Chapter 184 The Real Plan

Eli, puzzled, stored the petals in his spatial storage, then winked at Ernest and walked out of the courtyard.

Phil Gray watched Valcke Dodd leave late into the night.

The Knight of Fate walked briskly, a smug look on his face, seemingly quite satisfied with this "conspiracy".

Gerald, the butler who was waiting nearby, saw the guests out of the mansion before locking the gate. He then quietly instructed the servants waiting in the courtyard to go and rest, and had someone bring them evening tea and refreshments.

"How is it?" Eli asked hastily as he sat down in the empty seat.

“I didn’t expect this guy to be so ambitious. Even if I didn’t deliberately instigate him, it was only a matter of time before he clashed with Wendell.” Phil Gray smiled and took a sip of the tea on the table.

"Ha, these despicable fellows, they probably already think no of God, don't they? Framed the Pope, deceived believers, and used the entire church as a bargaining chip to gain power, how laughable!" Eli said with a sneer, his emerald eyes revealing a mocking look.

“But the Knight Commander is truly a ‘good helper’ for us, at least allowing us to understand the current situation within Destiny while we are far away in the Eastern Continent.” Phil Gray took out a piece of white paper from the table and then wrote down his own name, Wendell’s name, and Valk Dodd’s name in turn.

“Currently, the Gray family and Bishop Dominic still support me. The Gray family has two figures of divine revelation level, my uncle and an elderly elder, and Bishop Dominic is also of divine revelation level,” Phil Gray quickly wrote a few strokes below his name, then continued, “We also have two divine revelation level followers on our side, you and Mr. Ghost…”

"Huh? Then I'll practice my new skill intensively these next few days, so I don't hold you back later." Eli felt the sudden pressure. As the only high-level familiar among the three, he couldn't just coast along like this anymore.

“Yes, the attack power of the Death's Chosen One should not be underestimated. We must master it well. As for Wendell, he currently has the support of the Holmes family, the Fortes family, and another Bishop Black. Some neutral small families have also turned to him under his coercion and enticement, which is why he broke our previous agreement.”

Phil Gray stopped writing; the string of words under Wendell's name revealed the thorny issue of their return to the Church of Destiny.

"If we return to Valk Dodd and find out I deceived him, he will definitely join forces with Wendell to deal with us. I just hope we can weaken some of their forces before that happens..."

“Actually, if we ask for the help of a Dawn-level elder, we might be able to turn this disadvantageous situation around? After all, the entire Church of Destiny doesn’t have a single Dawn-level chosen one.” Eli glanced at Phil Gray and added, “Of course, I don’t mean to belittle Destiny, I’m just making a factual analysis.”

“I know, but I'm afraid the elders of Dawn won’t help us. His Holiness the Pope of Dawn is determined to free me from fate and allow me to focus on being the Holy Son of Dawn here. Otherwise, he would have offered to help us the moment we met.” Phil Gray shook his head.

"Furthermore, as the current leading sect in Wel, Dawn has already aroused the suspicion of many churches. If there are signs of Dawn's chosen ones participating in the internal strife within the Church of Destiny, it will cause even more controversy. Therefore, no elder will help us unless..."

“Unless what?” Eli asked curiously.

"Unless fate is not only in internal strife, but also corrupted by an evil cult."

"Huh? Under this pretext..."

“No, Valk Dodd just told me that Wendell has actually been colluding with the Plague Creators for a long time.” Phil Gray slammed down his cup, a cold smile playing on his lips. “In order to get Dawn’s explicit support, the Knight Commander will naturally take the initiative to expose the scandal of the ‘future Pope.’ He said that Wendell has been colluding with the Plague Creators for a long time, and that he and the Plague Creators plotted several times to kill the reigning Pope of Fate.”

"Yes, you told me that you were first poisoned, and then attacked by a plague-controller holding a child."

“Yes, and although the Church of Destiny responded to the Dawn Alliance immediately, it was just for show. Even before coming to Dawn, Valk Dodd saw Wendell and the Plague Controller meeting privately. When the time is right, he will take the initiative to expose Wendell's collusion with those evil sects to the Pope of Dawn and ask for Dawn's help. At that time, I will try to ask to go with him,” Phil Gray said.

"I see, that's a good opportunity..."

"Indeed, Valcke Dodd has a good plan. He also wants to win the support of believers in the name of eliminating Wendell, this traitor who colluded with the cult, and saving the Church of Destiny, so as to take the opportunity to ascend to the papacy."

Eli chuckled dismissively, "Too bad he didn't expect that the person he went to so much trouble to invite wasn't some kind of outside help."

Phil Gray sighed. "The timing seems to be in our favor, but our strength is still insufficient, and there are too many variables. Who will win and who will lose is really unknown. Moreover, if we regain the papacy, we even have to worry about what the Pope of Dawn might do if he knows that I am a Chosen One."

“Fate will be on your side, won’t it?” Eli raised an eyebrow and placed a flower of destiny on the table.

"Huh? What's this?"

"It was discovered at the door while you were talking."

“Did someone just come to visit?” Phil Gray frowned.

"I asked the servants at the mansion gate, and they said that Miss Melody came in a hurry, as if she had something important to tell you. She probably saw that you were entertaining guests and it was inconvenient to disturb you, so she left."

“What?” Phil Gray recalled the situation and hoped she hadn’t heard anything that might cause a misunderstanding.

"It only took a few blinks of an eye. Before the servant could even report to the steward, she rushed out of the mansion again. She probably didn't hear anything important." Eli shrugged. "If all else fails, we can try to explain?"

"That's the only way. I'll ask her what she wants from me at the Dawn Alliance banquet tomorrow night, and find out more." Phil Gray rubbed his head and sighed, looking quite troubled.

I certainly wouldn't hear their plans during that time, and Miss Melody probably wouldn't be interested in the inner workings of Fate.

"Well, get some rest." Eli and Ernest said goodnight to him and made way for the maids who came in to prepare hot water and make the bed.

Phil Gray drifted off to sleep in the soft bed.

He was awakened by a commotion and Eli's urgent knocking: "Boss, wake up, something's happened!"
