After a long wait, Patrick finally arrived with a can of fried fish, looking dejected and seemingly worn out by the long wait.
"I don't want to eat anymore, cousin, you guys eat." He squatted in the corner and let out a long sigh.
"Haha, let's go back and eat."
Back at the hotel, the efficient owner had already replaced the tables and chairs.
They ordered a casual dinner.
"So, has George made any moves?" Phil Gray asked in a low voice.
"He came down several more times but didn't go out. His face remained gloomy, as if he were preoccupied. His servants also returned, but they hadn't caught up with the young man," Ernest replied.
Phil Gray put down his knife and fork. "What that holy son said today must have made him feel guilty. Although I don't know what he's planning, he'll definitely take action soon."
Let's take turns monitoring his movements tonight, and find out what he's doing and whether the disappearance of those dozens of girls is related to him.
“Okay, anyway, I’ll just be bullied by those undead if I sleep at night, so I might as well not sleep at all.” Patrick laughed as he opened the jar of fried fish and looked at Ernest. “Try it. This fish took all my life force to queue up for. If it’s not good, I’ll cut George’s head off.”
After saying that, he seemed to realize something, rubbed his fluffy red hair, and remained silent.
"Have you heard of any other god besides the God of Fate and the Child of Night who doesn't descend upon the world of Ver?" Phil Gray asked.
“No, all I know is that our Church of Destiny has declined, while other churches are thriving.” Patrick shook his head.
“Well, I know nothing about any other gods except the god of life and the god of death,” Eli shook his head.
Phil Gray glanced at him briefly, wondering why Eli knew about the God of Death. Back then, he was also very familiar with the mark of the Cult of Dawn and knew how the Cult of the Dead used lifeless spirits to deal with the mark of the sun.
“I suspect the disappearance of the Children of Night is related to the Goddess of Dreams,” Ernest said hesitantly.
"What's the meaning?"
"The Dream God Cult suddenly rose to prominence a thousand years ago. It was originally just a small church following the gods, with not many believers. However, it later became one of the major religions in the Eastern Continent. A thousand years ago was also the time when the Children of Night disappeared."
“But isn’t the Goddess of Dreams a follower of the Sons of Night? After the Sons of Night stopped descending, it’s not surprising that His followers turned to the Goddess of Dreams, is it?” Patrick asked.
“But for the gods, His church represents His face, and the faith of believers can influence His divine power and authority. How could the Son of Night, the chief god, allow the church of the goddess of dreams from God to surpass His church? Unless He has no ability to interfere in the human world anymore.” Ernest’s tone was somewhat heavy.
"Besides that, after I dueled with the person who harmed me, I found a yellowed note in his space. It must have been several hundred years old. It read: Help the goddess, replace the night!"
"What?" Surprise flashed in the eyes of the others.
"In other words, the decline of the Children of Night and the Church of Night could indeed have been orchestrated by the Goddess of Dreams and the Cult of Dreams," Phil Gray said slowly, glancing at the equally shocked crowd. "If it was to gain followers and authority from the Supreme God, then the followers of the God of Fate..."
"No, the God of Fate has only one subordinate deity, the Goddess of Luck. Although everyone hopes to be luckier, only gamblers truly worship her as their sole deity."
"So He doesn't even have a formal church, just a faith group called Fortune Worship, which hasn't shown any signs of rising in recent years, and has even helped us when other churches threatened the Church of Destiny." Patrick shook his head.
“The affairs of the gods are too distant. Who knows if the Children of Night were just being playful, or if they made some kind of pact with the Goddess of Dreams? And perhaps your God of Fate was simply too tired and asleep? We know nothing about what is happening in their divine kingdom.” Eli smiled.
The others nodded in agreement.
Only Phil Gray remained eager to know what had happened between these gods and how his own time travel had occurred.
However, it's unlikely we'll know the truth anytime soon.
Oh, right, he also had that book. He remembered the book "Tales of the Gods," which he had only read the beginning of that day at the train station.
After discussing the arrangements for monitoring George, it was already very late at night.
Back in his room, he opened the book again.
The book begins with the words, “If you have seen this book, you should thank a god for his mercy, who allowed people to record and spread his stories. But not all gods are happy for believers to know his stories, his baseness and ugliness, and his weakness and confusion, just like humans.”
Could an omniscient and omnipotent god be as weak as a human? And who is the god who allowed this book to circulate?
Phil Gray frowned; he didn't really understand what was going on. He had been pondering it in the car that day.
However, I really want to know which believer wrote this book, as they used such derogatory terms to describe God, but there is no author information on the cover or back cover.
He turned to the next page, "Now I will first give a detailed introduction to the gods that currently exist in the world of Vil..."
Existing gods? What does that mean? Does it mean that some gods no longer exist? Phil Gray was startled.
He focused his attention on the descriptions of the gods, starting with the six main gods, then life, death, and so on. There were only five gods in total, and the Child of Night was not among them.
Phil Gray felt as if he had discovered a great secret. If "existence" meant being alive, then had the Children of Night already fallen?
So it's not on top? So it hasn't appeared since a thousand years ago?
Unsure whether what the book said was true or false, Phil Gray continued reading with a frown.
The following pages are introductions to the gods; there are so many gods that it's impossible to read them all in one go.
He yawned, feeling increasingly sleepy, until he heard Patrick calling him softly from outside the door.
"Cousin, I just saw George leave with his men. Eli and Ernest followed behind them. Let's go check it out!"
“Okay.” Phil Gray quickly ran out of the hotel with Patrick.
"That direction!"
Sure enough, they saw George and his entourage walking hurriedly from afar, with Eli and Ernest following closely behind.
"Let's stay away from him and not let him see us," Phil Gray whispered.
And so, one after the other, the four of them followed George to the banks of the Lensey River.
George stopped there, motionless.
Then a small boat swam over, and George and his servants boarded it.
