Azure clouds overflowed.
Jiang Mingxue saw him typing with one hand on the way, so she tiptoed and peeked at his phone. Just then, she saw him finish typing the sentence and reply. She was both amused and exasperated: "Rong Chengzhou, you talk so rudely. You must get scolded a lot every day."
After replying, Rong Chengzhou put his phone away, took her hand, and walked out of the market. After pondering for two seconds, he said, "It seems so."
Especially after he got married, several people who had treated him very politely before that were clearly not.
Jiang Mingxue walked lightly on the stone path and replied to him without any politeness: "Serves you right."
Rong Chengzhou raised an eyebrow slightly, wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her into his embrace, his dark pupils reflecting the bright, star-like light: "You're my wife, shouldn't you be on my side?"
Jiang Mingxue turned her face away: "I don't want to get scolded with you."
Rong Chengzhou wasn't annoyed. He gripped her chin with his thumb and forefinger, turned her around, and leaned down to kiss her lips.
Jiang Mingxue was stunned for a moment before she reacted. She pushed Rong Chengzhou away, a faint blush creeping onto her cheeks in the darkness: "There are so many people on the road, what are you doing?"
Rong Chengzhou chuckled softly. He had just suddenly wanted to kiss her, but he didn't want to kiss her in the bustling market, so he only gave her a light kiss.
Let go of her a little, and continue walking forward while holding her hand.
The island was breezy and warm, and the market was lively but not crowded. They held hands and walked all the way to the end of the market before turning back.
The hotel bed sheets had been changed and a pleasant fragrance had been sprayed, but it was quickly masked by a peculiar smell after only half an hour.
Rong Chengzhou changed the sheets at 3 a.m. Since there was nowhere to go for a morning run these past few days, the two of them slept until noon the next day, and finally got on the jet ski that had expired yesterday in the afternoon.
The sea around the island shimmered in the afternoon light, the roar of engines piercing the surface. Rong Chengzhou gripped the handlebars of the jet ski, waves crashing in white arcs on either side of the hull. Jiang Mingxue sat in the front, the space somewhat cramped, her back pressed tightly against Rong Chengzhou's chest.
The sea breeze, carrying a damp, salty mist, patted our faces, and the tips of our hair were streaked with light. The sound of the waves mixed with the engine noise, and weaved by the wind. The next second, the boat made a beautiful sharp turn, and the splashing water soaked the hems of our clothes.
"Are you dizzy?" A deep voice came from above, but it was hard to hear clearly because of the wind.
The motorboat bobbed and rocked with the waves. Jiang Mingxue gripped the handlebars tightly next to him and shook her head, saying, "I'm not dizzy."
The jet ski was quite bumpy, which might make others seasick, and Jiang Mingxue might have felt seasick before, but she wouldn't feel seasick now.
After two months of training by Rong Chengzhou, she has developed the skill to resist dizziness.
In the following instances, Jiang Mingxue controlled the motorboat while Rong Chengzhou sat behind her, one arm around her waist, the other hand idly pinching the flesh on Jiang Mingxue's waist from time to time.
Distracted by his interruption, Jiang Mingxue shifted her focus and scolded him with a stern face: "Rong Chengzhou, it itches, stop messing around."
Rong Chengzhou sat behind her and gave a faint "oh".
Then move your hand up little by little.
Jiang Mingxue: "...Rong Chengzhou, do you have ADHD?"
The man casually fiddled with it, then retorted in a flat voice, "I used to be able to stand at attention for eight hours straight when I was in the army."
Jiang Mingxue used one hand to slap him away: "Then just pretend you're standing at attention right now. If you move around again, I'll throw you overboard to feed the sharks."
With a sigh that seemed to carry a hint of regret, Rong Chengzhou paused for a few more seconds before slowly withdrawing his hand and obediently putting his arm around Jiang Mingxue's waist.
The jet ski was more fun than she had imagined. Jiang Mingxue enjoyed the experience for an entire afternoon. Sitting in front, she could feel the thrill of speeding across the sea to the fullest extent, but at the same time, she was more susceptible to the impact of the waves.
When she got off the jet ski and took off her life jacket, the fabric of her shirt on the front was wet, and the color and shape of her underwear could be vaguely seen.
Submarine personnel were already on shore to meet them; there were two men. Rong Chengzhou's eyes darkened. He stepped forward to block her, then took off his windbreaker and draped it over her shoulders, zipping it up.
Then he moved aside, took her hand, and led her to the changing room to change clothes.
After dinner, we went back to the hotel to rest. On the third day, I slept until the afternoon before getting up, so I could go straight to dinner. Following Rong Chengzhou's travel itinerary, we watched a grand fireworks display at sea.
On the fourth day, we caught half a fish with the fishermen. On the fifth day, we experienced a submarine. The honeymoon trip was almost over. We only spent half a day each day on one activity and spent the rest of the time in the hotel.
On the fifth night, after soaking in the hot springs, the two returned to the hotel and, without needing to shower again, went to bed early.
Just as Rong Chengzhou lowered his head to kiss her, his hand slipping up from under her nightgown, preparing for their nightly routine, Jiang Mingxue's phone suddenly rang.
Almost jolted awake, she pushed Rong Chengzhou away, sat up against the headboard, tidied her messy hair and clothes in front of her phone screen, and then composed herself to answer Su Yun's video call.
"Hey, Peipei, have you guys gone back to the hotel?" Su Yun was also lying in bed at the moment. Since she had nothing to do that night, she made a video call to Jiang Mingxue to ask how their trip was going.
I've been so engrossed in having fun these past few days that I haven't even thought to call home. Jiang Mingxue quickly replied with a smile, "You've had a great time. The islanders, the environment, and the scenery are all wonderful. You should come and try it next time."
"That's good." Su Yun's face was reflected in the window of the phone screen. She asked her with interest, "Where did you all go? Why didn't you post anything on your WeChat Moments or send any photos to the group chat for us to see?"
"Hmm..." Jiang Mingxue was stumped by the question; it was a very good one.
Where did you go on your five-day honeymoon?
She thought about it carefully, and it should be the beach, the bathroom, the balcony, the hot spring, the bed, etc...
While other people travel like special forces soldiers checking off targets, she and Rong Chengzhou simply came out to sleep in a different place.
The planned itinerary only included one and a half days of activities. Of all the honeymoon arrangements, only the cost of several thousand yuan per night in hotels was recouped; the other activities were either booked but not played, or canceled outright.
It's not that she doesn't want to post photos, it's just that she hasn't taken many.
She was speechless at the question, while Rong Chengzhou, lying next to her, rested his forehead on his hand, enjoying the ever-changing and complex expressions on her face.
Jiang Mingxue felt his gaze, glared at him angrily, and then stammered and made up a few places, picking out a few photos from the album of tropical fish taken at the underwater restaurant and the sea taken on the first day when she arrived on the island.
Su Yun carefully looked through the dozens of photos she had sent, and then suddenly noticed at the end: "Hey, why are they all photos of the Ocean Museum? Didn't you go to many other places and not take any photos?"
Jiang Mingxue's expression froze for a moment, then returned to normal, and she said seriously, "...those photos haven't been edited yet. I'll send them to you after I've edited them."
Su Yun believed her and didn't suspect anything: "Okay, you guys have fun first, we'll look at the photos when we get back, Grandpa and I are waiting. Oh, by the way, remember to find someone else to take a lot of group photos for you. I offered to hire a photographer for you, but you didn't want to, I don't know if photos taken by passersby will be any good."
Jiang Mingxue nodded: "Okay, I'll take more pictures and show them to you."
“Okay,” Su Yun replied. “They must be exhausted these past few days. I saw them walking 20,000 to 30,000 steps a day when they went on vacation.”
Jiang Mingxue pretended to rub her shoulders, thankful that she hadn't enabled WeChat's step count permission: "Yeah, it's pretty tiring. I play from morning till night every day, my legs are about to break."
“That’s how it is with traveling. If you’re tired, just rest more. Anyway, there’s plenty of time and the itinerary isn’t too packed,” Su Yun told her.
Jiang Mingxue: "Okay, Mom, I understand."
"Alright, I won't bother you anymore. You must be tired after playing all day, so get some rest."
"Okay, you should get some rest too."
"......"
After hanging up the phone, Jiang Mingxue breathed a sigh of relief. A very low, soft laugh came from beside her, and she knew without even thinking who it was.
Jiang Mingxue turned her head to look at her unhappily: "How dare you laugh?"
Rong Chengzhou's smile deepened as he looked at her with a leisurely air, praising her in a low voice, "Mrs. Rong, your acting is quite good."
Jiang Mingxue gave a slight smile: "Thank you, it's all thanks to you."
Ever since she married him, she has been forced to improve her acting skills.
While pretending not to know about his "hidden illness," she put on a loving act in front of her family and friends. Now that they've finally come out to the truth, she still has to pretend to be very tired during their honeymoon to cover up the fact that they spend 18 out of 24 hours a day in bed.
Rong Chengzhou accepted her affirmation with a faint smile, then leaned down and pressed her against him, slowly kissing her lips.
Jiang Mingxue slowly closed her eyes, wrapped her arms around his neck, and reminded him, "You can only do it once tonight. We have to go out to take photos early tomorrow, otherwise we won't be able to explain to Mom and Dad."
"Mmm." The man responded with a short, sharp syllable, his voice quick and easy.
Outside the spacious and bright sea-view room window, the deep sea was so still that only the sound of waves could be heard. The light from the waves crept in through the window frame, weaving a shimmering, fine silver net on the floor.
That night, Rong Chengzhou did not disobey Jiang Mingxue's request; in fact, he obediently complied and only did it once.
But this time was different from the past, because he didn't come out at all that night. During the gap in the middle, he hugged her from behind, pretended to feed her water, and gently comforted her.
Before she knew it, it was already past midnight. Jiang Mingxue looked up at the swaying crystal chandelier and was utterly impressed by Rong Chengzhou's ability to find loopholes.
Fortunately, the man still had some conscience left. He did it twice in one session, but the time was shorter than before. At 1:30 a.m., he finally let go of her, held her while she took a shower and went to sleep.
The next morning, Jiang Mingxue struggled to get out of bed and took photos and checked in according to the two of them's pre-arranged itinerary.
Fortunately, the island is not large, and you can visit almost all the iconic attractions in less than a day by renting a sightseeing vehicle.
In the afternoon, I went back to the hotel to rest for a while and sorted out the photos with Rong Chengzhou. In the evening, we took a ferry to another sea area.
The cruise ship was self-driving, and there were even fewer people in this area; as far as the eye could see, there were only the two of them.
Jiang Mingxue, dressed in a plain-colored long dress, stood on the deck, spreading her arms to feel the sea breeze.
The wind ruffled her swaying skirt and tousled her hair. She closed her eyes, quietly and immersing herself in the sea breeze, thoroughly enjoying the relaxed and pleasant atmosphere.
Rong Chengzhou came out of the cabin and draped a coat over her shoulders: "It's windy tonight, be careful not to catch a cold."
Jiang Mingxue slowly opened her eyes, pulled his clothes tighter, leaned against his shoulder, and whispered, "Rong Chengzhou, if I hadn't taken the initiative to propose to you, what kind of life would you be living now?"
Rong Chengzhou touched her hand; it was slightly cold. He then took both of her hands and warmed them for her.
With his other arm around her shoulder, he thought seriously for a moment: "She might be bothered by the pressure to get married, just like before. She spends 360 days a year in the military and only goes home for a couple of days occasionally."
Jiang Mingxue had expected this, and continued to ask, "Then, would you marry someone else because you can't stand their pressure to get married?"
The man beside him shook his head almost without thinking: "No."
"Why? You're just marrying me to find someone to appease your family, aren't you?" she asked curiously.
Rong Chengzhou shook his head: "If I could just grab anyone and get married, I wouldn't have dragged this out until now."
Strangely enough, when he finally returned to Beicheng after six months of military service, the first thing he received wasn't the "Thank you for your hard work" from the crowd, nor his mother's "Your son is back," nor even a stranger's kind concern, but rather Jiang Mingxue's wrong remark:
"Dogs and Jianghuai scenery are not allowed."
It must be said that this was indeed a very special sentence, one that left a deep impression on him and remains vivid in his memory to this day. It was at that moment that he clearly caught the slight cracking in her originally calm eyes.
He knew that she still harbored a true, unreleased Jiang Mingxue within her heart.
After that, even though she was afraid of him, she still called out to him and asked him if he wanted to get married.
This was indeed somewhat offensive, but the fact that she dared to speak out was brave enough.
He was emotionally detached and wouldn't say he fell in love at first sight, but his years of detective experience allowed him to see at a glance that Jiang Mingxue was a good and suitable marriage partner.
He could tell from their first meeting that she was a gentle, funny, and brave person—three rare qualities that were enough for him to choose her.
After listening to his statement, Jiang Mingxue clicked her tongue in silence: "I knew you were treating me like an enemy spy plane."
She thought she had thought things through enough, but Rong Chengzhou directly used his reconnaissance experience to analyze her motivations and gave her three well-reasoned points.
Rong Chengzhou chuckled. At first, he did indeed observe Jiang Mingxue with the same wariness one would show towards a stranger.
He hugged her tighter, trying to soothe her and express his remorse:
"I'm sorry, it's my fault."
Jiang Mingxue sighed helplessly: "Apologizing is useless. There's nothing we can do. We're on a sinking ship now and there's no getting off."
Rong Chengzhou couldn't help but smile, tilting his head to kiss her forehead. His deep voice, carried on the sea breeze, was exceptionally pleasant to hear.
"Then stay on my ship for the rest of your life."
The wind was lovely that night, and they embraced and kissed on the cruise ship, falling deeply in love in the deserted sea.
Rong Chengzhou has installed customized security measures everywhere – in his home and hotel, on his bedside table, in the bathroom, on the balcony, and even in his car – just in case.
But he didn't prepare in advance for tonight.
The cruise ship docked at the shore, and he gently kissed her eyes: "I've discussed it with the commander, and I'll be in Beicheng for the next year. I can come back to take care of you on weekends when I don't have missions."
Jiang Mingxue felt ticklish from his kisses and her mind went blank: "Huh? What do you mean?"
His hand slipped inside the zipper on her back, expertly unbuttoning the complicated buttons and peeling away her protective clothing layer by layer: "Don't you want a child? We'll have one next year."
Jiang Mingxue opened her eyes again, and upon hearing the news, she became inexplicably nervous: "Really?"
Rong Chengzhou groaned softly, still kissing her gently: "Peipei, relax."
A warm breath wafted down, and Jiang Mingxue gradually entered a state of bliss under his guidance.
This was their last night on the island, undisturbed, and their feelings deepened naturally.
The waves washed over the sandy shore layer by layer, then gently receded, carrying fine sand with them. When he was completely released, he kissed away the tears from the corners of her eyes with extremely gentle movements.
The heat seeped into the sand as Rong Chengzhou held her tightly, his burning lips pressed against her ear, his deep, husky voice like sand being ground against her skin:
“Peipei, it’s overflowing.”
