pretend to have an attack, they'll hit me. It's terrifying." Su Xin rolled up her hospital gown sleeve to show her the bruises on her arm.

She recalled the events of the previous two days, trying to appear calm, but her slightly trembling hands betrayed her true emotions.

Xiao Cheng sighed softly and patted her shoulder: "Relax, it's just a game instance, we'll get out of here alive."

At nine o'clock, after the nurses finished their rounds with Fang He, they began patrolling the corridor. Xiao Cheng had planned to sneak out and peek through the window in the door, but her gaze met that of a nurse.

"What are you doing!" the nurse yelled irritably, raising her fist and slamming it against the door with a loud bang.

Xiao Cheng knew something was wrong and quickly ducked down close to the door, hiding right in the nurse's blind spot.

"What's wrong?" Another nurse came over when she heard the noise.

"It's bed number 5 again." The first nurse scoffed. "A lunatic is a lunatic."

Xiao Cheng hid for a long time until his legs went numb. Thinking that he hadn't heard any noise for a while, he secretly peeked out, only to be caught red-handed again.

Xiao Cheng: "..." Are the two older brothers keeping their eagles warm?

The two nurses stood guard like door gods, staring intently at the ventilation window without moving. If they had facial features, Xiao Cheng guessed their expressions would be a mix of mockery, sarcasm, and nonchalance.

Su Xin crouched in the corner, not daring to make a sound. She was almost in tears watching this scene. She quietly gestured to Xiao Cheng, telling her to go back to bed and not to confront the nurse.

Xiao Cheng certainly wouldn't joke about herself. She gave the two nurses a simple and harmless smile, then obediently turned around and lay back on the bed, looking perfectly straight.
