"Damn it, he really is a fraud!" Caroline was as angry as a cat whose tail had been stepped on. She had trusted this guy so much that she thought he was her savior, even though he was impersonating the Pope. She never expected him to be a fraud. She not only lost her money but also her dignity. She wished she could chop him into mincemeat and feed him to the sharks in the sea.
She picked up the silver pot that was still on the table and smashed it on the ground with a loud cracking sound.
"How did he get out?" Phil Gray walked towards the only possible place—the window. The guest room windows were all semi-circular with iron edges, engraved with intricate patterns and designs, showcasing the luxury and sophistication of Gold Coin No. 3. A thin curtain hung over the window, which could be drawn or drawn at will, adding a touch of softness and privacy to the room.
He pulled back the window screen and found that the window was not closed tightly, leaving a small gap. He ran his fingers along the window frame, looking for anything unusual, and finally found that the iron frame at the bottom was bent, obviously having been stepped on.
"This guy jumped into the sea and ran away?" Eli was somewhat surprised. He leaned out and looked down, only to see the seawater shimmering golden in the sunlight. He didn't see any people or ships.
"What a shameless liar, a greedy clown! If I find him, I'll burn him alive!" Caroline cursed angrily, never expecting that person to leave in this way.
This is the vast ocean, and it takes two or three days to reach the nearest land. There are many dangerous animals in the sea, and generally no one leaves the passenger ship because it is impossible to survive there. So they all ignore this possibility.
“There’s nothing we can do.” Eli shook his head and looked at Caroline. “Perhaps you could ask Bernie how he handled this situation before.” He gently patted her shoulder, trying to comfort her.
Caroline stood there, stunned, then squatted down, tears welling in her eyes. "I was so stupid, really," she said, hugging her knees and trembling.
Seeing that she was about to turn into a nagging old woman, Phil Gray quickly comforted her, "It's alright, it's just a loss of money." But inwardly he couldn't help but sigh. Although the swindler was cheating her out of money, the future he saw might actually be real. Now it seemed that Caroline would have to rely on herself to get out of that dangerous situation.
"Waaah, but I didn't have much money! He swindled a third of my life savings," Caroline sobbed.
Eli raised an eyebrow, apparently having underestimated the wealth of the Cult of Dawn.
"But does that mean his whole story was a lie, and I didn't actually have such a life-or-death situation? Humph." Caroline tried to comfort herself, but the more she thought about it, the angrier she became.
“That’s not necessarily true. I think you should probably skip going to Malu Island and return with them once you reach the shore,” Phil Gray said after carefully considering his words.
"No, I have to go. He's a liar. He only said that to scam money. I'll never believe him again!"
“But he’s also a favored one of the God of Destiny. Maybe he really saw something.” When Eli heard his boss say this, he instantly realized that he might have used the Eye of Destiny, just like when he was kidnapped. So he chimed in.
Caroline's beautiful brows furrowed. "No, no matter what, I can't not go there."
“Okay, alright, let’s go ask Bernie. Maybe he has other ideas, considering what happened on his ship,” Phil Gray suggested.
“What can he do? Can he get his big bird to catch that liar?” Caroline pouted, but still went with them to find Bernie.
Bernie travels around the distinguished guests every day, looking for business opportunities and providing the most enthusiastic service.
After asking several waiters, they finally found Bernie, who was scolding the crew. Apparently, some crew members had secretly drunk the guests' drinks and ended up completely drunk, affecting some of the ship's services.
Bernie changed into a gorgeous purple robe and a feathered hat in just half a day. Caroline immediately remembered the gold coins he had earned from her and glared at him fiercely, but she couldn't do anything about it, since she had been tricked.
“Oh, my dear Miss Caroline, is there anything else you need?” Bernie greeted them with unusual enthusiasm as they approached.
Eli scoffed at his expression. "Your big customer has been scammed. That person jumped into the sea and ran away."
"What?" Bernie stroked his chin, asking in surprise, "What exactly happened?"
Phil Gray told Bernie everything the imposter had done. Bernie recalled the night of the ball and realized that the imposter did indeed look like a nobleman, admired and adored by everyone. However, he was too busy hosting the ball to notice him.
"He's impersonating the Pope of Fate? But I don't remember Phil Gray being on the passenger list," Bernie mused.
“He certainly wouldn’t dare to impersonate him openly; he only revealed it privately to some of the ladies he danced with,” Caroline said, pouting.
"Did he tell some of the ladies he danced with? Were they also seduced by him?" Bernie asked.
"Huh? I didn't think of that." Caroline slapped her forehead, then said, "It shouldn't be, it was so late last night, how could he have had time to deceive others?"
“That’s hard to say,” Bernie shook his head. “Come with me.”
They went to the captain's cabin, which was magnificent and luxurious. After greeting the captain, Bernie took out a square crystal object from inside. "This is a megaphone crystal."
He cleared his throat. "Dear passengers, at yesterday's ball, a gray-haired, blue-eyed guest impersonated the Pope of Fate and swindled a young lady out of many valuable items. Has anyone else been deceived by him? Please come to the captain's cabin immediately."
Phil Gray was surprised to hear the sound begin to be transmitted on Gold Coin Three, over and over again. He looked at the crystal with curiosity; it looked expensive, but he still thought that the megaphone on Earth might be more practical. After all, not everyone could afford a crystal.
They waited in the captain's cabin, and soon several passengers arrived, including an elderly nobleman with a cane, whose face looked rather unwell.
Phil Gray shouldn't have believed that the conman was so tired after checking his own fate that he went back to rest, even though he had clearly fooled so many people!
