Chapter 1: Roommate Sisters

Standing by the window on the 24th floor of the apartment, the scene below is laid out before you.

Zhang Lin felt a chill run through his body.

Zombies!

The once bustling subway entrance is now completely overrun by zombies. They are agile, have keen senses, and are incredibly infectious. Once you touch them, even if you are not completely devoured, you will be infected and turned into a zombie.

"I just got a cheat code!!"

He couldn't help but curse.

As a struggling office worker who was born an orphan, he couldn't afford a car or a house, and he couldn't afford the bride price. His girlfriend of more than a year was forced to break up with him by her mother...

This morning, Zhang Lin had just woken up when he heard a pleasant sound.

"Family Prosperity System successfully bound..."

Then came a long introduction, the gist of which was that he needed to develop his own family, get married and have children, and the more prosperous the family was, the richer the rewards the system would give.

Zhang Lin was so excited that he almost slapped himself twice.

Sure enough, I'm destined to be the protagonist.

He was an orphan, and his girlfriend broke up with him.

These are all prerequisites; once you meet them, the cheat code will appear.

However, before Zhang Lin could complete the system's first task of getting married, he was nearly killed by a zombie as soon as he opened the door in the morning.

Fortunately, he reacted quickly and closed the door in time, blocking the zombie outside. His two roommates also heard the commotion and together they brought over the refrigerator and wardrobe to block the door before standing by the window to observe the situation downstairs.

Upon closer inspection, Zhang Lin discovered that there were virtually no living people in his field of vision; instead, only zombies roaming around.

Occasionally, there are those living people who, for reasons unknown, still dare to come out, and they almost always become food for the zombies.

After a while, these zombies' food will stand up again, with little meat left hanging on the skeletons, becoming part of the zombie army.

Zhang Lin was truly on the verge of tears.

This is just too unlucky.

"Brother Lin, what's the situation outside?" The girl who shared the apartment with him came over. She was the younger of the sisters, still in school. She had just been terrified by the zombies and hadn't recovered yet; her face was deathly pale.

"Xiao Wu, take a look for yourself." Zhang Lin gave up his seat so she could see for herself.

The girl leaned closer to the window and looked down. After just one glance, she was so frightened that she took two steps back, her chest heaving. "How...how could this be?"

At that moment, my older sister also came out of the room. "I looked over the other side, and it was the same—it was full of zombies!"

Both sisters looked at Zhang Lin, as if asking him what to do.

Zhang Lin's roommates are two sisters, the older sister is named An Qingge and the younger sister is named An Qingwu. The younger sister studies at a nearby music academy, and the older sister works nearby and is Zhang Lin's colleague.

The apartment was originally rented by the two sisters; it was a two-bedroom unit, with each sister having her own room. After renting it for a while, they felt the rent was too much of a burden. Just then, the older sister heard that Zhang Lin was looking for a place, so she decided to give up one of her rooms so that Zhang Lin could move in and share the rent. She and her younger sister would live together.

Zhang Lin didn't interact with them much on a regular basis because they were too beautiful. The sisters were all stunning beauties, and Zhang Lin was penniless. He knew there was no possibility of getting along with them, and they wouldn't have anything in common to talk about as friends, so he simply stopped communicating with them.

As for them, they went to school or work on weekdays, surrounded by men who fawned over them, and they had nothing to say to Zhang Lin.

But things are different now. There are zombies everywhere outside the door, and the two weak women seem to have Zhang Lin as their pillar of support.

“There’s no good way out. We can’t even get out of the room.” Zhang Lin shook his head slightly. “The only thing we can do is stay in the room and wait for rescue.”

"Given the current situation, is there really any hope of rescue?" An Qingwu, being young, was already completely lost. Her already fair face was now even more bloodless, and her expression was blank and hopeless.

An Qingge, the older sister, wasn't in much better shape either. Standing by the window on the 24th floor, all she could see were zombies. She couldn't even be sure how many survivors were in the vicinity...

Zhang Lin was no longer as panicked as before; he suddenly realized something.

The system says it will give rewards for getting married and having children, which makes sense, but before getting married and having children, the system is completely useless.

Before the apocalypse, his monthly salary was 5,500. After deducting various expenses such as food, clothing, housing and transportation, he would only have a little over 1,000 left. How the hell would he be able to afford to get married?

On the contrary, if the apocalypse really comes and order is lost, wouldn't it be much easier to get married now?

Movies, TV series, and post-apocalyptic novels have depicted this scene: after the apocalypse, no dowry, no hardware, no car or house, all you need is a loaf of bread to get a wife.

So, the end times actually benefited Zhang Lin.

Zhang Lin glanced at the two sisters who looked completely lost. He felt that he was really lucky to be sharing an apartment with two sisters. If he handled things well, he could get two system rewards without even leaving the house.

Perhaps this is the capital to survive in the apocalypse.

After calming the An sisters down, Zhang Lin told them to go back to their rooms and stay put while waiting for rescue. He then returned to his own room and began to take stock of the food supplies.

He usually has a habit of stocking up on things, such as whole wheat bread, oatmeal, and ready-to-eat chicken breast.

Because he sits for long periods of time and has a bit of a belly, he wanted to lose the fat on his stomach, so he stocked up on these low-fat meal replacement foods.

After taking a quick look, Zhang Lin estimated that if he ate these things sparingly, they could probably last for four or five days.

"System, what are the criteria for getting married?" Zhang Lin lay on the bed, conserving his energy, and communicated with the system in his mind: "Do I need to hold a wedding ceremony and register the marriage?"

If these are the conditions for getting married, he'll really be in a difficult situation.

Fortunately, the system's response relieved him.

"All that's needed is for the woman to be truly with the host and to be willing to bear children for the host."

"That's good……"

...

On the other side.

Compared to Zhang Lin's situation, the An sisters' situation is not so good.

They don't have the habit of stockpiling food.

Especially An Qingwu, who studies music, an art form that requires a certain figure and weight control. Forget about stocking up on food, she hardly eats at all.

Normally, there's nothing wrong with this. She does maintain a good figure, with almost no excess fat and tight, delicate skin. Sometimes she even does yoga in the living room while wearing yoga clothes. At those times, Zhang Lin wouldn't dare to look when he passed by, otherwise he would have to hunch over and go back inside.

Although An Qingge doesn't have the habit of dieting, she is usually busy with work and rarely eats at home. At most, there are a few fruits and cucumbers in the house, but how long can those things last?

Just now, they were flustered and at a loss, but they had calmed down and discussed the matter in the room.

There's not even a drop of food. How are we going to survive until rescue arrives?
