Shen Lili lowered her head, looking at her pink outfit, specially chosen by Madam Yang. Who knew this little boy used to love wearing pink when he was little?
Shen Lili couldn't help but laugh out loud.
Shen Lili's sweet smile silently brought joy to the three little boys, creating a warm and beautiful atmosphere.
"Oh dear, this rain is really heavy!"
"Great! It's been so long since it rained; if it doesn't rain soon, the farmers will starve!"
A rustling sound came from the courtyard, followed by the voices of several men.
The boys immediately guessed that it was the men from the Shen family who had gone to the fields returning, and they all ran out.
Under the eaves, Liu and Granny Shen were putting away the straw hats they had taken off the men. The men had been soaked by the rain and hurriedly put away their tools before going into the main room to change their clothes.
Old Shen was carrying two pheasants. They had appeared out of nowhere while they were working in the fields before the rain. The pheasants were flapping their wings and crashing into the wooden stakes like idiots.
Two pheasants crashed into each other and died. The Shen family hadn't eaten meat in a long time, and they thought they had gotten a great deal by chance. They took the pheasants home to improve their meals.
When Old Lady Shen went to pick up the person, Old Master Shen smugly gloated for a while, but Old Lady Shen and Liu both had an "I knew it" expression on their faces.
Several men were dripping water all over the main room when they bumped into three boys who came out of the third house.
When the men first saw the little girl in Shen Jiawen's arms, they thought she was one of the children playing together outside, and in their haste to take her home because of the sudden rain.
Shen Lao Er muttered, "You brat, you're playing with such a small kid? Aren't you afraid of dropping him while you're running around like that!"
The others didn't pay much attention; the village children played together every day. They were only stunned when they saw the pretty little girl in the pink dress.
"The little girl is really pretty," Old Shen complimented. "I just didn't recognize her at first glance. I don't remember any child in the village who has grown up to be so beautiful."
Shen Lili has fair skin, and after being praised like that, a few blushes appeared on her face. She shyly snuggled into Shen Jiawen's arms.
Shen Lili was already beautiful and cute, with almond-shaped eyes that seemed to speak volumes. Her shy little face amused the men, and even the usually serious Old Man Shen took a few extra glances at her.
Shen Laosan also took a closer look at Shen Lili. He didn't remember ever seeing such an outstanding little girl before, so he pulled his son over and asked, "Jialuo, whose sister is this? You guys don't usually take her to any dangerous places, do you?"
Shen Jialu waved his hand: "Dad, this little sister appeared in our family out of nowhere!"
He turned his head and saw Shen Lili appear on his parents' bed. She really did appear out of thin air!
"ah?"
Shen Jialuo's abrupt statement left the men bewildered. It was Old Mrs. Shen, who had just put her things down and come in, who glanced at them and said to her grandsons, "Jiawen, your aunt has made ginger soup in the kitchen. Take your brothers and have a bowl."
After saying that, he added, "Take your younger sister along for a bowl too."
Shen Jiawen quickly agreed and took her two younger brothers, carrying Shen Lili, to the kitchen.
Old Man Shen and Old Woman Shen had lived together their whole lives, so how could they not see that Old Woman Shen was deliberately sending the younger ones away?
"Old woman, what's wrong? What happened?"
Old Mrs. Shen pulled her sons aside and told them everything that had happened that day.
The four men listened, each with a different expression.
Old Shen remained silent, and his sons also didn't say a word, their faces filled with lingering fear.
Old Man Shen looked indignant. The usually mild-mannered man now cursed, "There really are people who are heartless enough to abandon their children!"
The Shen family wasn't poor, but the whole family was united; as long as they were together, there was hope for the future. Even if things really came to that, the Shen family wouldn't do something as heinous as throwing their child into the river to drown!
The Shen family looked down on the act of abandoning a child, but what caught their attention even more were the things that Old Mrs. Shen said later.
The eldest son asked, "Mother, could these things... just be a coincidence?"
Old Mrs. Shen narrowed her eyes and said, "Boss, Lili saved your wife."
Shen the eldest quickly stated his position: "Mother, of course I know, it's just that this is such a coincidence..."
"Grandpa, Grandma, Dad, Second Uncle, Third Uncle, come and have some ginger soup!"
The conversation inside the room temporarily ended, and Shen Jiahao walked in carrying a small pot of ginger soup. Behind him were Shen Jialu carrying a stack of small bowls and Shen Jiawen holding Shen Lili. Shen Jiaqing and Shen Jialuo followed behind, each carrying their own small bowl.
After hearing all this, seeing Shen Lili again evoked mixed feelings in me.
Yang took Shen Lili from Shen Jiawen's arms and fed her ginger soup spoonful by spoonful.
As Shen Lili drank the ginger soup, her round eyes looked at one of the men with some confusion.
Old Shen smiled kindly and patted Lili's head: "Your name is Lili, right? You're so cute. Lili did a good deed today, thank you, Uncle."
Shen Lili didn't blink and whispered, "Auntie is lucky."
The men of the Shen family were stunned.
If these things really have nothing to do with the baby, then what does the baby mean by saying that?
This little baby is definitely a lucky one!
Seeing that everyone in the family had arrived except for Chen, who had gone to invite Doctor Zhu, Old Mrs. Shen cleared her throat and said, "Everyone's here. I have something to tell you."
The Shen family members all quieted down and listened attentively.
Shen Lili sipped her ginger soup, blinking as she looked at her.
"Li Bao is a lucky girl. She is destined to be with our family. From now on, Li Bao will be raised under the third branch of the family and become the granddaughter of the Shen family!"
Old Mrs. Shen's words brought a mix of surprise, joy, and delight. Old Mr. Shen naturally wouldn't object to his wife's decision. Although the eldest and second sons of the Shen family were somewhat surprised, after hearing what Old Mrs. Shen had just said, they had already developed a liking for Little Pear.
Besides, how much food can a toddler who's just over two years old eat? They can't just abandon her like her biological parents did, can they?
Shen Laosan and Yang Shi were overjoyed. Yang Shi had already discussed it with Old Lady Shen, but it was only when the whole family formally talked about it that she truly felt that this well-behaved and adorable little pear was really her daughter!
Seeing his wife happy made Shen Laosan happy too, and since he himself really wanted a daughter, he immediately said, "No problem! From now on, our son will eat less, and we'll save the food for Li Bao!"
The younger children, including Shen Jiahao and Shen Jialu, who had just met Shen Lili, were also very happy.
