Chapter 357 Conversation with Wan Ya

Chen Zhe got up groggily; the surveillance screen had automatically turned off without anyone touching it.

He asked Yang Yun to go out and entertain the guests first, while he checked the surveillance footage again and found that Ye Lihong was no longer there.

"She must have left, that's for the best."

Not seeing her, Chen Zhe breathed a sigh of relief and then quickly washed up.

...

In the reception room.

Chen Zhe walked in and greeted him warmly.

"I'm sorry to have kept you waiting, District Chief Wan."

Wan Ya stood up, smiled, and shook hands with Chen Zhe; "It's alright, Mr. Chen, I just arrived too early."

"District Chief Wan is very busy with official duties, but he still took the time to come and guide our work. He is really dedicated."

Wan Ya smiled and said, "I wouldn't dare to offer guidance. Everyone has their own expertise, and we all have different responsibilities. I'm here today for no other reason than to say that I just took office and I heard from District Chief Wu (the former District Chief of the East District) that you've run the Linglong Club very well. I came here specifically to take a look and learn from you. After all, many businesses in Donghai are facing difficulties right now, and if I can learn something from you, I can better serve them."

Chen Zhe laughed heartily.

"Not at all, we're just barely making ends meet."

Wan Ya smiled meaningfully. "President Chen is being modest. I just asked Manager Yang, and your Linglong Club's performance has increased several times over compared to before. Given the current not-so-optimistic market economic situation, you are quite outstanding."

Wan Ya showered Linglong Club with praise, which made Chen Zhe a little wary.

Generally speaking, people who speak kindly to you must have something in mind. Sure enough, Wan Ya went around in circles and finally got to the point.

"Mr. Chen, I heard you have some conflicts with Shengli Group, is that right?"

Chen Zhe nodded; "We do have some disagreements."

"President Chen, if you disagree, you can sit down and talk it over. Both your Linglong Club and Shengli Group are good companies in Donghai. I hope that both of you can sit down and clarify the issues, work together, and contribute to the development of Donghai City. What do you think?"

Chen Zhe paused slightly.

"Did District Chief Wan come here today to act as a mediator?"

Wan Ya smiled and said, "That's about right. Your Linglong Chamber of Commerce has a lot of export quotas, and Shengli Group has a lot of production lines. If the two of you can resolve the conflict, then I believe it will be a happy event for Donghai City."

"I see, District Chief Wan. There may be some things you are not aware of. Whether we can cooperate with Shengli Group has little to do with our conflict."

"Um?"

Hearing Chen Zhe say this, Wan Ya became puzzled.

"I don't quite understand what Mr. Chen meant by that."

"Simply put, the reason why our Linglong Chamber of Commerce was able to obtain so many export quotas is because we fully meet the policy requirements. Shengli Group has many shortcomings, so even if we wanted to cooperate, we couldn't."

"Oh... that's alright. I already called President Shen before I came. You don't need to worry about the policy issues; I'll help you resolve them."

Chen Zhe tapped his finger lightly on the teacup. It seemed that District Chief Wan really wanted to facilitate the cooperation between Linglong Club and Shengli Group, but could they cooperate with Shen Xingang? Obviously not.

These two companies have reached a point of irreconcilable conflict, and the difficulties in cooperating are not as simple as they seem on the surface.

Partnering with the Victory Group wouldn't be very beneficial for Linglong Club, so Chen Zhe didn't want to agree to it.

“District Chief Wan, I think we should take this matter into consideration. We’re operating quite well right now, so there’s no rush to cooperate. There will be plenty of opportunities in the future.”

Chen Zheming wouldn't outwardly refuse, but his meaning was already quite clear.

Wan Ya squinted at Chen Zhe, hesitated for a moment, and then asked, "President Chen, is the reason you didn't agree because of what happened with President Hu a while ago? I heard that you had a conflict with President Shen at President Hu's funeral. Do you think President Shen is the one who harmed President Hu?"

"District Chief Wan, let's not discuss this matter. We really don't have any plans for cooperation at the moment."

Wan Ya came here today hoping to facilitate a collaboration between Linglong Club and Shengli Group, but Chen Zhe rejected that idea, which made her a little unhappy.

"President Chen, President Hu's matter indeed has nothing to do with President Chen. We have investigated and clarified this matter. I hope you can put aside your prejudices. When a company reaches a certain scale, it has to be responsible to society and cannot just focus on making money for itself. Do you think I am right?"

Wan Ya spoke with a stronger tone, clearly implying something more.

“District Chief Wan is absolutely right. I 100% agree. Back when President Hu was still alive, she said on TV that she wanted all the employees of Linglong Club and Linglong Chamber of Commerce to enjoy high salaries. We are now working towards that goal. Thanks to our efforts, our employees’ salaries have increased significantly, and their working hours have been shortened. Do you think we are on the right track, District Chief Wan?”

"this……"

"The Shengli Group has never agreed with President Hu's ideas from the beginning. They have publicly criticized President Hu in the media, saying that the actions of our Linglong Club are just for show, harm the people, and make them lose their fighting spirit. They believe that only by making employees work more overtime and suffer more can they have a better future. The ideas of our two companies are different from the theme. Now that District Chief Wan has asked our two companies to cooperate, the employees of our Linglong Club will definitely feel that we are betraying them. This will be very detrimental to our management. District Chief Wan, can you understand my concern?"

Chen Zhe's words made Wan Ya hesitate.

She had prepared many arguments to try and facilitate a collaboration between the two companies.

But Chen Zhe was too eloquent; he completely overwhelmed her with his words, leaving her speechless and unsure how to respond.

If she were to say that Chen Zhe was wrong, or that Linglong Club was going in the wrong direction, then that would mean that raising employee wages was wrong. Such words cannot be said lightly. If these words were to get out, she, the newly appointed district head, would probably be removed from her post.

But if she were to admit that Chen Zhe was right, then she would have to reject Victory Group's previous ideas. She had also talked to Shen Xingang, who was also a cunning old fox. His intention was to let her sound out Chen Zhe's opinion first.

Sometimes being a leader is quite difficult. As a mediator, if you want to mediate the conflict between two parties, you can't favor either side. Everyone has their own reasons, and it's hard to find a common ground.

Wan Ya shook her head slightly and smiled helplessly, "President Chen, it seems that there are indeed many problems to be solved in this matter. It is right to take a long-term approach."

"It's so good that District Chief Wan understands the difficulties our Linglong Club faces..."

"hehe……"

Wan Ya took a sip of tea and looked at Chen Zhe's arm, his palm still wrapped in bandages.

"What happened to Mr. Chen's hand?"

Chen Zhe pulled his hand back; "I got burned by the fire, it's nothing serious."

"Oh... Mr. Chen, you should still be careful. After all, you are now the president of Linglong Club, and many things require your attention."

"Thank you for your concern, District Chief Wan. I will take good care of myself."

"By the way, have your parents gone back yet?"

Wan Ya asked.

Chen Zhe smiled inwardly; Wan Ya had finally asked that question.

"District Chief Wan, thank you for your concern. My parents have already gone home. I want to apologize to you again. My parents were wrong yesterday. Don't worry, I've already resolved the car issue..."

Chen Zhe took out the car keys.

When his father left yesterday, he asked for the key back.

"District Chief Wan, my father damaged your car, please use this car for now."

Wan Ya smiled when she saw the set of keys.

He picked up the keys and looked at Chen Zhe strangely; "Mr. Chen, your car is so expensive, I dare not use it. If word gets out and the media finds out, it won't be good."

"After all, we made a mistake. I will donate this car to the government in the name of the company. Don't worry, all the procedures are in order."

Chen Zhe was indeed very thoughtful. He didn't say he was giving it to me, but he did give me the right to use it. Even if outsiders wanted to make a fuss about this, they couldn't.

"Mr. Chen, this is too much of a waste, and it's not good for us to drive this kind of car."

Chen Zhe smiled.

“It might be a bit of a problem if you drive alone, but I’m donating a batch. Many of the official vehicles of the leaders in Donghai City are too old and it’s time to replace them.”

Wan Ya was stunned.

"Mr. Chen, isn't this... too much of an expense?"

If the previous "spending so much money" was a joke, then this "spending so much money" reflects Wan Ya's true feelings.

“How can this be considered a waste of money? You work hard for the happiness of the people of Donghai. As members of the people of Donghai, we also hope to contribute. District Chief Wan, please don’t refuse anymore.”

The unit's administrative vehicles are indeed old and worn out, but the cars that Chen Zhe sent are all too valuable. If we accept them all, it would be against regulations.

After hesitating for a moment, Wan Ya still refused.

"Mr. Chen, thank you for your kindness, but your parents' matter is not a big deal. You don't need to worry about it."

When Wan Ya said those words, it meant that the matter was basically over.

If she nitpicks again, it will make her seem petty.

“But District Chief Wan, the car has already been bought. If you don’t use it, it’s a waste to leave it there.”

"You can keep it for yourselves."

“Our company already has enough cars, we don’t need this one, District Chief. How about this? We donate this car to a welfare organization, what do you think? They might be able to use it.”

Chen Zhe's words made Wan Ya's eyes light up.

Although I didn't achieve what I wanted today, if Chen Zhe could donate a batch of cars, then my trip wouldn't have been in vain.

Wan Ya smiled broadly.

"Mr. Chen is truly magnanimous. He is indeed a socially responsible entrepreneur. On behalf of them, I thank you."
