574. Chapter 567: Telepathy

Chapter 567: Telepathy

In the small town of Lavaise, Camille has been unable to sleep or eat well recently.

Although there was good news everywhere about Charles' victory, and she had also read the relevant news in the newspaper, she even sighed like her neighbors: "How did he come up with the idea of using the Somme River to bypass the Germans?"

Camille wasn't interested, and never was.

But as long as it was related to Ciel, she wanted to know, as if there was some magic pulling her to understand, as if only this could make her feel more at ease.

However, the opposite was true. The more she knew, the more anxious she became.

"God, that's the Somme," Camille complained to Djokovic:

"How could they let Charles go to a place like that? Charles has been in Belgium the whole time and he just finished a war!"

"I heard that the British lost 100,000 men that day, and the French suffered 40,000 casualties that day."

"It's too dangerous there. They can't expect Ciel to handle everything. He's only 18!"

Djokovic looked at Camille in disbelief: "But we all know that Charles defeated the Germans there. He has won, Camille."

"That's now," Camille retorted. "The Battle of the Somme isn't over yet, is it? So the danger still exists!"

Djoka was speechless, what Camille said seemed to make sense.

But on second thought, as long as Charles is in the army and as long as the war goes on, the danger will always exist, regardless of whether Charles is in the Somme or not.

But Djokovic didn't say anything.

He understood that a mother who was worried about her child would never let go of her anxiety unless Charles stood in front of her.

At around four in the morning, a blurry car light suddenly flashed across the dark town, and the sound of a few dogs barking could be heard faintly amid the sound of rain.

Camille suddenly woke up, she sat up from the bed and listened carefully to the movement outside the window.

"What happened?" Djokovic, who was woken up, turned over and asked in a daze.

"Someone is coming." Camille replied: "It's the sound of a car!"

"Come on, Camille," Djokovic complained. "You're too nervous. You're a little neurotic."

But the next second, the noise of a car engine sounded downstairs.

Camille quickly stood up and stood by the window, lifting a corner of the curtain.

Deyoka covered his head helplessly: "Do you have to get up and look at every car that passes by? That can't be Charles, Camille, he is still in the Somme River, now the commander of the 6th Army, he commands more than 200,000 people, it is impossible for him to abandon his troops and come back at any time!"

But Camille screamed: "Laurent's car, it's Charles, Dejoka, it's Charles!"

As she said this she rushed downstairs excitedly, and soon returned like crazy to get an umbrella and ran away again. A burst of rapid "bang bang" sounds came from the wooden corridor.

Djokovic couldn't believe it. Could this be telepathy? Could Camille sense Charles?

He stood up and walked to the window half-believingly, just in time to see Camille in pajamas holding an umbrella and welcoming Charles out of the car downstairs.

Djokovic shrugged his shoulders and could only accept her guess.

After Charles came back, he didn't even take a shower. He just chatted briefly with Djokovic and Camille, then went into the house and fell asleep on the bed.

He had slept for several hours on the train, but for some reason sleeping on a train always made him feel tired even though he was asleep.

But it was still much better than sleeping in the trenches.

It was not until around five o'clock the next afternoon that Charles woke up in a daze.

He looked around his room and found that this familiar yet unfamiliar environment was very clean. Only he himself looked out of place because he was dirty. There was mud on his trouser legs and cuffs, which had become stiff due to being dried.

Ciel took some time to take a shower and change into clean clothes, and found that his legs were weak from hunger.

All in all, I haven't eaten or drunk water for more than twenty hours. I also have a headache and a stuffy nose, as if I'm about to catch a cold.

Charles frowned. Perhaps he had overdrawn his physical strength on the battlefield. Once he returned to the comfortable environment and relaxed, he became unusually fragile.

When going downstairs, Charles was surprised to see both Djokovic and Camille there. They were sitting on the sofa and discussing something in a low voice.

Seeing Charles coming down, Camille stood up and gave him a hug, and then lovingly stroked Charles's hair, which was still wet: "You must be hungry, dinner is ready!"

"I heard you have a week's vacation?" Djokovic stood up and sat at the dining table.

"Yes." Charles sat down, "But now a day has passed."

"Many people are curious about your battle on the Somme," said Dejoka, smiling with pride. "They never thought that you would use the navy's landing craft and amphibious landing ships on the Somme."

Camille served the steaming apple pizza and took the knife to cut it carefully. "The key point is the Somme River. Originally everyone was wondering how our Charles would break through the Germans' impenetrable defense, but he ended up using the river."

As he said this, he handed a piece of pizza to Ciel.

As Ciel took the pizza, she gave Camille a surprised look, which was not something she would say.

Deyoka understood Charles' expression. He smiled and said, "Don't doubt it. Camille has been reading newspapers and has learned a lot of military knowledge."

"How did you come up with that?" Camille asked, her eyes sparkling, and she realized that the person she admired most was her son.

Charles chewed his food and answered vaguely: "It's actually very simple. If you can't think of a suitable solution, there may only be one result..."

Charles suddenly realized that he had let the cat out of the bag, so he stopped talking and quickly glanced at Camille.

He paused and covered himself again: "I mean, it might cause a lot of casualties. In order to avoid that, I can only do everything I can."

Camille sat back in her chair and nodded slightly to show her understanding. She pretended not to understand the original meaning and tried to keep smiling, but there was a bit of heaviness in her smile.

Djokovic changed the subject and asked Charles, "It seemed like we had an agreement when you came back last time."

"Really?" Charles pretended to be confused.

He actually always remembered what Camille had told him: "Be sure to bring her with you next time you come. I know her name is Lucia."

Camille raised his eyebrows, took a slice of pizza and ate it leisurely, pretending to be indifferent: "I know she works at the Officers Club. Tell me, if we ask Major Laurent to pick her up, will she be willing?"

"No, Mom..." Charles was a little anxious.

Deyoka replied: "Major Laurent said that if it really doesn't work, Lieutenant Colonel Fernand can come forward. Lieutenant Colonel Fernand is familiar with her."

Laurent is such a bastard, Charles cursed inwardly, he knew this guy was unreliable!

"Choose one." Camille stared at Charles: "Do you want to tell her or..."

"I'll tell her." Charles answered desperately. What else could he do?
