Chapter 152 Dark Fairy Tale (23)

The game seems to have reached a stalemate.

"So we can't do anything now? Are we just going to wait to die tomorrow?" Number One said coldly.

"Maybe we should look at it from a different angle," Xiao Cheng suddenly had a flash of inspiration. "If there are gold coins and silver coins, there should naturally be an exchange rate. So, why not take out all the game coins I have and give it a try?"

The others looked at her with skepticism.

Fang He was the first to respond. He took out a gold coin and two silver coins from his pocket and, under the ambiguous gazes of the others, said nonchalantly, "We'll try anything, even if it's a dead end. Besides, what she said makes a lot of sense."

Xiao Cheng maintained his smile, spread his hands to the others, revealing the two gold coins in his hands.

Number One and Number Two reaped more than they had imagined; in addition to a gold coin, they also had a total of six silver coins.

Then came the two brothers' gold coin and two silver coins, as well as the gold coin handed over by the mute girl.

Xiao Cheng separated the gold and silver coins into two piles: "Hopefully the exchange rate is one to ten."

Then she picked up the silver coins one by one: "Excuse me, everyone, could you please help me find the coin slot on the game machine?"

Aside from Fang He, the others hadn't had much hope for Xiao Cheng's guess until they actually found a very inconspicuous coin slot at the bottom of the game machine, close to the ground.

It's just the right size to fit a silver game coin inside.

"Ah, a good omen." Xiao Cheng raised an eyebrow, and after getting everyone's permission, squatted down and stuffed the silver game coins in one by one.

Up to the tenth one.

With a click, a crisp sound came from inside the game console, and then the game started automatically. The blue pixelated figure hopped and skipped along, smashing through everything in its path, and quickly reached the finish line.

As the cheerful background music of victory played, a gleaming golden reward coin rolled to Xiao Cheng's feet.

"Looks like I'm in luck." She smiled as she picked up the gold coins.

"What's next?" Number Three stared eagerly at the seven golden game coins. "According to the clown, can we end the trial and leave the game?"

"Wake up! The game's theme is a dark fairy tale, not a game trial, okay? Besides, when did the clown ever say that you can leave here once you collect seven gold coins? You don't actually think this is Dragon Ball, do you?" Xiao Cheng sighed softly.

The atmosphere among the group became tense again.

Number Two, clutching the medicine bottle he had picked up, spoke first at the prompting of Number One, the elite woman: "Since we can only wait until tomorrow... let's go upstairs and rest first."

The others didn't intend to stay in the lobby either, and followed them up to the second floor.

Xiao Cheng and Fang He intentionally lagged behind.

"To be honest, I'm quite curious about what kind of gift they received," Xiao Cheng said in a low voice. "But even the mute girl and the others didn't give us a hint. Could it be related to saving their lives?"

"What, you want it?" Fang He raised an eyebrow slightly and asked indifferently.

"It's not that I want it," Xiao Cheng shook her head honestly. "I'm just curious. We were all dragged into the game, so why are you the only one who didn't get any benefits?"

Fang He paused for a moment, then replied seriously, "Perhaps it's because I'm the man chosen by God, and my main virtue is selflessness."

Xiao Cheng: "..."

He heard it.

This counterfeit game console isn't even soundproof.

Without the big-headed girl's interference, Xiao Cheng slept soundly all night. No other monsters appeared, seemingly proving that as long as they could complete the game, they were all safe.

It wasn't until she stepped out of the room that she realized something seemed a little off.

The door to the room where the mute girl and number five were sitting was open, and Fang He and the other four players were blocking the doorway, their expressions unreadable.

"What's wrong?" Xiao Cheng walked over and poked Fang He's arm.

Fang He turned to look at her, but did not answer. Instead, he slightly turned his body to make room for her.

At his prompting, Xiao Cheng tiptoed and looked over Fang He's shoulder into the room.

Number Five is dead.

The body lay in the very center of the bed, half of its body below the waist mysteriously vanished, and the cross-section wasn't even covered in blood, but rather a ridiculous black and white mosaic.

What's even more bizarre is the serene smile on his face, his lips so red they look like they're dripping blood.

"Where is the mute girl?" Xiao Cheng asked again.

“In the kitchen,” Fang He replied.

Xiao Cheng turned her head towards the kitchen in surprise, but unfortunately, the mute girl was probably in a blind spot and couldn't see her at all.

What is she doing in the kitchen?

"Let's eat breakfast," Fang He told him truthfully.

Xiao Cheng was slightly speechless: "She actually has such leisure and refined tastes?"

"What are you all doing blocking the doorway?" Number One, probably feeling disturbed by their conversation, frowned and scolded in a low voice.

"How could this be? We clearly...we clearly took all seven gold coins yesterday." Number Four's face was slightly pale, and he shivered involuntarily, as if he had thought of something terrible. He gripped Number Three's arm tightly. "Brother, could it be..."

"Don't overthink it." Number Three shook his head to stop him from saying anything more, and then took the initiative to say, "Let's go downstairs and take a look. Maybe his death is related to the game console."

“Then let’s go to the kitchen and check on Number Six,” Number Two said immediately, then glanced nervously at Number One. Seeing that she didn’t show any obvious objection, she breathed a slight sigh of relief.

"In that case, we'll have to take care of examining the body." Xiao Cheng shrugged.
