Chapter 36 Changfeng, if you want to hold hands again, you can just tell me. ...
The two patients we temporarily received had been poisoned by eating raw, marinated seafood containing parasites. Fortunately, they received timely medical attention before the toxins were absorbed, and they were able to recover after inducing vomiting and receiving acupuncture and medication.
The two were in the same situation, and Jiang Mingxue was overwhelmed as she had to give acupuncture to both of them.
Fortunately, Yan Ze always left late, so he could help her prepare the medicine and take care of the patients.
It was already past seven o'clock when she finished. The two patients were temporarily observed in the examination room. Jiang Mingxue came out of the examination room and went to the rest room to change clothes.
Rong Chengzhou had been waiting for her in the lounge for half an hour. When she came in, he slowly stood up and asked, "Are you done with your work?"
Jiang Mingxue nodded, took off her medical gown, and hung it in the closet: "I'm done for now."
The patient's condition is currently stable, but it is unknown whether the vomiting will continue in the latter half of the night.
As she closed the cabinet door and turned around, her steps suddenly became unsteady and she swayed.
Rong Chengzhou reacted quickly and caught her: "Are you alright?"
Jiang Mingxue raised her hand and pressed her temples. She had been working non-stop all day and her head was a little dizzy.
She leaned against him, her tired voice softening slightly: "Not good."
Rong Chengzhou frowned slightly and put his arm around her shoulder as they sat down in a chair.
Standing behind her, his long, slender fingers brushed her hand aside and pressed gently on her temples: "I'll help you."
Jiang Mingxue obediently lowered her hand. The two were separated by a waist-high chair back. She tilted her head back slightly, leaning against him, and gently closed her eyes.
Rong Chengzhou could see her beautiful face as soon as he lowered his eyes.
My fingertips paused for a moment.
He gently massaged her face with his fingers, looking at her tired face, and said softly, "Taking everything on your own will make you very tired."
Jiang Mingxue slowly opened her eyes, looked up at him, and smiled: "Colonel Rong, these are actually words from your mouth."
Rong Chengzhou straightened his lips: "Can you learn something good?"
Jiang Mingxue's smile deepened, and a dimple appeared on her lips: "If we're not family, we won't enter the same door. Let's not make fun of each other."
The man's brows relaxed and gradually smoothed out: "Indeed."
He pressed the right pressure, and Jiang Mingxue leaned against him languidly, falling asleep without realizing it.
Rong Chengzhou didn't call out to her; he steadily supported her, acting as her backrest.
Afraid of waking her, I softened the pressure on my hands.
About half an hour later, Jiang Mingxue woke up on her own.
She was sleeping so soundly that thirty minutes felt like only a few seconds had passed. If it weren't for the clock on the wall having gone around halfway, she would have thought she had just dozed off for a moment.
She moved her head and looked up to meet Rong Chengzhou's clearly defined jawline.
A deep male voice came from above: "Awake?"
Jiang Mingxue nodded sleepily, sat up straight, and turned her head to find Rong Chengzhou still standing behind her, in the same position she had been in before she fell asleep.
Have you been standing like this for half an hour?
Rong Chengzhou slowly withdrew his hand and said calmly, "Mm."
Jiang Mingxue was a little embarrassed: "Why didn't you wake me up? It must have been tiring to stand like that."
Rong Chengzhou replied calmly, "It's alright, I'm used to standing at attention."
Jiang Mingxue couldn't help but laugh: "Having a soldier husband is so wonderful."
Rong Chengzhou smiled slightly, very softly.
He walked to the table, opened the insulated food container, and said, "Have something to eat."
Jiang Mingxue nodded. After resting for a while, she was about to go over when she suddenly remembered Yan Ze, who was still in the clinic looking after patients.
"Aze hasn't eaten either."
Rong Chengzhou nodded slightly and closed the insulated cover again.
Carrying two meals out, she knocked on the door of the consultation room: "Dr. Yan, would you like to have lunch together?"
Yan Ze sat beside the blue hospital bed and immediately noticed the two lunch boxes in his hand.
He turned his head away coldly and refused indifferently: "Thank you, but no need."
Rong Chengzhou then returned to the lounge, placed the lunchbox on the table, and said in a calm voice, "He said he wasn't hungry."
Jiang Mingxue believed her and said, "Okay. Let's eat first, and we'll buy more for Aze if he gets hungry later."
Rong Chengzhou: "Hmm."
After the meal, Jiang Mingxue put on her medical gown and went to the examination room to check on the patients.
One patient has improved significantly, while the other, who is weaker, remains in a coma and will only recover once the medication takes effect.
Jiang Mingxue took the pulse of each of them and gave the weaker patient a few acupuncture needles. She then turned to Yan Ze and said, "Ze, go and eat something. I'll watch over things here."
Yan Ze shook his head: "It's okay, I'm not hungry."
"Alright." Jiang Mingxue stopped trying to persuade her and let Yan Ze stay with her and keep watch.
She lowered her head and sent Rong Chengzhou a message:
I can't leave right now, why don't you go back first?
Rong Chengzhou replied to her quickly:
【CZ】: It's okay, I'll stay here with you.
Jiang Mingxue looked at the messages on her phone with some surprise, wondering why no one could persuade her to leave.
She continued typing: "If you're bored, you can look at the books on my desk."
【CZ】: Okay.
Rong Chengzhou sat in Jiang Mingxue's lounge and took a literary novel from her desk.
A maple leaf bookmark was tucked between the pages, and a golden tassel hung from the spine of the book; she hadn't finished reading it yet.
Rong Chengzhou flipped through her book and read a few pages.
It's an adventurer's story with a dramatic plot and some supernatural elements.
I never expected her to like this kind of subject matter.
Rong Chengzhou doesn't usually like reading leisure books, but for some reason he got engrossed in this one.
When you turn to the next few pages, the name of a minor character in the book is circled and marked with an arrow, with a line of neat, small print next to it:
This person must be the villain!
I also drew a simple sketch of a detective wearing glasses with an expression.
Rong Chengzhou couldn't help but purse his lips.
Let's continue reading.
When the plot was revealed, Jiang Mingxue's comment was a surprised emoticon:
【It's not!】
At every important plot point, there are similar annotations. He would unconsciously linger on these markings for a while, looking at her calligraphy and paintings word by word.
She described it vividly, as if she were watching it with him.
Before I knew it, I saw the page where Jiang Mingxue had put a bookmark, but there were no more of her annotations after that.
He closed the book and put it back where it belonged.
He got up, filled a glass with warm water, and brought it to Jiang Mingxue: "How are you?"
Jiang Mingxue had just finished taking her pulse: "She should be fine now."
One patient had just vomited for the second time before recovering.
She washed her hands with disinfectant, then took the water glass and drank a few sips.
Suddenly remembering that she needed to get up to prepare the medicine, she said, "Oh right, you haven't taken your medicine tonight."
Rong Chengzhou pressed her shoulder and made her sit back down: "Don't worry about me, you should rest well after you're done."
"Okay, Aze, you should rest for a while too."
Yan Ze was tidying up the medical waste in the examination room: "Okay, good."
She told the patients to call them if they needed anything, and then went back to the break room.
She had originally planned to make do tonight, but Rong Chengzhou had brought her a change of clothes so she could take a quick shower.
She walked up to him, carrying clothes and toiletries, and asked, "Do you want to take a shower?"
Rong Chengzhou turned his head slightly and looked at her calmly: "Now?"
"..." Jiang Mingxue coughed awkwardly. "What I mean is, the clinic's bathroom is basic. If you want to take a shower tonight, you can go home."
"Oh." The man casually withdrew his gaze. "I showered before I came, I won't shower tonight."
"good."
Jiang Mingxue didn't ask any more questions, quickly left the lounge, and went to the bathroom to take a shower.
Yan Ze cleaned up the trash in the consultation room, closed the door, and went to the lounge to look for Jiang Mingxue, but didn't see her.
Rong Chengzhou sat in Jiang Mingxue's chair and turned his head to look at him: "My wife went to take a shower. You can talk to me if you have something to say."
Yan Ze's voice was low and cold: "You don't understand the patient's condition."
Rong Chengzhou raised his eyebrows slightly, showing neither anger nor annoyance.
She slowly stood up and walked to stand in front of him.
Yan Ze is also over 1.8 meters tall, but because of his thin build, he looks like a child in front of Rong Chengzhou.
He spoke calmly: "I may not understand medical matters, but you probably don't know as much about the law as I do."
Yan Ze looked up at him: "What do you want to say?"
Rong Chengzhou didn't answer him, only saying indifferently:
"I won't tell her about your affairs, but don't even think about anything else."
His meaning couldn't be clearer: he disdained using underhanded means to force him to leave, but Yan Ze shouldn't even think about ruining their marriage.
The clinic was brightly lit, with only the sound of a shower coming from next door. The two men stood facing each other in the break room, seemingly separated by an invisible line, neither willing to back down.
Yan Ze's hands, hanging by his sides, clenched and unclenched, as if he was suppressing some kind of emotion.
After a long silence, a carefree smile curled at the corner of his lips, completely at odds with his usual aloof demeanor.
"You did have her before I did, but so what?"
You may not understand her as well as I do.
After saying the last word, he turned around and went to another consultation room to rest.
Rong Chengzhou stood still, his pupils suddenly contracting slightly as he pondered Yan Ze's last words.
Does she understand Yan Ze better?
He certainly doesn't seem to have.
Jiang Mingxue was completely unaware of the arrogant swordsman outside while she was in the bathroom. After showering and changing into clean clothes, she dried her hair in her room before coming out.
Seeing that Rong Chengzhou hadn't left yet, he asked, "Where are you going to rest tonight?"
There are hospital beds in the clinic. You can make do with a disposable medical sheet and sleep for one night, but you will definitely not sleep comfortably.
Rong Chengzhou's expression darkened slightly as he asked, "Where do you usually sleep?"
Jiang Mingxue then led him to her small room.
The small consultation room was simply furnished, with only a single bed less than a meter wide and a set of tables and chairs.
She looked at him with some difficulty: "This bed probably can't fit both of us."
Rong Chengzhou: "It's okay. I can rest in my car too."
Jiang Mingxue: "That works too."
Rong Chengzhou bent down, took off her shoes, helped her lie down, and covered her with the blanket: "Go to sleep. I'll leave after you fall asleep."
Jiang Mingxue nodded: "Mm."
Rong Chengzhou turned off the light and sat down next to her, keeping watch.
In the stillness of the night, Jiang Mingxue lay in bed, unable to sleep knowing that Rong Chengzhou was beside her.
By the moonlight, Rong Chengzhou saw that she was still awake: "Why aren't you asleep?"
"I just took a nap, but I'm not sleepy yet."
He reached up to tuck the blanket in, his voice softening: "Then how can you fall asleep?"
Jiang Mingxue didn't know either. She simply turned to face him and, relying on her senses, reached out a hand from under the covers, groping in the darkness.
Unable to see the scene in front of her, she first touched Rong Chengzhou's face, then moved her hand down.
Rong Chengzhou let her touch him without stopping her: "What are you looking for?"
Jiang Mingxue didn't speak. Her hand moved from his shoulder to his chest, and then to his arm.
After a difficult journey, he finally found Rong Chengzhou's hand on his lap and slowly slipped his fingers inside.
One, two... Before the third one was ready, Rong Chengzhou had already grabbed her hand.
The rings on their two ring fingers clinked softly in the darkness. He held her fingers firmly, his voice deep and resonant:
"If you want to hold hands next time, you can just tell me."
