Chapter 2 Assassination Failure

Just then, a carriage speeding along the official road at full speed turned a corner and was about to hit the people when the driver slammed the reins on the horse's neck: "Whoa!"

The horse lifted its hooves and stopped just in front of the group.

The horse was forced to stop, stamping its front hooves wildly. Yang and Chen were too frightened to move, but Shen Lili stared straight into the carriage.

The young man driving the carriage looked to be about seventeen or eighteen years old. The two men in black who were chasing closely behind on horseback smiled smugly when they saw the carriage forced to stop. They immediately mounted their horses and leaped forward, wielding their large knives to slash into the carriage.

"Young master!" The young man immediately disregarded calming the agitated horse, drew his longsword, and engaged the two men in combat.

Without anyone to pet Anshun, the horse became increasingly agitated, and the Yang couple panicked, desperately trying to avoid it, as the horse's thick hooves were about to smash into them.

Suddenly, Shen Lili, who was in Yang's arms, turned around and faced the horse, pointing at it angrily with her hands on her hips: "Don't you dare touch it!"

Yang was terrified and quickly turned around to shield the baby with her own body.

Unexpectedly, the horse seemed to understand, and gradually quieted down, obediently standing in place and swishing its tail.

Yang and Chen were taken aback, and then Shen Lili stroked the horse's mane with satisfaction: "Good horse."

The horse affectionately nuzzled Chen Lili's palm, completely changing its previous frenzied state.

Seeing that the others were out of danger, the man who was fighting the two men in black focused on fighting them and shouted to them, "You guys run!"

Yang patted her chest in lingering fear: "You scared me to death, Auntie! Don't do that again, it's very dangerous!"

Yang thought it was just a coincidence, and the thought that the horse might have run over and killed the soft, chubby little dumpling made her tremble.

Shen Lili obediently revealed her two dimples and pointed to the car: "Car mud, there are people inside."

"Cough cough cough..."

Sure enough, a weak cough came from inside the carriage. The horse's neighing had been too loud to hear before, but now that the horse was quiet, the intermittent cough could be heard.

The coughing grew louder and louder, as if he was about to cough himself to death at any moment. After a moment's hesitation, Madam Yang lifted the curtain.

The luxurious interior of the carriage almost blinded Yang and Chen, but what was even more captivating was the handsome young man sitting inside.

He was only seven or eight years old, but he was born with rosy lips and white teeth, and was fresh and handsome.

However, the young man seemed to be unwell, constantly clutching his chest and coughing. When someone lifted the curtain, he only glanced at them briefly, lingering for a second on the baby in Yang's arms.

Seeing that he was coughing badly, Chen asked, "Are you alright?"

The young man opened his mouth as if to answer, but then coughed violently, spitting out a mouthful of blood.

"Oh dear, this must be very serious!"

Shen Lili glanced at the dark bloodstains on the young man's handkerchief and the fine beads of sweat on his forehead. She tugged at Yang's sleeve, her little feet kicking, and pointed to a dense thicket by the official road.

Yang looked in the direction she was pointing and saw a patch of weeds. She asked, "What's wrong?"

Shen Lili put her fist to her mouth, coughed twice, and said, "Medicine."

Ms. Chen asked in confusion, "What? What does this child mean?"

Yang was also puzzled, but her feet involuntarily stepped out and went to the place the little baby pointed to. She searched around and actually found several familiar herbs!

Shen Lili pointed to two of them: "Sanqi (Panax notoginseng) and Eclipta prostrata, for cough and blood!"

Madam Yang suddenly remembered that her fourth nephew, who was fond of medical books, had mentioned that there were several herbs that could relieve coughing up blood, and it seemed that there were indeed herbs like Panax notoginseng and Eclipta prostrata!

"Baby, how did you know there were Panax notoginseng and Eclipta prostrata here?" Madam Yang looked at the baby in her arms in shock.

Shen Lili stuck out her tongue, pretending not to hear. She was just an ordinary child who was not yet two years old.

Yang was in a state of mixed emotions. She coughed incessantly inside the car, and Chen's panicked voice could be heard: "Mother, why are you vomiting blood again? Stop vomiting! My goodness, I didn't do this, you vomited it yourself!"

Yang didn't care about anything else. She picked up the two herbs and carried them into the carriage. Due to limited resources, she could only crush the herbs with stones on the ground and grind them into powder as much as possible. Then she fed them to the young man using the water bag next to him.

The man who had dealt with the men in black arrived and was shocked to see them feeding something to the weakened Gu Ziyi: "What are you doing!"

Unexpectedly, the handsome young man raised his hand and stopped him: "Chasing the Wind!"

The man called Zhui Feng paused, fearing that the others had given him some kind of poison again. He pulled Yang Shi over and quickly checked on him: "Young Master, are you alright?"

With Zhui Feng's help, Gu Ziyi slowly sat up. He knew that he had not been poisoned, and although the substance was rough and hurt his throat, he actually felt much more comfortable.

Gu Ziyi looked at the little bundle of joy in the beautiful woman's arms, who was soaking wet but still undeniably adorable: "Thank you."

Shen Lili blinked and gave him a sweet smile: "You're a good person!"

Gu Ziyi was taken aback. It was clearly the little dumpling who saved him, so how come he was the good guy?

Zhuifeng still had doubts, but since his master had said so, and Gu Ziyi did seem to be getting better, Zhuifeng could only thank them: "Thank you all. May I ask what the madam fed my young master?"

“Sanqi, Eclipta prostrata, coughing up blood!” Shen Lili said, word by word.

Children often stumble over their words, but Gu Zi knew exactly where the little dumpling was pointing to the herbs.

Seeing that Shen Lili, at such a young age and still an infant, already knew these things, Gu Ziyi couldn't help but laugh: "You know all these things?"

Shen Lili patted her chest: "I'm so smart! You're not poisoned, it's just lung heat! Eat more lotus root juice and lean meat, along with Panax notoginseng and Eclipta prostrata, and it will be cured in the long run!"

She used to be a farmer in her past life, and since Chinese medicinal herbs grow in fields, she naturally got a little bit of them.

The little dumpling rattled off a whole string of words, and the tiny child was a little out of breath. A gust of wind blew, and the wet clothes clung to his body, making him even colder. He then sneezed.

Ms. Yang immediately said with concern, "The child has fallen into the water, I need to hurry home and change her clothes."

Gu Ziyi smiled, and it took him a while to recover from Shen Lili's words. He concealed the shock and disbelief in his eyes, took a jade pendant from Zhuifeng's waist, and handed it to Yang Shi: "Thank you. If you encounter any difficulties, take this jade pendant and come to the prefectural city to find me within three years."

After saying that, Gu Ziyi took a deep look at Shen Lili, who was blinking her big eyes, lowered the curtain, and the carriage started moving again.

Once the carriage had gone far away, Madam Chen dared to speak: "Good heavens! No wonder the carriage is so luxurious; they must be nobles from the prefectural city!"

Yang touched the jade pendant in her palm, her eyes filled with complicated emotions as she looked at the little dumpling in her arms. But the emotions vanished after the little dumpling sneezed again. She instantly forgot everything else, held the little dumpling close to her, and left.

Nestled in Yang's warm embrace, Shen Lili gazed in the direction the carriage had departed, then looked again towards a secluded thicket of trees.

This young man is probably more than just a nobleman from the capital.

As the carriage drove away, a fierce-looking middle-aged man emerged from the shadows, his eyes dark and brooding as he stared at the patch of grass with herbs.

A middle-aged man dressed as a subordinate walked up behind them. He stared at the departing carriage, a fierce glint in his eyes, and whispered, "Send the message back to the capital: the assassination attempt on His Highness the Crown Prince has failed."
