Chapter 5 A Little Lucky Star Arrives

Old Mrs. Shen's vague feeling grew stronger; a little lucky star had arrived in her Shen family!

Old Mrs. Shen looked at the two fish again.

In these famine years, meat is incredibly precious, so everyone rushes to the river to catch fish or to the mountains behind the village to hunt. But with so many people from several villages, the big fish in the river have long been caught, leaving only a few small fry, and there's hardly anything left to hunt in the mountains.

Old Mrs. Shen already knew the answer in her heart, but she still asked, "Where did the fish come from?"

Liu paused, then recounted everything she had seen, adding her astonishing conjecture: "This fish actually helped the child come up, and even jumped onto the ground and wouldn't leave, waiting for me to catch it. It's really strange."

When Old Mrs. Shen heard this, it was exactly the answer she expected. Her suspicions grew even stronger. Her Shen family was about to become rich!

Two such fat fish suddenly appeared in the river, which had long been devoid of fish. If they had always been there, with the village children playing by the river every day and some occasionally going to try their luck, they should have been caught long ago.

Mrs. Liu said the fish looked like it was pushing a child who had fallen into the water to safety. If Mrs. Liu was mistaken, then why did the fish jump ashore on its own instead of jumping back into the water?

It was as if they were specifically arrested by the Liu family.

The strangest thing is that the child didn't cry earlier or later, but started crying just as Liu was about to go to the kitchen, and even clamored for fish.

Liu realized something was wrong. Come to think of it, if the little baby hadn't suddenly cried and asked for fish, she would have rushed over to get a basin right away!

Liu spoke weakly, "Mother..."

Old Mrs. Shen patted Liu's shoulder with a beaming smile: "Eldest daughter, the good days for our Shen family are coming!"

Inside the room, Yang found some of Shen Jialuo's childhood clothes and asked her softly if she liked the color.

The baby let out a mumbled but overjoyed "I like it!" which instantly brought a smile to Yang's face.

Shen Lili blinked and obediently let Yang Shi dress her. She leaned limply on Yang Shi's shoulder, but her eyes were looking through the window towards the kitchen.

That auntie should be alright by now, right?

Shen Lili felt Yang's gentle hands softly pull on her pants, her little feet dangling gently, expressing her good mood.

Looking at the soft, cuddly baby, Madam Yang felt an overwhelming tenderness in her heart. This adorable little bundle of joy was about to become her daughter!

Yang was deeply moved and found it increasingly difficult to contain her excitement. She couldn't help but tentatively ask the little baby, "Does Lili like Auntie?"

The little baby nodded vigorously: "Porridge!"

Yang's eyes lit up: "Really?"

Shen Lili nodded vigorously, looking sincerely into Yang's eyes. This aunt had a faint scent of grass on her and was very gentle. Lili liked her!

"Zundu! Pear porridge puree!" the little baby said with difficulty, managing to utter a long sentence.

Yang immediately smiled and hugged Shen Lili, showering her with kisses. Her resolve gradually solidified.

At worst, she'll just eat a few less bites and take Pear's food out of her own mouth!

"Would Lili like to be her aunt's daughter?"

Looking at the affection and tenderness in Yang's eyes, Shen Lili nodded emphatically: "Dear Yang~"

Madam Yang was stunned, and tears instantly welled up in her eyes. She hugged Shen Lili tightly, saying, "Hey! Mother's here. Don't worry, Lili, from now on you're my own daughter. I'll definitely give you a warm home!"

Yang and Shen Laosan had always wanted a daughter, but after the birth of Shen Jialuo, they hadn't had any more children. And here comes their sweet and adorable little girl!

As Shen Lili felt the woman's gentleness and firmness, her heart softened beyond belief.

She wanted to stay and help this family improve their lives! Lili wanted everyone to have enough to eat, never go hungry again, and have meat to eat every day!

Shen Lili smiled happily in Yang's arms.

Pear is happy, and good luck will come!

As Granny Shen and Madam Liu came out of the kitchen, they suddenly felt a dripping sound in their ears and a cool sensation on their noses. Granny Shen touched it and found it was water droplets!

Looking up, Liu saw countless silver needles floating in the air—what else could it be but spring rain!

"Mom, it's raining! It's raining!"

In recent years, Nanlin County has suffered severe drought, with rain only arriving sporadically. Last year, there wasn't a single drop of rain, and even in early spring this year, after the rice had been planted, the heavens still haven't provided any rain. This is threatening to cut off the farmers' livelihood!

But now, it's raining—the rain people have been longing for!

Good rain knows its season; it falls when spring arrives.

Spring rain is crucial for crops!

The rain intensified, changing from a fine drizzle to larger raindrops that pattered against the roof with a "pitter-patter" sound.

Outside the Shen family's house, villagers cheered one after another. The long-awaited rain had finally arrived, and some were even moved to tears, weeping for this belated spring rain.

The rain has come, which means their crops this year will be at least better than last year—there's hope! Compared to the pure joy of others, Old Mrs. Shen and Mrs. Liu in the courtyard had a different kind of emotion.

The mother-in-law and daughter-in-law exchanged a glance, both seeing the same emotion in each other's eyes.

Old Mrs. Shen remembered her second daughter-in-law saying the child looked unfamiliar, even Chen Shi didn't recognize him, so he probably wasn't from their area. And just as the child arrived in Xinghua Village, the spring rain that everyone had been eagerly anticipating began to fall!

Little Pear, inside the house, looked at the drizzling rain outside the window, smiled slightly, concealing her accomplishments and fame.

This is the power of fate.

Suddenly, a heavy rain began to fall. The children who had been playing wildly in the village all ran back home, including the five Shen family boys who had been playing outside.

Old Mrs. Shen and Liu Shi then realized that the men of the Shen family were still working in the fields!

Five boys of varying heights all covered their heads with their hands and hurriedly ran downstairs, their clothes half-soaked.

Liu told them to hurry back inside and change their wet clothes, then she and Granny Shen quickly went to the small shed where miscellaneous items were stored and retrieved four straw hats.

The rain was getting heavier, and Madam Yang quickly helped Shen Lili put on her clothes, instructing her, "Lili, stay here and be good, Mother will be back soon, okay?"

Shen Lili nodded obediently: "Lili is a good girl!"

Overwhelmed by the cute and well-behaved little baby, Madam Yang couldn't resist giving Shen Lili a kiss on the cheek before leaving the house.

Shen Lili watched Yang Shi leave the house.

This mother is so gentle, Lili really likes her!

Hearing the increasingly loud rain, Yang, who was inside the house, came out and saw the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law wearing straw hats, preparing to deliver straw hats to the men in the family. She asked, "Sister-in-law, where are our clothes?"
