"Although you two are newcomers who have directly participated in our papal selection, you cannot be denied the treatment due to a Holy Son. I have had two residences prepared for you, and Sir Bazel will take you there in a moment. After the selection ceremony, a grand welcome banquet will be held for you. Even if you do not become Popes, you will certainly have a seat among the elders in the future." The archbishop patted Phil Gray and Eli on the shoulder in turn and said with a smile.
"Thank you, Archbishop."
"It's such a pleasant surprise to have property in the Church of the Dead so quickly," Phil Gray thought with a smile.
Although Eli didn't care about these things, he still hummed in response, expressing his gratitude to the archbishop.
Knowing what happened back then, the Second Elder secretly observed Eli, his eyes unfathomable. Like the First Elder, he did not join in the investigation of the two new Holy Sons.
As night fell, the elders finally returned home, their excitement exhausted. Little did they know that the information they had obtained about the two new holy sons was nothing but an illusion, filled with falsehoods and lies.
As they left the church, Phil Gray breathed a sigh of relief. "We've accomplished half of our goal. Now all we have to do is successfully complete the remaining two rounds of selection and get the highest score."
Eli clicked his tongue. "No need to worry about that. You were already leading by so many points in the first round. Didn't you see that Marshall guy's face turn from white to green?"
"Haha, that's hilarious."
Before Phil Gray could answer, he heard the voice of the Holy Son, Elijah, who had followed behind him.
What are you doing following us? Trying to hitch a ride again?
The two turned their heads, and Yi Lai Zhe rolled his eyes. "Do you think I want to follow you? This is Knight Bazel. The Archbishop has asked us to take you two to Right Finger Bone Street. There is a mansion there that will be given to you."
Knight Bazel wore black armor, obscuring his face. He was incredibly tall and possessed immense divine strength, seemingly a powerful undead knight.
He cupped his hands in greeting and said respectfully, "It is an honor to meet you two holy sons."
"Hello, Knight Bazel, thank you for your hard work," Phil Gray said with a smile.
Yi Lai Zhe snorted, "Pretending."
"If you can't speak properly, then shut up." Eli made a gesture of sealing his mouth.
After walking for a while, I heard Yi Lai Zhe ask from behind in his somewhat unpleasant voice:
"Wait, I was just about to ask you, why are you carrying a black cat?"
While the night was still asleep, Eli carried it on his back the entire time, except when he put it down during the first round of selections.
"I do what I want, so what?"
Eli turned his head. "Speaking of which, I've been wondering why you're carrying so many dead souls with you."
Upon hearing this, Phil Gray also perked up his ears.
"Oh, you're bothering me too? I'm happy to." Yi Lai Zhe grinned.
"Tch." Eli crossed his arms and ignored him.
The two argued and bickered along the way, attracting the attention of many passersby, which made Phil Gray feel somewhat embarrassed.
Finally, led by Knight Bazel, they arrived at the so-called Right Finger Bone Street.
The core area of Gilga City was built in the shape of a skull, and according to the skeleton of the skull, it was divided into many intricate streets.
The magnificent cathedral they had just been in was located at the heart of the giant skeleton, and their current position was right at the right finger of the skeleton, hence the name "Right Finger Bone Street".
Looking around, you can see several three-story buildings, all of which are snow-white, giving them a gloomy and cold feel. Moreover, each building is carefully planted with bright red roses, as vibrant as blood, which contrast sharply with the surrounding environment, making them both elegant and dignified.
The color scheme is rather strange, making one unconsciously think of brains and blood, but it makes sense, after all, this is the Church of the Dead.
"The second and third buildings are your residences. These are church property, and our church's high-ranking officials live around here. You two can go in and take a look first. If there is anything you are not satisfied with, I will pass it on to the archbishop," said Knight Bazel.
Phil Gray and Eli first entered the second small building, which was simply and elegantly decorated, fully furnished, and had a small garden at the back.
The other small building was roughly the same.
"It looks pretty good." Eli looked around.
“Thank you for the arrangements, Archbishop.” Phil Gray nodded in satisfaction.
“That’s good. I’ve already recruited servants for the two holy sons, and they will arrive tomorrow. Please make yourselves out for dinner in the area tonight,” Knight Bazel said apologetically.
"Okay, thank you very much."
After Bazel left, the uninvited guest, Yilai Zhe, was in no hurry to leave. The ghosts behind him surged in, filling the entire small building.
"What? You want to freeload off my room?" Eli asked rudely.
"How did you know?" Yi Lai Zhe sat down on the sofa on the first floor, surrounded by his ghosts, looking like he was determined to stay there.
“Alright, Holy Son Yilai, let bygones be bygones! Hmm… Regarding your sale of Elder Dawn's remains to someone else, I've decided not to pursue the matter further. At the same time, I hope you can forgive my reporting your actions on the Grand List. After all, we will still need to serve the Church of the Dead together in the future. If we continue to be at odds, it will not only harm our respective interests but also be detrimental to the development and stability of the entire Church.” Phil Gray said helplessly, rubbing his forehead.
I've figured out this holy son's purpose; he doesn't mean to antagonize them, he just wants to cause them some trouble.
Yi Lai Zhe raised an eyebrow, pretending to think: "It's not impossible, but I have one small condition."
"Don't push your luck." Eli's eyes were smiling, but a dangerous glint flashed in them.
"I want to stay here. Give me a room in this building or another building," Yi Lai Zhe said imperiously.
"Oh wow, so you really are just here to freeload off my room." Eli's eyes widened.
“My residence is under renovation, so I’ll be staying here for the time being,” Yi Lai Zhe coughed. “We’ve made up, so we’re friends now. It’s not unreasonable for me to stay at a friend’s house for a while, is it?”
“You…” Eli was about to say something when Phil Gray interrupted him.
“Alright, let him stay. It’s just one room.” Phil Gray looked at Ilya. “But don’t get any bad ideas.”
Yi Lai Zhe smiled and said, "Don't worry, I just want to live closer to you. Besides, I'm not interested in the papacy, and I don't consider you my rivals."
Phil Gray and Eli exchanged a glance and sighed helplessly.
"Alright, we're going out to eat now. You can choose whichever room you want to stay in."
Phil Gray casually remarked, but then heard Yi Lai Zhe immediately stand up: "Where should we eat? I know the restaurants around here very well, shall I show you around?"
Eli glanced at him: "Don't even think about it. I suspect you're planning to freeload."
