Chapter 38

Qin Zheng did not try to persuade her anymore, but got up and left.

After he left, Shi Mingyue immediately wrote a letter to Fu Yueli, telling him that the key was no longer in the two snakes' possession and to refrain from engaging them. She didn't mention Qin Zheng's possession of the key, as if the court learned of this, Qin Zheng might be killed. The messenger rode away quickly, remembering that Fu Yueli had been gone for five days. Shi Mingyue worried daily, hoping he wouldn't confront the two snakes head-on.

That night, she tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep. Fu Yueli must have received her letter by now, surely? Qin Zheng's thoughts were as reckless as hers. She wanted to change Fu Yueli's fate in her previous life, and so did Qin Zheng. Can fate be altered? If not, why could she be reborn and change her own destiny?

She pondered this for a long time, finally coming to the conclusion that fate could be changed. People are alive, with thoughts, and thoughts are mysterious and unpredictable. Thoughts determine actions, and actions, big and small, make up a person's life, which is also a person's destiny.

Because she didn't want to repeat what happened in her previous life, she refused to elope and chose to marry Fu Yueli. This action changed her life and affected her destiny.

So, she will continue.

After figuring this out, Shi Mingyue's heart calmed down, her mind now extremely clear. But at this moment, the door was pushed open. Just from the dark silhouette against the night sky, she recognized the person who came in: it was Qin Zheng!

Shi Mingyue suddenly sat up and scolded, "Qin Zheng, what do you want to do?!"

Qin Zheng saw that she was still awake, a hint of surprise in his eyes. He was in front of her like lightning, and pressed a finger on the acupuncture point on her chest. Shi Mingyue immediately lost consciousness and passed out. Qin Zheng took the clothes she had hung on the rack and carried her directly on his back.

After waking up and regaining consciousness, Shi Mingyue smelled the odor of earth. She slowly opened her eyes. The light was dim, and her hands felt the moist soil. It was self-evident where she was.

"You!" She turned her head and glared at Qin Zheng, extremely angry. How could he do this?

Qin Zheng was studying the keyhole on the bronze door with a tinder. He turned his head and glanced at her, then said casually, "You're awake, so get up and get ready to open the door and go in."

"Who said I should go in with you? What gives you the right to act on your own?" Shi Mingyue was extremely angry. She stood up and tried to find a way to leave.

Qin Zheng slowly lit another tinder, handed it to her, and said considerately, "Take it, so you can see clearly."

Shi Mingyue angrily took the tinderbox. She was stunned when she saw the guards lying in a mess on the ground. She hurried to check the breath of the nearest one. After sensing his breathing, she breathed a sigh of relief.

"They were just knocked unconscious by me." Qin Zheng explained kindly.

Shi Mingyue glared at him: "Do you know what crime this is? Do you want to die?!"

Qin Zheng smiled lightly: "Are you worried about me?"

Unexpectedly, he could still laugh and say such things at this moment. Shi Mingyue was so angry that she almost vomited blood. She only knew that she could not stay here any longer. If someone discovered her, not only would Qin Zheng be finished, but she would be finished too. She took the tinder and tried to find a way out, but found that to leave this huge pit, she had to climb a rope ladder along the wall.

She walked to the edge of the rope ladder and looked up. The ladder was not fixed to the wall, but was lowered directly from above. Holding the tinder in one hand, she began to climb up. After climbing a few steps, the entire ladder began to shake. She could only move slightly to try to make the ladder shake less violently.

"Stop climbing, come down, and let's open the door and go in." Qin Zheng said from behind.

Shi Mingyue ignored him and continued to climb. But Qin Zheng had seen enough and came over. Suddenly, with two or three steps, he stepped on the wall and reached the same height as Shi Mingyue. He hugged her around the waist and then landed easily in one go.

"What are you doing! Let me go! I won't go in with you!" Shi Mingyue pushed him, but Qin Zheng had practiced martial arts for many years, and her little fights had no effect on him at all. He forcibly carried her to the bronze door before letting her down.

"Go in, or I'll tell Fu Yueli about our past lives." Qin Zheng grabbed her arm, a hint of anger in his eyes. Now that she had resisted him so much, he did everything for her.

Shi Mingyue lowered her head and bit his arm hard. She could taste the blood, but Qin Zheng still didn't let go, as if he didn't feel the pain.

She could only relax, his blood still lingering on her lips. She felt sorry for him and for herself in her previous life. "I never thought you were such a bad person. You threaten me with such words? Do you think Fu Yueli is the same as you?"

"Have you already fallen in love with someone else?" Qin Zheng panicked. He had previously thought she simply resented him for not showing her enough love in her previous life, but that she still had feelings for him. He hadn't expected her to say such words, which meant that Fu Yueli's position in her heart was no longer something he could match.

Shi Mingyue thought it was ridiculous: "Yes, you can say that. After all, I used to like you. Now I like Fu Yueli, so I have indeed transferred my affection to someone else."

Qin Zheng then became more clear about his thoughts. He stared at her with a peculiar smile on his face. "Then you should go in and take a look. It was probably Fu Yueli's credit that we were able to be reborn in our previous life."

Shi Mingyue's expression was wrong. "What are you talking about?"

"If you want to know, then follow me in." Qin Zheng deliberately didn't tell her, took out the other keys from his waist and handed them to her.

Shi Mingyue took the key, somewhat bewildered. Was Qin Zheng lying to her? How could her rebirth be related to Fu Yueli?

"Open the door." Qin Zheng said in a deep voice.

They both inserted the key into the lock and turned it. With a click, the bronze door slowly opened. Qin Zheng first pushed Shi Mingyue behind him. He held her hand in one hand and walked in with a tinder in the other. The faint light of the fire illuminated the scene behind the bronze door. There were two lamps at the door. He lit the lamps with the tinder, and the inside became bright.

A horrifying scene occurred. A monk in white robes was sitting behind the desk right in front of him. The monk's face looked no different from that of a living person, except that his eyes were closed, making it unclear whether he was dead or alive.

Qin Zheng squeezed Shi Mingyue's hand and walked forward. As they got closer, they were shocked to find that the white-robed monk was actually alive! His chest was slightly moving, and a faint color could be seen on his face.

Who is he? Why is he here? Could he be He Jun? But He Jun was a person who lived over two hundred years ago. How could he still be alive today?!
