The men in black naturally noticed their arrival. One of them chanted a strange whisper, and instantly yellow-green smoke filled the air, accompanied by the mournful cawing of crows. Everyone present felt a sense of disorientation.
I suddenly felt mentally exhausted, as if I had worked all day or had just recovered from a serious illness, and I had no energy left.
"Three Divine Prophecy level?" Morris narrowed his eyes. Among these dozens of men in black, three were actually Divine Prophecy level. The skill they used together had such a wide effect.
The golden staff in his hand gently circled in the shape of a sun, and golden ripples spread out from him, dispelling the yellowish-green smoke.
"It's all an illusion after all!"
He charged forward with a sudden burst of speed, and the Dawn Knights behind him formed a skilled pentagram battle formation. Their swords and armor gleamed with golden light in the sunlight, creating a giant phantom of the sun.
The men in black engaged them in battle, the three divine beings fighting fiercely with Morris and the Knights of Dawn.
Melody, Phil Gray, and others, who had recovered from their weakened state, also stepped forward to help fight the other men in black.
"These people are really good at releasing poison!" Tracy squatted pitifully on the ground. As the only one below the level of the "Focus" level, he was almost powerless against the endless poisonous mist. Red spots would appear on his face one moment, and his skin would turn pale the next. If it weren't for Eli, the "Focus" of life, occasionally throwing him some antidote petals, he would have died young.
“It’s almost over!” Phil Gray whispered.
These men in black were favored by the gods of disease or plague, and were very good at secretly poisoning, but their individual combat abilities were not very good. The three divine-level favored were trapped in the golden cage summoned by Morris, and the flames that ignited from the soles of their feet scorched their skin red.
“Even such punishment is not even a fraction of the suffering endured by the people of my city,” Maurice said in a deep voice, filled with anger.
The outcome seems to be decided.
However, at that very moment, all the men in black present suddenly began to convulse, blood seeping from their pores, their entire bodies almost melting into blood. Meanwhile, the three divine beings trapped in the golden cage revealed smiles of relief, chanting in unison:
"Pain and death are what we seek. May the great xx enjoy these bodies and souls tainted by plague and calamity..."
The voice at xx was extremely indistinct and did not sound like the name of a deity they had heard before.
The blood of these men in black spontaneously converged on the strange symbols on the ground, and the eerie formation was being completed at an extremely fast speed.
"Oh no! What should we do?" Melody exclaimed.
"To dispel the plague from the residents, this magic circle cannot sacrifice healthy and whole lives and souls!" Morris said, but his aged face was full of despair. In such an emergency, how could he quickly dispel the plague from the city's residents and save the souls of those who died from the plague?
Steven, Steven, why are you so slow? It's just to find an Elder of Life, and you still haven't arrived after half a day!
He had forgotten that most of the followers of the Church of Life were not on the same continent as them, let alone the elders of the church. Searching for them here was like looking for a needle in a haystack!
At this tense moment, those protecting the Holy Son stepped forward.
"I'll give it a try."
Eli spoke up, saying that as the only chosen one of the gods of life present, he was the only one with the ability to dispel disease.
"You? Although I'm very grateful that you just saved me, you're at most a prominent figure, right? This is the whole city!" Tracy pouted, filled with regret. He shouldn't have gone to Dawn School, nor should he have come to find his uncle. He really wanted to go back to the countryside and pick flowers and fruits with his mother in the fields.
"Hmph, you annoying guy, well then, let me show you!"
Eli smiled slightly, and a black flower appeared in his hand. The flower was full of a rich life force, but the flower itself looked somewhat sinister. These two qualities of life and death were perfectly blended together.
"It's my first time trying it, I don't know how it tastes." After swallowing the flower petal, he closed his eyes:
"The Fountain of Life!"
The green life force spread out, sweeping across the entire city with an unstoppable momentum. This was not the kind of divine power that a mere follower could release; its power was close to that of a god descending to godhood!
"How is this possible?" Everyone's eyes were filled with disbelief.
"Eli?"
Phil Gray had a vague sense of foreboding; possessing great power inevitably comes at a heavy price.
"I can only heal their bodies; their souls still depend on you!" Eli chuckled, though his voice was weak, and life force continued to emanate from his body.
Souls. Phil Gray pursed his lips. After arriving in Numas City, he sensed the presence of the dead and saw the souls of the residents who had died completely. However, the souls of those residents had the same flesh and blood ties as those on the statues, like umbilical cords, spreading from their souls to unknown places. This must be the pollution mentioned in the prophecy of the god of death.
But how do we purify it?
He was extremely anxious. What should he do? He couldn't afford to mess things up.
Try this!
Phil Gray had a flash of inspiration. He manipulated the flames of the sun and burned them directly at the flesh-and-blood ties to their souls, and it actually worked!
If the dead do not reveal themselves, only those favored by the god of death can see them. To others, it appears as if His Highness the Holy Son is setting fire to the sky.
Of course, with their divinely favored perception, they could sense the presence of the dead and knew that the Holy Son was purifying those souls.
“We can’t even help…” Hodgson said dejectedly, and the others also felt a sense of helplessness.
Eli's life force was so intense that the zombie's gray skin, which had been soaked in the aura, gradually returned to its normal color, and its stiff joints gradually became flexible.
Nourished by this vitality, tender shoots sprouted from the cracked brick and stone ground in the city. The strange symbols and formations were covered by the growing leaves and grass, and the dark-colored blood became the nutrients for these plants.
"The formation is gone! That's great!"
Melody cheered as she looked at the residents who were recovering and would soon be indistinguishable from normal people.
Phil Gray was still working hard to purify the corrupted undead, but fortunately the Death Stone replenished his divine power, preventing him from exhausting himself.
There weren't many undead left to be purified. He thought to himself, "Just a little more effort." But when he turned around, he saw Eli's withered face.
With a sudden surge of energy, I forgot all my fatigue and accelerated the purification process.
"Ahem." Eli glanced back at him and coughed. "It'll be ready soon!"
The tender shoots that broke through the soil grew at an extremely fast pace, their leaves unfurled, and even adorable flower buds appeared.
"They've recovered!" Tracy exclaimed in surprise.
"Yes, that's great!" Morris and Hodgson exclaimed excitedly as they looked at the familiar faces.
They cheered and rejoiced as the severed limbs miraculously grew back and the wounds and pain were healed. Although the dead could not be brought back to life, the living were filled with hope!
They actually managed to save this dying city!
Phil Gray breathed a sigh of relief and waved to all the purified souls. They made their choices and headed towards the Kingdom of Life.
"Thank you. For now, you'll have to protect the boss for a while," Eli said weakly, his body catching Ernest as he collapsed.
Ernest frowned, sensing his partner's life force rapidly dissipating—it was his own life force.
Suddenly, a golden and dreamlike light enveloped the entire city.
“Oh, do you see that? It’s a golden butterfly flower. So that’s the flower of hope. I’ve actually found it one day… Growing in hope, no wonder I’ve never seen a shadow…” Eli exclaimed with his last bit of strength, pointing to the streets of the city.
As they looked, under the bright sunlight, the newly sprouted flower buds in the city were blooming one after another, their golden petals so dazzling and beautiful, like butterflies about to take flight.
