Chapter 200: Unknown Statue (Part 1)

"Don't move! If you don't want what you see now to be the last scene of your life." Joseph brought his men and rushed directly to the person in the corner of the alley.

"Wait! Wait!"

Without resistance, the other party is just an ordinary person.

"I'm just a passing merchant. I'm a merchant from Adak."

"We can only determine your identity after the investigation." Joseph tied the man up and brought him directly to Sean without saying a word.

He was a dark-looking but energetic man with stubble covering his entire chin. He looked to be less than 30 years old.

"Who are you?" Sean asked.

"To answer the general, I am an Adak merchant passing by and resting in this area. I am not a bad person, I am a businessman!" The tone of the Adak people is indeed different from that of the people of the Basaran Empire. This seems to be the first time that Sean has really spoken to the Adak people one-on-one.

"Are you from Adak?"

"Yes."

The other party lowered his head but there was still some dissatisfaction in his tone.

"You better be honest, you know this is us"

Joseph was about to speak when Sean raised his hand to stop him. He told Sean that it would be best not to tell anyone outside about his trip as a lord. He had seen the communication ability of these traveling merchants. If Joseph said it out loud, it might not take long for the news that the Lord of Oro City had come to the old city of Tacoma to spread.

"Why are you here?" Sean continued to ask the other party.

Merchants are different from ordinary residents, especially these knowledgeable traveling merchants.

Ever since that action, the other party had been perplexed! However, with so many soldiers around, the merchant didn't dare speak, remaining silent. He didn't look nervous at all, but rather calm. He must really be a merchant, so there was no need to be so nervous.

"We are merchants who deliver goods to the Basaran Empire all year round. We used to rest in Tacoma City. Although the city is empty now, there are still houses there. For us, having a place to rest is enough." After all, the Adak people are not from the Basaran Empire, so they are not as cautious as the imperial people when speaking.

"You mean there are still a lot of people around here?"

"Yes, they are over there in East City." The businessman pointed in a direction.

"Take me to see it, otherwise it will be difficult to prove your identity." Sean said casually.

The city of Tacoma is now a city in ruins. The streets are deserted and empty, with only some garbage that no one has cleaned up and smelly water accumulated during rainy days!

"Sir, what are we going to do at the merchant's place?"

Joseph couldn't help asking as he followed the Adak merchant.

It is very common for merchants to take a break everywhere, or it can be said that although merchants are not a big deal in the eyes of most people, they are still accustomed to the existence of such a profession, because with them, all goods in the world can be bought, sold and exchanged with each other. Even in times of war, trade will be restricted, but traveling merchants from other countries will not be really targeted.

Because once peace comes, they will still be needed to increase a city's purchasing power!

"I didn't tell you this when we set out, but I'm telling you now." Sean looked at Joseph. After all, he was the general who followed him this time, so he had to at least tell him what he was going to do next.

When the other party saw his serious look, he nodded firmly.

"Do you remember the last time we discussed this, Harry speculated that Adak was trying to find an opportunity to seize the old city of Tacoma?"

The other party continued to nod in affirmation.

Harry was present when he was talking to him, and it was this Joseph who sent a letter saying that the Adak people had increased their troops on the border.

"But I later heard some stories from Luke about Adak merchants. They seemed to be following some kind of order and were looking for something when they came to Tacoma."

"Something? What is that?"

"I don't know for now, so I have to go and see for myself. Remember, I am not Count Wigel of Oro City here. I am just a general of a higher rank than you. Don't reveal my identity." Sean said.

"Yes, sir."

While the two were talking, the soldiers had already entered the place where the other party said the merchants lived.

It was just a slightly cleaner street, littered with furniture they had moved out of various homes that they couldn't move away. They used them to make fires, to build all sorts of strange-shaped objects, and of course, to use other people's old earthenware pots as pots to cook.

It seems that the merchants have treated this empty city as a place where they can do whatever they want, a bit like shopping in ruins.

As the soldiers approached, many merchants who were talking stopped and stood up again.

The armor and attire of the accompanying soldiers can easily be identified as being from the city of Oro, and the news that Oro has been continuously sending reinforcements here has also been spread among merchants.

In fact, in the eyes of ordinary businessmen, although there are national interests, they still hope that peace will last forever so that their own interests will not be harmed. Otherwise, if there is a military conflict between the two sides, it is likely that this trade route will come to a standstill.

"General, this is where we usually rest. We usually come here to rest for a night before setting off again after coming from the Adak region."

"One night? Not necessarily."

Sean said suddenly.

Looking at the businessmen around, they were all strong and most of them had dark skin.

This is more like the ethnic group in Adak, but some of them look very similar to people from the Basaran Empire, except that their clothing is different.

"General, you're joking. We have always been like this. We are just borrowing this place and have not done anything to harm the Basaran Empire." The other party tried his best to play the role of a good person who was wronged.

"But you're not getting a night off, are you?" Sean continued.

The merchants around, including those who were caught, were a little puzzled.

He walked forward and glanced at Joseph.

"We are the guards of Oro City. Recently, our lord heard a report from a former Tacoma resident. He said that several items in Tacoma originally belonged to the home of Lord Francis, who died innocently, but were stolen by merchants. So we came here to see if this is true."

Since he couldn't find it, and everyone he asked was almost lying, Sean had no choice but to use another method.

It was not mentioned directly what it was, but it was mentioned in front of all merchants.

Any businessman who experiences mood swings is an insider.

Sure enough, after I said that, the mood around me gradually changed.

Laughter! Confusion! Angry! Nervous! And worried!
