Chapter 466: Such a thing actually happened

Chapter 460: Such a thing actually happened

Ghent train station.

The air was filled with the stench of burning coal. Passengers were moving among the crowd, some queuing for ticket checking, some dragging heavy luggage. There were men, women, young and old, all with excitement and excitement about their journey home written all over their faces. Some even raised their hands and cheered as soon as they got off the train.

They were people who fled Ghent before the Germans took the city.

They thought they might never be able to return to their hometown in this lifetime, but one day when they opened their eyes, they suddenly heard that the Germans had surrendered and Charles had regained the land.

So, they can return to the place they miss so much.

(The picture above shows Ghent Railway Station, the third largest railway station in Belgium)

Lucia carried her suitcase out of the train station with great effort. She stood at the door for a while with a tired look on her face, then closed her eyes slightly and took a deep breath. A smile and anticipation appeared on her face, and then she unconsciously quickened her pace and walked towards the taxi parked at the door.

Lucia took a leave to come back. Although the journey of more than 300 kilometers is not far, it takes more than ten hours for a poor person who can only take the train.

Even so, Lucia decided to make the trip.

After all, she and her family were lucky enough to be reunited and alive again as Belgians on Belgian soil.

The taxi stopped at Feldstra Street and Lucia got out with her suitcase. Before she could stand firmly, several people screamed and rushed out from the Gothic-style house on the side of the road.

Lucia hugged them excitedly, tears welling up in her eyes, and she kept shouting, "Mom, Dad, it's so good to see you. And Stein, you've grown up!"

Lucia reached out to touch her brother's head lovingly as usual, but was blocked by Stein.

"Hey, Lucia." Stein protested, "Like you said, I'm grown up, not a child anymore!"

Lucia looked confused: "But you're only seventeen, Stein!"

"Ignore him." Mrs. Girard wiped her tears and cried with joy. She explained as she took Lucia into the house: "He is now thinking about Charles and only wants to follow Charles as an example."

Lucia paused unconsciously.

Mrs. Girard asked puzzledly, "What's wrong?"

"No, no, it's nothing." Lucia realized that she had lost her composure and quickly forced a smile: "Charles is a very good role model."

Stein became excited instantly: "See, Lucia also supports me..."

Mr. Girard, who was carrying Lucia's luggage in the back, interrupted Stein: "Charles is indeed a very good role model, no one denies that. But I didn't ask you to lie about your age to sign up for the army."

Lucia turned to look at Stein in surprise: "You lied about your age to join the army? Are you crazy?"

"Charles joined the army when he was 17," Stein replied unconvincedly, "He's only 18 now, but he's already a brigadier general."

"But he's a genius, Stein," Lucia said. "You can't expect to be like him..."

Stein interrupted Lucia without hesitation: "If I don't try, how do I know I'm not a genius?"

Lucia was speechless and looked to her mother for help.

Mrs. Girard shrugged. She had told him several times, but she still couldn't do anything about him.

After entering the house, Lucia and Mr. Girard quickly formed a united front to deal with the "obstinate" Stein. Mrs. Girard went out to buy groceries, and she planned to make Lucia's favorite pan-fried longli fish.

Although wallets are tight at the moment, Mrs Gillard sees it as a day worth celebrating.

When I was coming back with the basket after buying groceries, I met my neighbor Mrs. Flix who was also carrying a basket.

"Mrs. Girard!" Mrs. Felix greeted with a smile and bowed respectfully.

This surprised Mrs. Girard. They usually had some conflicts and disliked each other, but today they unexpectedly showed such courtesy.

Mrs. Girard snorted and ignored her. She must be pretending.

Mrs. Felix seemed to have noticed the fish in Mrs. Girard's basket, and followed her a few steps behind and asked attentively, "Are there any extra dishes today, Mrs. Girard?"

Don't hit a smiling person, Mrs. Girard could only nod: "Yes, Lucia is back."

She thought she could get rid of him this way, but unexpectedly, Mrs. Felix exclaimed: "Oh my God, Lucia is back, then...what about Charles? Is he here too?"

"What?" Mrs. Girard stopped and looked at Mrs. Felix in confusion: "Charles? Why is Charles here? Are you kidding?"

"No, of course not." Mrs. Felix smiled apologetically: "This is a misunderstanding, Mrs. Girard, I, I just thought Charles would..."

Then Mrs. Felix suddenly realized something: "You don't know yet? God, I said too much, I... I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, Mrs. Girard!"

With that, Mrs. Felix turned and walked away.

Mrs. Girard would never let her go. She chased after her and stopped her, asking, "What don't I know? Or are you planning to play some tricks?"

"No, no." Mrs. Felix was flustered: "Please forgive me, Mrs. Girard, I, I hope you can forgive me for my rudeness to you before, sincerely!"

Mrs. Girard became more and more confused. She looked at Mrs. Felix and thought that she did not seem to be pretending, especially since she was almost crying and there was fear in her eyes.

Mrs. Girard hesitated for a moment, then said, "I won't forgive you unless you tell me why, Mrs. Felix."

"Really?" Mrs. Felix's eyes lit up: "Are you really willing to forgive me?"

Mrs. Girard nodded affirmatively: "Of course it's true, I keep my word."

Mrs. Felix breathed a sigh of relief, and then she said hesitantly:

"This may be a secret, ma'am. I'm not sure I can tell you, but..."

Looking at Mrs. Girard's determined eyes, Mrs. Felix could only muster up the courage to answer: "It's Lucia, she is Charles' girlfriend, and they are dating."

Mrs. Girard was stunned for a moment, then she started laughing: "Are you crazy? Charles and Lucia are dating? God, you must be teasing me again!"

"It's true, ma'am." Mrs. Felix hastened to declare: "Proto came back yesterday. He also works in Paris. He said that everyone in Paris knows that he is proud of Lucia!"

Mrs. Girard's smile gradually froze on her face. She recalled the strange expression and subconscious movements on Lucia's face when she mentioned "Charles" just now, and gradually believed that this was true.

"God, how could this happen!" Mrs. Girard paused for a few seconds, then ran towards home like crazy.
