Chapter 28 Preparations before the War

Fengyin Town, late June, sunny.

The rainy season has passed, and as a city built in a valley basin, this time of year is like a furnace.

It was noon, the wind was dry and no one wanted to go out unless it was necessary. The National Temple in Fengyin Town was even more crowded.

Da Qi was an orthodox Taoist country. Although there were occasional temples dedicated to a single deity like the Dongyue Temple, a national temple would be built near larger cities to worship most of the main Taoist gods.

As an important border town, Fengyin Town naturally has a national temple.

People feel sleepy in spring and tired in summer. In the main hall of the national temple, under the statue of the Three Pure Ones, the little Taoist boy Qingfeng is dozing off.

But the national temple is larger in scale, and there is more than one Taoist boy guarding the main hall.

Another Taoist boy named Mingyue pushed him awake.

"Junior brother, be more alert. Haven't you heard? There's a hot topic going on at the Dongyue Temple in Helue Town. Every time they throw evil spirits into the merit box."

Qingfeng rubbed his eyes and snorted coldly: "Only the Emperor Dongyue has a kind personality. If it were us, the Three Pure Ones, would he dare to do that?!"

Mingyue advised again, "A major incident occurred in Helue Town recently. Master and his brothers have all rushed over to provide support. The temple doesn't have much fighting power right now, so we'd better be cautious."

Qingfeng curled his lips and said, "With our current level, we can't stop someone from attacking the temple."

"Haha, Master is quite a sensible person. But it's one thing for you two to be unable to stop him, and it's another thing entirely if you didn't."

A hearty laugh rang out in the palace. The two Taoist boys looked up and saw a young man with thick eyebrows, big eyes, wearing an ill-fitting long gown and dressed like a scholar standing at the door, smiling and greeting them.

Qingfeng glanced at the scholar's attire and concluded that he was poor. He curled his lips in disdain and said, "I've been worshipping the Three Pure Ones for so long, but I haven't seen any of them appear. Why should I pretend? I'm still young. If something really happens, I won't have a future for the rest of my life."

Mingyue smiled bitterly and saluted, saying, "This gentleman is polite. Please don't take my brother's misbehavior to heart."

The scholar nodded and didn't care.

He walked towards the statue and bowed respectfully.

Qingfeng became more and more disdainful.

This guy not only looks stupid, but he is also stupid. He doesn't kneel when worshiping God. It is really unruly. How can he expect the protection of God?

After the scholar finished his worship, he muttered something in a low voice. Qingfeng Mingyue had been practicing Taoism since he was young and had some accomplishments. When he heard what the scholar said, his expression became strange.

The scholar said, "Please forgive me, Three Pure Ones, I have never been to the National Temple before and I don't know where the Emperor is, but this filial piety should be the same.

I really respect you three. You have sent Ma Mian and the others back to the underworld, and I went up the mountain on foot just to avoid disturbing the Holy Chariot.

Could you three please help contact the Emperor? I have something urgent to discuss with him."

The ceremony is over.

The scholar took out a chain from the bag on his back, and under the puzzled gazes of the two Taoist children, he took something out of the chain.

This, this, this... Qingfeng widened his eyes in disbelief.

Although he could not see the soul, the sense of oppression in the soul was extremely familiar to him, and it was very much like the power of a master in the Spirit Transformation Realm.

This down-and-out scholar actually possesses a soul at the Divine Transformation Realm?!

He, what is he going to do!?

The atmosphere in the Sanqing Temple became much more solemn. Qingfeng Mingyue faintly felt that the statue seemed to have an angry expression.

Before they could react, there was a commotion outside the hall.

"Emperor, Emperor! Where are you going?"

Qingfeng Mingyue vaguely saw a figure in misty green clothes break into the main hall, and then disappear in an instant.

Also disappearing was the scholar with thick eyebrows and big eyes.

It was as if nothing had happened in the palace.

Qingfeng blinked: "Just now, that was the statue of Emperor Dongyue, right?"

Mingyue nodded: "It should be..."

Qingfeng blinked again: "Is Daozu angry?"

Mingyue looked up at the statue and shuddered: "You must have seen it wrong, nothing happened just now."

A cultivator at the Xiantian realm burst into the main hall. "The Great Emperor Dongyue just appeared, and the statue disappeared from the temple. Has he been here?"

The two Taoist boys looked at each other, then looked up at the Taoist Ancestor and shook their heads together.

Nothing happened in Sanqing Temple just now.

"Kong Hanan, you are becoming more and more promising!"

Outside the national temple, the emperor gritted his teeth and glared at Kong Hanan.

This kid brought shame upon himself in front of Daozu today. This is simply outrageous.

Kong Hanan's body trembled as he bowed his head.

"Emperor, help! So many lives in Helue Town are depending on you!"

The emperor laughed angrily and pointed at Kong Hanan: "Didn't I tell you to stay away from Yinfeng Mountain and not to provoke them? Isn't this all your fault?"

Kong Hanan looked up blankly, his face innocent. "Emperor, what are you talking about? Didn't you tell me to make plans early? When faced with a threat, we must nip it in the bud, right?"

The emperor kicked Kong Hanan, the lazy fellow, and scolded him with a smile, "Don't be so naughty with me. It has come to this. We will protect the person behind Yinfeng Mountain for a while. You don't have to worry about Helue Town, but you have to deal with the troubles later on your own."

After saying that, he threw down another scroll, which Kong Hanan quickly caught.

The Book of Life and Death was merged into a scroll, and the name was changed again. It is now "The Supplementary Volume of the Book of Life and Death of Jiange County".

Kong Hanan was overjoyed and decided to find ways to show more filial piety to the emperor in the future.

Then the emperor said, "I'm giving you a break this time. Don't bother me if you don't advance again. You're becoming more and more entangled with the Yinfeng Mountain opportunity. We can protect you once, but we can't do it all the time. Don't cause trouble again. Clean up the demons and monsters in Jiange County."
