Chapter 98: Mirror in the Water

Chapter 98: Mirror in the Water

The two walked down the stairs.

"Class B is awesome," Sun Yuancheng exclaimed. "Zhang Xingzhi is indeed the best. Others were too busy trying to avoid Class A, but he led the class and charged forward."

Li Ziyue pursed his lips and said nothing.

"Brother," Sun Yuancheng thought, "If Class B beats Class A this time, won't this instance just end? I don't want to memorize anymore."

When he reached the end of the stairs on the first floor, Sun Yuancheng was about to walk towards the study room, but he saw Li Ziyue turn a corner and duck into a small room at the bottom of the stairs where the cleaner's miscellaneous items were stored.

"We can't win," Li Ziyue finally said, "Class B will lose."

The door handle couldn't be turned, obviously it was locked from the inside. Fortunately, this utility room was quite old and the wooden door looked like it would break if touched.

Li Ziyue asked Sun Yuancheng to step back, then he raised his leg and kicked the rusty lock. The lock broke with a sound, and debris and dust danced together.

"Ah?" Sun Yuancheng was puzzled. "Is Zhang Xingzhi crazy? If he was going to lose, why would he take the initiative to attack?"

Li Ziyue put aside the broom that was blocking the road: "Don't look at the process, look at the end."

"Class B is the highest level class of players. If they fail for the first time, they will only be demoted, but the entire class will not be eliminated."

"Zhang Xingzhi is used to planning the overall situation. The result of this challenge was not decided by Class A, but by him. His purpose in launching the challenge was to lose and to relegate Class B."

Sun Yuancheng was even more confused.

Li Ziyue stopped talking. This small room was extremely narrow. When he and Sun Yuancheng came in, they had almost filled up the space.

He raised his head slightly, his eyes fixed on the innermost circular clock.

The light was dim in the evening, the old lamp on the ceiling was covered with layers of spider silk, and the surroundings were covered with dust accumulated by time.

The clock runs slowly, and the sound of the mechanical gears turning at the back is particularly harsh in the silent space.

“Click, click.”

Li Ziyue pressed lightly with his fingertips on the dusty glass surface of the clock.

"I said Zhang Xingzhi is not that simple, but how do you know him..."

Sun Yuancheng stopped talking suddenly.

The clock was still ticking and the dust in the air was rising and falling.

The surroundings were eerily quiet.

Li Ziyue disappeared in front of him again.

There were only two people sitting in the huge conference room. One of them was dignified, with black hair styled back and frameless glasses that were shaped like the documents on the desk.

Looking at his face again, he turned out to be the lawyer in the appetizer segment of "Snowstorm Mountain House".

The other person was lying lazily on a soft sofa on the side, yawning slowly.

"There are only two troublesome people in English D class, one is Li Ziyue and the other is Zhang Lian," the lawyer adjusted his glasses, "Zhang Lian has been restricted by the system, you don't have to worry about him, just target Li Ziyue."

The man opposite raised his eyes and looked at him.

"Li Ziyue often does his homework while clearing dungeons. I've watched many of his live broadcasts. Chinese and English are his two weakest subjects."

"According to the subject arrangement of the National College Entrance Examination, Chinese is your first subject. You should try to delay the time and don't wait until the math test begins."

Zhang Feiye supported half of his face and chewed on those words carefully: "Delay time?"

"Yes," the lawyer smiled, "There is a special item in the dungeon called 'Clock'. This item allows the opponent to control the passage of time during the duel."

"For example, in principle, the Chinese language test takes 2.5 hours. If neither side has a clock prop, they can only endure these 2.5 hours. But if one side has a prop, the length of the Chinese language test can be adjusted within a certain range. Time cannot flow backwards, but it can be accelerated or slowed down."

"Interesting." Zhang Feiye curled the corners of his mouth.

"The actual gap between Class C and Class D is not that big. If we are not careful, it is easy for them to capsize," the lawyer said cautiously. "It is impossible for Li Ziyue to be unprepared. Before your duel begins, he will definitely get the clock prop, so I suggest you move up the duel date and don't give him any time to breathe."

Zhang Feiye waved his hand: "Unless we negotiate with Class D, we have no right to change the time."

The lawyer thought for a while and said, "Let your team look for the clock now. I'm afraid Li Ziyue has already left. But as long as you find it first..."

"Whether we fight first or later, Class D is at a huge disadvantage and it will be hard for it to turn the tables. But you," Zhang Feiye crossed his legs, "Class B will attack us directly in two days, and you, Class A, are just going to sit there and wait for death?"

The lawyer shook his head, "Class B can't beat us."

"So sure?"

"Someone in Class A knows Zhang Xingzhi." The lawyer only replied with this sentence.

Zhang Feiye looked at him deeply: "You are just spectators, but you know more than us veteran players."

The lawyer lowered his head and sorted out the documents on the table: "You passed through layers of screening and entered the infinite flow copy, and so did we."

"Essentially, we are not that different, and we know the details of many players." He turned his back to Zhang Feiye and walked towards the door. "How much do you know about us?"

"I only know that we will become enemies in the end," Zhang Feiye slowly stood up from his seat and stretched, "You don't have to come here to provide information."

The lawyer stopped and said, "If you can get rid of Li Ziyue, that would be great. If not..."

His lenses were a blurry white mist in the corridor light.

"It's no harm to test your strength in advance."

Zhang Feiye watched the lawyer's figure disappear around the corner of the corridor and made an impatient "tsk" sound.

"You get what you are as an anchor as you are an audience."

Sun Yuancheng looked at Li Ziyue, who was still in a coma, anxiously. At this moment, Li Ziyue's breath was not as weak as last night, but his face was still pale, not much different from the patients in the intensive care unit.

When Sun Yuancheng recalled the scene of last night, he couldn't help but feel scared.

Li Ziyue disappeared without reason in the afternoon. Sun Yuancheng and others tried their best but failed to trigger the special function of the clock in the utility room again. Zhang Lian didn't say a word during this period, but everyone knew that he was on the verge of an explosion.

Just when everyone was at a loss, Li Ziyue unexpectedly appeared at the dormitory door at nearly nine o'clock in the evening.

His face was pale and his mental state was extremely bad. He looked like he had been thrown into an ice river and soaked there. His whole body was wet, but his chest was bright red, and there was no sign of life at all.

Sun Yuancheng was so frightened that his legs went limp.

"Oh my god! Brother! What happened!" The corners of his mouth drooped, and his eyes instantly turned red. "It's all my fault that I didn't notice that there was something wrong with the clock. Fortunately you came out. If you hadn't shown up, Zhang Lian would have killed someone!"

Li Ziyue looked at him weakly, his eyes slightly closed, and wanted to say something, but his throat was in unbearable pain. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't utter a word.

He was out of strength and fell to the ground.

Sun Yuancheng hadn't seen Li Ziyue like this for a long time. Fortunately, Zhang Lian appeared at the end, otherwise they would both have to lie on the ground.

Fortunately, Li Ziyue was lucky. He was stabbed in the chest by a sharp weapon, leaving a hole the size of a baby's fist, and blood kept pouring out.

Fortunately, the heart part was avoided. Zhang Lian used all the usable healing items in his backpack on Li Ziyue, and finally pulled him back from the brink of death.

Li Ziyue's hand on the edge of the bed seemed to move, and Sun Yuancheng became nervous instantly.

"Brother, how are you feeling? Do you need some water? Something to eat?"

Li Ziyue opened his eyes with great difficulty. He was still unconscious, but his mouth was unconsciously slightly open.

Zhang Lian held his still cold hand, dipped a cotton swab in water, and moistened his dry lips.

Sun Yuancheng was stunned: "...Brother, do you have anything to say?"

"Clock." Zhang Lian put Li Ziyue's hand against the side of his face, "He said he didn't get the clock."

He reached out and pushed aside the loose hair on Li Ziyue's forehead that was wet with sweat, revealing Li Ziyue's bright features.

"What clock?"

Li Ziyue coughed hard twice and finally regained some strength: "The channel... is closed... Class C... people... have to fight in advance... otherwise there will be no..."

"The channel to obtain the clock is now closed, but someone from Class C has already entered. We have to move up the date for the matchup with Class C. If we let someone from Class C get the clock, we won't be able to win."

Zhang Lian completed his words.

Li Ziyue looked a little more relaxed, and his slightly frowned brows finally relaxed.

He struggled to get up, and Zhang Lian naturally held his waist.

The person in his arms stiffened for a moment, and then he couldn't stop coughing.

"Is it hurting anywhere else?" Zhang Lian kissed the tip of his ear that was burning.

Li Ziyue shrank inward, then shook his head.

After using the props, his injuries healed quickly, and he just has no strength now.

"Brother, you haven't even got the clock yet. Class C shouldn't be that fast..."

"No," Li Ziyue interrupted Sun Yuancheng, "Everyone... no..."

“Everyone has different requirements when getting the clock.”

"Oh..." Sun Yuancheng suddenly realized, "But to fight so soon... Brother, what about your health?"

Li Ziyue lowered his eyelashes and sighed slowly.

"I can……"

Zhang Lian paused as he was tidying up the quilt for him, his eyes gradually dimming.

"What's fine?" Sun Yuancheng said with a sad face, "Brother, just take a good rest. Oh, it's so depressing. I wish I was in the same class with you..."

Before he could finish his words, Zhang Xingzhi knocked on the door twice and entered the room.

Zhang Xingzhi brought some porridge and a few plates of packaged side dishes: "Eat something first."

He turned around and looked at Li Ziyue, took a deep breath and said, "If you don't participate in the duel, your class will basically lose, but in your current state... you can't afford to waste time. I received news that the people in Class C are about to get the clock."

"How could you get hurt at such a critical moment?" Zhang Xingzhi sighed. "Thanks to you for helping your class solve the free test paper problem, they are relying on you now. If you don't go to the duel, the class morale will be cut in half, not to mention defeating Class C."

Li Ziyue was silent for a long time.

Class D cannot "downgrade to save its life". If it fails, everyone in the class will be eliminated. Even though he is in a very bad state now, he has to be a "mascot" to temporarily stabilize the situation.

He slowly closed his eyes, his words were like knives, every word cutting his throat.

"I will go."

Li Ziyue didn't expect that even so they were still a step slower.

The small clock in Zhang Feiye's palm was shaking left and right. He had a provocative smile in his eyes: "The language alone can drag you to death, not to mention that your physical condition is extremely poor now."

Li Ziyue's heart suddenly sank.

[Students from English Class D and Science Class C have arrived, and the class showdown begins]
