"How do we solve this?" Simona asked curiously.
“Don’t get involved in this, Simmona. You should go and prepare dinner for everyone,” Ernest said, stroking his sister’s soft hair.
Assassinating a princess of a kingdom is no small matter.
“But…” Simona wanted to say something, but when she saw Ernest’s sharp gaze, she bit her lower lip. “Okay, what do you want to eat tonight?”
“I’m not picky, give me a few sandwiches,” Eli said first. “Of course, it would be even better if you could also prepare some roasted lamb chops.”
“I’m fine with anything.” Phil Gray smiled at Simone; there were indeed some things they couldn’t let her know.
"Okay, please wait a moment. I'll go to the kitchen and prepare it for you with the cook." Simona hesitated for a moment, glanced back at her brother, and then lifted her skirt and left.
"Your Majesty, do you have any ideas?" Ernest asked.
“As I just mentioned, I met Frank, the owner of the Resting House, in the Abyss of the Dead. Actually, I can summon him to the mortal realm now. Ghosts have the ability to become invisible, and he is a commander-level undead, equivalent to our Divine Revelation-level Chosen One. As long as there are no members of the Cult of Dawn in the palace, he should be able to assassinate the princess.” Phil Gray revealed his plan, but he was unsure whether the palace had any other protective measures. Although the princess was an ordinary person and not a Chosen One, it was unknown whether she had any high-level Chosen Ones among her subordinates.
He also expressed his concerns.
“No need to worry, the princess is no longer in the palace.” Ernest gripped his sword tightly, a cold smile playing on his lips. “This afternoon, my father told me that the king thought Princess Sani had disgraced him and damaged the royal family’s reputation, and the queen had always disliked her, so they sent her out of the palace to recuperate. She set off early this morning, her destination being a manor outside the city. She should be settled in by now.”
"That's wonderful!" This is a golden opportunity. There may be many defensive forces in the palace, but outside the city, how many divine followers can a princess like Sani, who is despised by the king, bring with her?
“Just to be on the safe side, I’ll leave the assassination to Mr. Frank.” Phil Gray smiled. It was time to summon him again. He hadn’t had time to summon him the past few days, partly to keep him in check and make him understand that only by helping him could he gain a chance to come back to the human world.
I think he'd be happy to help me this time.
“He only knows that I am a chosen one of the God of Death and come from a family of the Church of Fate. We can’t reveal any other information to him. He was a member of the Light of Wisdom in his previous life, and I always felt that he was not that simple.” Phil Gray once again reminded his two companions.
“Okay.” Eli and Ernest nodded.
Phil Gray stretched out his hand, and a black magic circle reappeared in his palm. He whispered, "Undead companions, heed my call—Frank!"
As the magic circle expanded, a door appeared out of thin air, followed by a ghostly old man whose eyes were filled with sorrow.
"Didn't I tell you to summon me sooner? I even brought you a gift from the Resting House."
Phil Gray smiled. "I'm sorry, Mr. Frank, I've been too busy these past few days, rushing to get to the Western Continent. Besides, there's not much to do on that island. Now that we're here on the Western Continent, you can enjoy the scenery to your heart's content."
"Is this the Western Continent?" Frank glanced around the living room and saw the lawn and fence outside through the frosted glass.
"Yes, we will travel through many church cities, and then from the Western Continent to the Eastern Continent. Along the way, you will definitely see enough of the human world."
After Phil Gray finished speaking, Frank's expression softened slightly. "Okay, look, I brought you something."
A pair of sky-blue earrings appeared on his hands. The earrings were diamond-shaped and set with diamonds in the center.
"For me?" Phil Gray couldn't understand why he was giving himself earrings; they were clearly women's earrings.
"When I saw Edith, that female pirate, that day, I remembered an earring from my collection in my resting place. Its owner was also a female pirate who once dominated the South China Sea, the uncrowned queen of the sea at that time. She left behind a treasure legend: somewhere on the seabed in the South China Sea, there is an underwater city that she built with all her wealth, and the key is this pair of earrings. It is said that there are many precious treasures in the underwater city." Frank recounted the story behind the earrings.
A treasure key? That sounds great. Phil Gray thought he could go treasure hunting if he had the chance, and even if he didn't have time, he could give it to Edith and Patrick as a wedding gift.
“Thank you, Mr. Frank. I really like this gift, and I would be happy to receive anything more interesting.” Phil Gray accepted the earrings and expressed his gratitude.
“Then you’ll have to summon me more often. I have plenty of things like the Resting Place.” Frank had a proud look on his face. As a collector, he was naturally happy that others liked his collection, even though this guy seemed a bit “greedy.”
“By the way, Mr. Frank, we need your help with something so that we can travel more freely between the Western and Eastern continents later,” Phil Gray said tactfully.
"What kind of help?"
“We are currently in the capital of the Kingdom of Puna. Princess Sani of this kingdom is our mortal enemy. She has been sending people to hunt us down. If we don’t deal with her, wave after wave of troublemakers will follow us and cause us trouble. Then we won’t be able to enjoy the scenery along the way.” Phil Gray said with a frown and a tone of indignation.
"So, you want me to kill her?" Frank asked, glancing sideways.
“Yes, she’s very wary. If we go, we’ll definitely be discovered. But you’re a ghost; you can become invisible and kill her without her noticing,” Phil Gray said.
Frank stared at him, his old face scrunched up. "You want me to kill someone? You summoned me here so you could do something?"
"So that our journey ahead will be more enjoyable, and so that you can better appreciate the scenery," Phil Gray said with a smile, sincerely.
"Alright, I'll agree this once, but I have no idea where this princess you're talking about is." Frank reluctantly agreed.
“I’ll go with Eli and you,” Phil Gray said.
Ernest tensed up. "What about me? I have to protect you."
"Oh? And who is this?" Frank looked at Ernest.
“He is a good friend of mine and will be traveling with us.” Phil Gray said, then patted Ernest on the shoulder. “With the princess in trouble, the king will definitely suspect you. Your father and sister still need to live in the Kingdom of Puna, so we can’t afford to offend him again. Therefore, tonight you should take the Duke of Surrey to a public place to provide an alibi. That way, even if the king has suspicions, he won’t dare to openly harm you.”
“But…” He gripped the longsword tightly, still feeling uneasy.
"Oh dear, the one who's going to assassinate the princess is this old man. They'll just be keeping watch outside. What's there to worry about!" Frank rolled his eyes.
Ernest pondered for a moment, then could only nod. “Alright, but you all need to be careful.” He looked out the window again. “Tonight, a mermaid opera house is opening, and many nobles have been invited. I’ll take my father and Simone to see it later.”
"That would be perfect."
They exchanged smiles, while Frank stood by looking bored. Youth is wonderful, with its friendships, courage, and challenges—things that have long since faded from his own life.
