Chapter 150 Hunger is Paramount

"What do you want? To keep us here?" Phil Gray found it somewhat amusing; these people were so hungry they could barely walk, let alone have the strength to hold onto them.

"Why not?" The boss raised his thin arm, gave a strange smile, and then lunged at Phil Gray.

"Oh, how horrible!" Phil Gray watched helplessly as his boss's mouth transformed into a gaping maw, about to swallow him whole.

He chuckled lightly, calmly tossing several blades of fate into that gaping maw. "How is it? Delicious?"

The boss clutched his neck in agony, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth. The blade formed from divine power had slashed his mouth and throat.

The remaining believers stopped, but their eyes were still filled with resentment, and they kept chanting, "No food! No food!"

"Meow~" Night meowed disapprovingly and jumped onto Phil Gray.

“Let’s leave, these people are really strange!” Phil Gray said, putting on the gloves of the Sunblade Sword, the longsword burning with the flames of the sun cutting a path through the many hungry believers.

"Hunger! Hunger! Hunger!"

The believers shouted loudly, and green threads of divine power emanated from their bodies, with a faint black light shining through the power.

They surrounded him relentlessly, their divine power forming a strange ring.

Phil Gray's expression hardened; he suddenly felt his stomach was empty, and an intense feeling of hunger washed over him.

Eli clutched his stomach, "What kind of attack was that? I'm so hungry!"

Ernest stopped in his tracks, his sword flashing as he relentlessly slashed down the gaping maw that lunged at him.

Phil Gray kicked the door open.

They finally left the hotel and ran away.

Those strange believers didn't follow, most likely because they were too hungry to keep up.

"Oh my, what a strange inn. I'm so hungry, I haven't felt like this in a long time." Eli stopped in his tracks; they were now quite a distance from the inn.

“Yes, but they should be considered a cult, right? How come the Church of Life in the city still allows them to run a hotel here?” Phil Gray asked, puzzled. “Luckily, we are the Chosen Ones. If we were ordinary people, they would have definitely succeeded.”

“Perhaps it’s a newly opened hotel? Let’s report it to the Church of Life in Keguel City, just in case others are also harmed,” Phil Gray said after thinking for a moment.

“Well, we need to eat something now. You should still have the fresh fish you bought for this little guy in your space, right? It won’t eat it, but we can grill it to fill its stomach.” Eli found an open space and spread out a huge green leaf.

“Okay.” Phil Gray nodded, and Ernest picked up some more sticks and branches from the ground. They skewered the fish and put them on top to grill.

"Let's add some seasoning." Eli took out a few chilies, crushed them with his hands, and stuck them onto the fish. He also took out a few lemons and squeezed out the juice.

Soon the fish began to smell delicious.

"Meow~" Night, smelling the fragrance, jumped off Phil Gray's shoulder and rubbed against Eli's leg.

"Oh? It actually touched me on its own!" Eli was a little excited. It had been ignoring him for the past few nights, and this had never happened before.

"Does it want to eat fish?" Phil Gray wondered. This little guy isn't picky, does he not eat ordinary fish?

"It must be. It seems those fanatical cultists have even influenced the cat. This little guy already has a big appetite, and now he's even hungrier." Eli took down the grilled fish, intending to give the cat a piece. "Here, have a taste. This fish is just as good as those expensive ones..."

Before it could finish speaking, the darkness leaped lightly, and the whole fish fell into its mouth.

"You bastard!"

Eli was speechless. Before he could snatch the fish back, all that was left on the spot was a pile of fish bones.

"Hahaha." Phil Gray laughed, then took out the remaining fish from his spatial storage. "Don't rush, there's more here. Night, you can't eat alone."

He reached out his hand, and the night jumped over, affectionately nuzzled his hand, and meowed, indicating that it understood.

They grilled and ate the fish on the spot, and then leisurely began their journey.

After walking for about half an hour, we finally saw the city gate of Keguel.

Some tall fruit trees were planted in front of the city gate, and they were just beginning to bloom. Pink petals fell from the trees, leaving a light pink layer on the ground.

The city gates were wide open, as if welcoming guests from afar.

"This is considered the border of the Life Parish, not as bustling as Duer City," Eli said as they walked.

The city was very peaceful, with flowers, trees and shrubs everywhere, full of the breath of spring.

"Excuse me, where is the Church of Life? We have some important things to report to the church." Phil Gray stopped a young man with blond hair who looked enthusiastic and optimistic. He was selling paper kites to passersby.

"Oh, go straight ahead, then turn left at the main road. That's the tallest building. Good luck, but if you're here to report about the Forget-to-Eat Inn outside the city, there's no need for that," the young man said rapidly, as if he had already said it many times.

"Huh? You know that hotel?" Phil Gray asked in surprise. Eli and Ernest blinked, also somewhat taken aback.

“Yes, that hotel has been outside our city for decades. It existed before I was born, so of course I know about it.” The young man smiled.

"Why doesn't the Church of Life deal with those members?"

“They have their own beliefs, and the principle of freedom of religion on the continent of Ver is that the Church of Life will not interfere, and they pose no threat.” The young man chuckled. “You also accidentally entered that hotel? It’s okay, just do as they say and drink the holy water.”

"Huh? You drank holy water?"

"Yes, it's quite delicious. Sometimes when I pass by the outskirts of the city, I make a point of stopping for a few cups. It makes you feel hungry for a while, but you don't want to eat anything. There are families here where children eat until they're stuffed and then go to ask them for a few cups of holy water. However, if you don't agree to drink the holy water, those believers might scare you, like opening their mouths wide and forcing you to drink it."

After the young man finished speaking, he chuckled a few times. "To be honest, over the years, every time a traveler comes to me asking about the location of the Church of Life, and saying how strange the hotel outside is, I've almost gotten used to it!"

"So that's how it is," Phil Gray said, looking at his two companions. "Who knew it would be like this? They thought those people were some kind of vicious villains, but it turns out they were just forcing people to drink water."
