Chapter 477 Waiting

That night was exceptionally long. Chen Zhe didn't go back to his room. Zhang Kai sat beside him and couldn't help but fall asleep, snoring loudly. But Chen Zhe became more and more awake with each passing moment. His fingers were interlaced, his palms were sweaty, and his eyes were fixed on the front door, never looking away.

He desperately hoped that Xie Yuhan would walk in the next moment, that he could beg for her forgiveness, and that this time he would promise himself he would never make that mistake again.

The stars shift and the sun rises.

As dawn broke, the rooster kept in the Taoist temple climbed onto the roof and began to crow.

Daylight finally broke, but the door remained unmoved.

Zhang Kai, who was asleep, was awakened by the crowing of a rooster. After waking up, he found that Chen Zhe was missing. He searched the front and back yards but did not find him. Seeing that the gate was open, he ran out and found Chen Zhe on the edge of a cliff.

He moved over slowly, somewhat worried.

"Mr. Chen, you woke up so early?"

He stopped at a suitable distance; if Chen Zhe wanted to jump off the cliff at this distance, he would need to quickly grab Chen Zhe.

Chen Zhe looked at the rising sun in the distance.

"Brother Zhang, I have a question for you. Can you answer me truthfully?"

"Mr. Chen, please speak."

Zhang Kai moved a little closer.

"What kind of person do you think I am?"

Chen Zhe's abrupt question left Zhang Kai somewhat bewildered. He thought for a moment, then replied, "President Chen is a very good person, very kind, very intelligent, and very considerate..."

Chen Zhe shook his head bitterly.

"None of these are true. I am a person who does not keep promises. I promised Xiaoyu that I would make her happy, but I still hurt her."

"This... Mr. Chen, you didn't do it on purpose..."

"Whether I did it intentionally or not, what I did has caused irreversible harm to Xiaoyu. I thought a lot last night. I've known Xiaoyu for so long, and all she's ever brought me is joy, while all I've ever brought her... seems to be trouble and sorrow..."

He was always happy after talking to Xie Yuhan, feeling that he had figured things out. There were some things that were troubling him and he couldn't understand. After talking to Xie Yuhan, she always had a different perspective, which made him suddenly realize the truth.

He was happy, but last night he suddenly wondered if Xie Yuhan was happy.

She always listens to so many of my complaints and worries, and talks to me so much without getting tired of it. Is she happy? I don't think I've ever asked her if she's happy or not. Am I a negative person? Am I someone who only brings bad news?

"Mr. Chen, I think you shouldn't think too much about it. Your senior sister may not understand right now. I can tell that she loves you very much. There must be some misunderstanding between you two. Once the misunderstanding is cleared up, it will be fine. Don't let it get to you."

He finally placed his hand on Chen Zhe's shoulder, and the moment he grasped Chen Zhe's hand, he finally felt a little more at ease.

Honestly, given Chen Zhe's current condition, Zhang Kai is genuinely worried that he might suddenly decide to jump. He can pull him back the first time, but there's no guarantee he can pull him back a second time.

"Mr. Chen, let's go back. Let's go back to the Taoist temple first. Maybe my senior sister and the others will be back soon."

Chen Zhe nodded, stood up, and returned to the living room with Zhang Kai.

After a while, someone brought breakfast over.

"You guys eat first, you can go down the mountain after you finish eating."

Zhang Kai took a steamed bun and stuffed it into his mouth; "Senior brother, we're not in a hurry, we'll wait for Master to come back."

The senior brother shook his head.

“You don’t need to wait. Master just called me and told you to leave.”

"Did the Taoist priest call? Did he say anything else?"

Chen Zhe stepped forward anxiously and asked.

Seeing Chen Zhe's anxious expression, the senior brother sighed slightly.

"Master said that the Taoist temple will no longer welcome you. You must have angered him greatly. We can no longer take you in, so please leave after this meal."

Before he could even finish swallowing his steamed bun, Zhang Kai said, "Senior brother, it's just a misunderstanding. Master isn't that heartless, is he?"

The senior brother shook his head and left without saying anything more.

Zhang Kai turned to Chen Zhe; "President Chen, what should we do? They don't welcome us. Should we go down the mountain?"

"No, I must explain this to Xiaoyu."

"But...they're kicking us out. Are we really going to sit there with our backs on our shoulders?"

"There's no room inside, but you can sit outside."

Chen Zhe didn't even take the steamed bun. He turned around and went out the door, and actually sat down on a rock. The location was right across from the gate, not far away. Sitting here, he could see when Xie Yuhan and the others would return.

Zhang Kai took a few more steamed buns, walked over, stuffed them into Chen Zhe's hands, and then plopped down next to Chen Zhe.

"Mr. Chen, food is essential for life. You'll get hungry if you skip a meal, and it's not pleasant to have an empty stomach."

Chen Zhe gave a bitter laugh; "Thank you, Brother Zhang."

He picked up his phone and called Yang Yun, who was now basically acting as his deputy. This job used to be done by Wu Yuanyuan, but Wu Yuanyuan had gone to southern Xinjiang, so it was now her turn.

He handed over his work instructions and said that he wouldn't be going back to the company for the next few days. Although Yang Yun was a little grumbling and dissatisfied, she still agreed.

While Zhang Kai was in the restroom, Chen Zhe called Hu Ling again, but she didn't answer. He then sent her a text message and then ignored it.

The company is important, business is important.

But now, Xie Yuhan is more important to him.

It was midday, and because the large rock wasn't shaded by any trees, it was scorching hot from the sun.

"Mr. Chen, how about we go over there? There are trees there!"

"Brother Zhang, you go ahead, I want to wait here."

Although the spot Zhang Kai pointed to had some shade, it was quite far from the main gate, so you might not be able to see the entrance from there.

Zhang Kai was in a bit of a dilemma. If the boss didn't go over, it would be disrespectful for him to go over. Besides, he didn't just see Chen Zhe as a boss; he also saw Chen Zhe as a brother. Since they were brothers, they should share the good times and the bad.

He didn't go over either.

Time passed by, minute by minute. Chen Zhe and the others waited from morning until evening, but Xie Yuhan and Xie Laodao still hadn't returned.

"Mr. Chen, wait here for me for a moment, I'll go find something to eat!"

Having been hungry all day, Zhang Kai was already feeling ravenously hungry. He believed that Chen Zhe, who was weaker than him, was in even worse pain, so he decided to find something to eat first.

He certainly wouldn't go digging for wild vegetables; he went to the Taoist temple's kitchen.

The senior student didn't make things difficult for him. Two bowls of rice were already placed there, as if they had been prepared for a long time, as if they had been waiting for him to come.

“Junior brother, it’s not that I don’t want to help you, but Master has given orders, and I can’t help you.”

Zhang Kai nodded.

"Senior brother, I know, it's just a misunderstanding. Sigh, it's really tough on President Chen. I feel sorry for him when I see him like this."
