Chapter 7: Please the Boss

Things were moved into the kitchen one after another. Aunt Chaisang and several other unfamiliar cooks gathered around, intending to watch the whole process.

Of course Zhao Jun didn't mind them watching. She was there to teach them. She didn't cook often, so the chefs would have to learn on their own in the future.

"Okay, you guys, you don't know how to cook anyway, so stand away for now." The uncle surnamed Ai finally stood up and walked to her side.

"Yes, Lao Ai, you are the head chef and the kitchen manager. You are the best at what you do. You should learn first and then teach us. This will save us so many people from gathering here."

Aunt Chaisang said this cheerfully, and the others obviously had no objections.

"Okay, then Manager Ai must have talent."

Zhao Jun doesn't mind these things too much. It doesn't matter who learns.

She rolled up her sleeves and began to get busy.

The first thing she made was bread. Because bread takes some time to ferment, she put the dough in a bowl to fully ferment before turning around to prepare the stir-fry.

With the wok, she was able to cook much more easily. There was fresh beef in the kitchen, so she planned to make a stir-fried beef.

Heat the cold oil in the pan. Since there were no chili peppers or onions, Zhao Jun used a lot of ginger, peppercorns and dogwood to stir-fry to bring out the spicy flavor. Then he added the beef and stir-fried it. Finally, he garnished it with some wild vegetables whose names he didn't know, and a fragrant stir-fried beef was ready.

Since the seasoning was limited, she used the same method to stir-fry a mushroom and chicken dish.

In an instant, the whole kitchen was filled with this strange fragrance. Although there was no chili pepper, the effect of Sichuan peppercorns was also very good. At least it was much more satisfying than yesterday's plain noodles.

"Is this stir-frying?" Aidu followed her without blinking. When he felt the strange aroma, he knew he had lost. This method could make the food more delicious.

"That's right, this is stir-fry. You can figure it out when you have nothing to do. Actually, I'm not that good either, it's just that you haven't mastered this method. Now that you've learned it, maybe in a couple of days you'll be better than me."

Everyone in the kitchen stared at the two dishes intently, and you could even hear the sound of people swallowing their saliva.

"Okay, serve two portions first to keep warm, and divide the rest among you."

Aunt Chaisang ran the fastest and even tasted the food before Aidu.

Soon everyone had a portion in their hands, and the silence was filled with only the sound of chewing.

Zhao Jun ignored them and divided the fermented dough into several portions and put them into the oven.

"Ms. Zhao, this dish is so delicious. Can we eat it every day from now on?" Chai Sang sighed as he looked at the clean plate.

"Of course, Chef Ai has already learned it, so let him do it from now on."

Zhao Jun turned around and saw that the corners of their mouths were all greasy, but the light in their eyes seemed to be about to burst out. It turned out that delicious food could bring people the greatest sense of happiness.

After a while, the bread was almost baked. She was about to put on gloves but Aidu got there first.

"It's hot, let me do it." Aidu has thick calluses on his hands because he often touches hot things in the kitchen.

"Okay, be careful, just take it out and put it on the table." Zhao Jun did not stop him but just gave instructions from the side.

Soon, round and puffy little breads were taken out.

The bread was still hot from the oven, and the overall color was light yellow, like the color of whole wheat bread. She put a few nuts in two of them, and there was no overall difference.

Soon the people in the kitchen were attracted by the bread again.

Zhao Jun tasted it first. It tasted good, with a light nutty aroma. She finished a piece of bread with the stir-fry, and her stomach felt a long-lost satisfaction.

But the others were still watching eagerly.

"Alright, leave one with the other dishes and I'll take it away. You can divide the rest."

Zhao Jun wiped her mouth. She was full, but she still had her boss to worry about. She had to let him know where her money went.

Zhao Jun nodded and left with the lunch box.

When she arrived at the front hall, Eunuch Sun came to greet her from afar.

"Oh, Ms. Zhao, today is your first day on the job. Why are you here just now? The king just asked about you, and I sent people to look for you but couldn't find you." Sun Cheng said hurriedly, and suddenly saw the food box in her hand.

"Are you delivering food for the king?"

"Yes, I made it myself and wanted to give it to the king to try."

Zhao Jun felt a little guilty in her heart, as she was considered absent from work, but when she saw what she had done, she became motivated again. It seemed that she would have to explain to the king in the future that she would not punch in for work and could only work from home or go out on field work.

"Okay, okay, please go in quickly. The king is taking a rest and preparing to have lunch." Sun Cheng hurriedly sent her in.

"Hello, Your Majesty." As soon as Zhao Jun entered, she saw Ying Zheng sitting at the desk looking at bamboo slips. She greeted him.

"Please sit down." Ying Zheng put down the bamboo slips and said to her.

That's not right. My boss seems to be in a good mood even though I haven't been to work for a long time.

"Your Majesty, you haven't had lunch yet, right? This is what I made specially for you in the kitchen this morning. I guarantee it's delicious if you try it." Zhao Jun put the food box on the ground, brought out the lunch and placed it in front of Ying Zheng.

"This is what you made yesterday." Ying Zheng asked the maid next to him to bring water to wash his hands, then picked up the chopsticks and moved them.

He didn't care much about food, as long as he could fill his stomach. Besides, the chefs in the palace were the best. If there was anything special, it was the aroma of peppercorns that could move him slightly.

No one knew that Ying Zheng's favorite scent was Sichuan pepper. He even had several Sichuan pepper sachets in his bedroom, but it was rare to see him using Sichuan pepper in cooking.
