Viscount Walder stepped out from behind him, the cold glint of his sword reflecting the fleeting changes in the black-robed man's expression.
Phil Gray coughed. "Excuse me, we just want to find out what happened to the Blacktooth Shark so we can leave as soon as possible. And since you're a chosen one of the gods of death, if your skills have any ability to communicate with the undead..."
The man in black robes had a fierce look in his eyes, which then turned calm. "Why should I leave? Isn't it better to stay on this ship? The aura of death, so many undead—for a follower of the god of death, this is practically a holy land!"
Phil Gray was speechless. He himself was a chosen one of the gods of death, so why didn't he feel that this place was any better?
"Besides, you're a member of the Dawn Cult, why should I help you? Just kill me, and I'll be able to see my god sooner." The man in black seemed unconcerned about the sword at his neck; the blade sliced across his neck, leaving a bloody gash.
Should he have used his status as a member of the Death Clan to try and get close to him back then?
Phil Gray sighed, somewhat exasperated by his stubbornness.
Viscount Ward retrieved his sword and smiled. "Indeed, I shouldn't have threatened a follower of death with my own."
"Hmph." The man in black wiped the blood from his neck, licked it with the tip of his tongue, and then left.
“I think something’s off about him. Have someone keep an eye on him,” Phil Gray whispered to Viscount Ward.
"certainly."
“Phil, I found this.” Eli hurriedly walked to Phil Gray’s side and took out a worn book from his pocket.
"What is this?" Phil Gray took it and found that it was a diary, and the owner of the diary was named Don Dolly!
Is he the person Captain Jeremy was talking about?
Phil Gray casually found a stool and sat down. He said to Eli, "I just went to the captain's cabin. After I mentioned the Blacktooth Shark, the captain was possessed by Jeremy's ghost, and he mentioned the owner of this diary—Don!"
Eli nodded. "I found this diary in the kitchen."
"Then that's it. Jeremy had him cook for the passengers, so he must be the ship's cook. Have you read it? What's written in his diary?"
Phil Gray asked impatiently.
Elaine paused for a moment. "I looked at it, but I didn't understand it. Literally, this diary is written in ancient script."
"Ancient script?" Phil Gray realized that the name he had just heard was indeed not written in modern script, but since he could read all scripts, he hadn't paid much attention to it.
“Perhaps he didn’t want the other people on the ship to understand his diary; it must have recorded some secrets.” Phil Gray’s eyes lit up as he gently opened it.
"You actually understand ancient scripts? Isn't that something only those old men from the Light of Wisdom understand?" Viscount Walder leaned to the side and chuckled.
"Hmm," Phil Gray responded casually, focusing intently on the contents of the diary.
"February 2, 3021 of the New Divine Calendar, sunny, calm sea."
Today, I saw the beautiful Miss Daisy. She praised my cooking, and the feeling of being completely drained miraculously disappeared. I only felt happy. Perhaps the goddess of harvest bestows divine power upon us so that delicious food can be enjoyed by our loved ones.
March 2, 3021 (New Divine Calendar), overcast, with turbulent waves on the sea.
It's been raining for ages, and the wind and waves haven't stopped. This is the first rain since spring arrived. The weather god and the sea goddess really chose a good day. I was supposed to go ashore to attend Miss Daisy's birthday party, but now I can't go. Oh well!
But even without a storm, can I leave the ship?
April 2, 3021 (New Divine Calendar), sunny, calm sea.
It's been so long since I've seen Miss Daisy. I wonder if she'll ever ride the Blacktooth Shark again? But I hope she never boards that ship again; the captain will make his move sooner or later! Beautiful Miss Daisy, may you never fall into his clutches!
...
Phil Gray read it aloud slowly. This man named Tang seemed to be a young man who wrote a diary entry on the 2nd of every month, expressing his secret crush on a former passenger on the ship named Miss Daisy.
For the next two years, he continued to cook on the ship, and his diary recorded some trivial matters on the ship, as well as the captain's harsh criticism and beatings.
Things changed a year ago when the nobles of the Kingdom of Sealand were embarking on an ocean voyage and specifically hired the renowned Blacktooth Shark, with Captain Jeremy in charge of their journey.
"I really didn't expect that the nobles in Lancy would be so stupid as to choose jackals to guard their flock. Jeremy, after this job, will he never have to drift at sea again? Poor Miss Daisy, she and her brother even joined this journey!"
"I will protect her, and those other nobles who courted death will pay the price for their choices! Goddess of Harvest, grant me more divine power, for I will treat my beautiful Miss Daisy to even more delicious food!"
Phil Gray turned a few more pages and read aloud: Tang's diary entries had increased significantly last year, with entries made almost every day.
Eli feigned thought, "It sounds like Captain Jeremy is planning to harm these aristocratic passengers aboard the Blacktooth Shark?"
"Judging from Tang's words, it seems so, but what will Jeremy do? And where exactly is this ship headed?"
Phil Gray continued reading, trying to find new clues.
“My lord? We found some bones in the room, they look… they look like human bones.” A dry voice suddenly came from behind him. Phil Gray turned around and saw a middle-aged man speaking to Viscount Ward.
The middle-aged man was wearing a simple blue short-sleeved shirt, his body was somewhat hunched, and he looked a little timid.
“Is that so?” Viscount Walder thought for a moment, then turned his tall, thin body toward the guest room. “Take me to see it. You can continue studying the diary here. I’ll go look for other clues.”
Phil Gray nodded and lowered his head to continue reading his diary.
"January 2, 3023 (Gregorian calendar), sunny, calm sea."
They've been on board for almost two weeks now, and we're getting closer and closer to the captain's destination. I'm really worried, and I think I need to tell Miss Daisy as soon as possible.
Should he tell her about the captain's plot? But if he only tells her, how will the cook, Don, manage to get Miss Daisy out of the vast ocean?
Phil Gray was filled with questions.
