Qingyun Peipei, that's me.

Qingyun Peipei, that's me.

As her gentle voice faded, Rong Chengzhou clearly heard his own heartbeat quicken.

It was the relief of learning that his wife and children were safe and sound, and the surprise of finding out they were twins.

But this joy lasted only a few seconds before turning into even deeper worry.

He carefully pulled Jiang Mingxue into his arms, his brow furrowed with worry: "But this will make things even harder for you."

Jiang Mingxue hugged his waist, their bodies intertwined, their hearts pounding: "It's okay. I originally hoped to have two children so that we could support each other like Huaijing and I did. That way, even if we don't have time, they can still keep each other company."

Rong Chengzhou let out a silent breath, hugged her tighter, his throat tightening slightly: "Thank you, Peipei."

--

After completing their prenatal checkup at the hospital, the couple returned home and shared the good news with their elders. The Rong and Jiang families were already filled with joy at the impending arrival of a new life, and upon learning that it was twins, their happiness was compounded.

General Rong was also surprised by this. The Rong family had only one son for three generations, and he thought this time it would definitely be another big, fat boy. He didn't expect that the law of heredity would be broken by Rong Chengzhou. He was so happy that he insisted on coming to Songyunting to visit his granddaughter-in-law at his old age.

So the two families met at the couple's bridal chamber without prior arrangement. Six elders and four younger relatives were present. The group sat around in the living room, discussing how they would take care of Jiang Mingxue, who was pregnant with twins, while Rong Chengzhou was away for the next few months.

Fortunately, the houses in Songyunting are large, otherwise they would feel a bit cramped.

"How about I move in tomorrow? I don't have anything to do at home anyway," Ren Rushuang volunteered.

Su Yun felt sorry for her daughter and held Jiang Mingxue's hand tightly, saying, "I can come too."

"Ah..." Jiang Mingxue opened her lips, instinctively wanting to refuse, but was too embarrassed to speak.

Rong Chengzhou, sitting on her other side, spoke up at the opportune moment: "Mom, I'll still be home tomorrow."

Ren Rushuang glanced at him: "What use are you at home? Can a grown man know as much as I and A-Yun?"

Rong Chengzhou was speechless; this wasn't the first or second time he'd been rebuffed by his own mother.

Jiang Mingxue didn't want both families to focus their attention on her: "I work during the day, Chengzhou comes back on weekends, and Aunt Lian takes care of me at home in the evenings. There's no need for such a big hassle."

"Besides, both babies are doing very well so far, and I haven't had any adverse reactions yet. Maybe I should wait until my late pregnancy to consider this?"

Grandpa Jiang nodded: "Mingxue is right. We shouldn't put too much pressure on her. Her mood is very important during pregnancy."

Ren Rushuang: "Alright, then Ayun and I will come over in five or six months."

Jiang Mingxue nodded repeatedly: "Okay, thank you, Mom."

The two families hadn't seen each other for several months since the wedding, and since Rong Chengzhou happened to be home, they took this opportunity to get together.

Jiang Huaijing was the happiest of all when he heard the news: "Sister, you and brother-in-law are so busy and you had two kids at once, you definitely won't be able to take care of them all. Luckily, we have some free time, so we can help you take care of one for free."

Before Jiang Mingxue could speak, Su Yun retorted, "With me and your Aunt Ren here, do we need you?"

Jiang Huaijing scoffed, "Look at what you're saying. Young people these days have different ideas about raising children than you did before. I'm just worried that the kids you raise will be old-fashioned and lack energy."

Shi Yunshu pinched him from the side: "Speak properly."

Jiang Huaijing touched his nose: "Oh."

Jiang Mingxue chuckled and took Su Yun's arm: "It's okay, Mom. It's really not easy to take care of two kids. We might have to trouble Huaijing and Yunshu to help us take care of them."

Jiang Huaijing said proudly, "That's right, maybe my nephew and niece will prefer to come to my house to play then."

Jiang Huaijing was just speaking casually at the time, never expecting that his words would later become a prophecy, turning into a sharp boomerang that struck him right between the eyebrows.

His eldest nephew not only liked to visit his home, but he also liked to play with his wife even more, and even abducted his adopted daughter.

The more eager you are to snatch a child now, the more regretful you will be when you are all alone later.

--

The two families gathered at home for dinner before going back. Aunt Lian tidied up the house outside, while Jiang Mingxue took her pajamas to take a shower, and Rong Chengzhou went in with her.

The first three months are the danger period. Fearing that Jiang Mingxue might slip while taking a shower, an anti-slip mat was placed in the bathroom. However, Rong Chengzhou was still worried and insisted on showering with her.

Although they don't do much, they always spend a long time in the bathroom because they shower together.

The bathroom was filled with steam. Jiang Mingxue stood under the shower and grabbed the man's arm. Rong Chengzhou squeezed out a pump of shampoo and poured it onto her wet hair, gently massaging it for her.

The shirt on the chest was mostly soaked by the showerhead, the dark fabric clinging tightly to the ribs, outlining a clear, bony silhouette.

The collar of the soaked shirt drooped down a bit, and water droplets still clung to the exposed collarbone, making it almost too hot to look at.

With broad shoulders, a narrow waist, and well-defined, firm chest and abdominal muscles, he was unsettling to look at, causing one's cheeks to flush.

But Jiang Mingxue only dared to look at him directly, not daring to look down.

During pregnancy, estrogen levels rise significantly, and taking a bath together is torturous not only for him but also for her.

At times like these, she couldn't help but feel fortunate that Rong Chengzhou could only come back on weekends.

Thinking of this, I couldn't help but glance down, then quickly looked away as if I'd been burned by a hot iron.

Her thick eyelashes fluttered twice, and she asked, feigning composure, "Rong Chengzhou...aren't you in pain?"

The man gently massaged her hair roots with his fingertips, his voice husky and damp as he spoke: "It's alright, it often happened when we first moved in."

"..." This tone, which carried a hint of accusation, made Jiang Mingxue feel a little guilty.

Thinking back to how she had thought Rong Chengzhou was impotent and had recklessly slept in the same bed with him, even unconsciously making some provocative gestures towards him, Jiang Mingxue couldn't help but admire Rong Chengzhou's amazing self-control.

The hand that was gripping his arm slowly moved down, her voice trembling slightly as she spoke: "How about I help you?"

They've been married for so long, and she's never touched him there.

She had just moved to his waist when a warm hand grasped hers: "No need."

Rong Chengzhou moved her hand back to its original position and said gently, "Your hands are for healing."

Such clean hands shouldn't be used to help him with his physiological needs.

A gentle ripple stirred in Jiang Mingxue's tender heart, and she couldn't help but step forward, wrapping her arms around his lean waist.

Her head gently rested against the man's firm chest, the foam from her hair rubbing against his clothes, leaving a white stain on the black fabric.

Rong Chengzhou paused slightly, then gently put his elbow around her and coaxed her softly, "Peipei, I can't reach you anymore. I'll hug you after I'm done washing, okay?"

Jiang Mingxue refused, burying her head even deeper into his arms, somewhat unreasonably saying, "I want to be held now."

Rong Chengzhou chuckled, reached under the showerhead to rinse off the foam, and then pulled her into his arms.

He trailed off slightly, then replied helplessly, "Okay, I'll hug you now."

Jiang Mingxue was content, nestled in his arms, the water from the shower falling on their shoulders, splashing up tiny droplets.

The warm water flowed around them, weaving a mist that mingled with the fragrance of her hair, casting their embracing shadows on the misty glass of the washbasin.

The two of them were all lovey-dovey while showering, and even though they didn't do anything in the bathroom, they still stayed there for almost two hours.

After she finished showering, Rong Chengzhou had her sit on the edge of the bed and used a hairdryer to dry her hair. Then he brought a cup of hot milk from the living room and placed it on the bedside table. He also filled a thermos with hot water so she could drink it if she got thirsty in the middle of the night.

Jiang Mingxue leaned against the headboard, holding a cup of milk and watching him busy himself around the room.

When Zhou Chengzhou wasn't home, she did all these things herself.

When he got home, he took over all these responsibilities, and she became like a neglected child.

At first, she wasn't used to this, because she didn't want to become a parasitic plant that couldn't be independent without his care. But she also knew better than anyone that Rong Chengzhou felt guilty, so he wanted to do as much for her as possible while he was by her side.

Not wanting to put too much pressure on him, I let him be.

After finishing his chores with her, he went into the bathroom to dry his hair, then went to bed and held her as they lay down to sleep.

This continued for the next few months.

As the months went by, Jiang Mingxue's belly grew bigger and bigger. Because she was carrying twins, it was much more noticeable than a belly for a single pregnancy. However, Jiang Mingxue was quite thin, so the size of her twin pregnancy was about the same as that of other women carrying a single pregnancy, which had a much smaller impact on her work and life.

However, sitting for long periods can cause discomfort in the coccyx, so when she sees patients at the clinic, she gets up and moves around every two hours.

The doctors at the clinic took great care of her, voluntarily helping her with many patients. Her apprentices were also always there for her, and everyone was doing their best to protect her and the two babies in her womb.

By the eighth month, her belly was becoming increasingly noticeable. Even wearing loose clothes, Jiang Mingxue couldn't hide the bulge in her lower abdomen. During a break after seeing several patients, she stood up and took a slow walk in the clinic. Xu Yan came in carrying a water bottle and asked worriedly, "Sister Ming, is your back starting to feel uncomfortable again?"

Jiang Mingxue held her lower back and shook her head with a smile: "No, I just stood up and stretched a bit."

"That's good." Xu Yan was relieved and poured some water into her cup, handing it to her. "Drink some hot water."

Jiang Mingxue took it: "Thank you."

Xu Yan asked, "By the way, Sister Ming, when will your husband be able to take paternity leave?"

Jiang Mingxue held onto the consultation table with one hand and a cup in the other: "It will take another half a month."

After ten months of pregnancy and one month of postpartum recovery, Rong Chengzhou had applied for the highest level of maternity leave, but it was only three months long.

Xu Yan sighed: "Then you'll have to hold on for another month."

Jiang Mingxue smiled easily and said, "I have two mothers at home who take turns taking care of me, so it's okay if he doesn't come back."

"Stop talking about me, what about you? How are things going with Kaiyu lately?"

Upon hearing this, Xu Yan's face flushed red, and she said stiffly, "What are you saying, Sister Ming? There's nothing between me and him."

Jiang Mingxue chuckled: "Kaiyu has asked me about you several times already, how long do you plan to keep hiding?"

Her cheeks flushed bright red instantly, Xu Yan was both ashamed and angry: "How can this person have such a big mouth!"

Jiang Mingxue couldn't help but chuckle, so she stopped teasing her and asked her seriously, "Weren't you planning to find a pilot boyfriend? Why don't you want to anymore?"

When this matter was mentioned, Xu Yan was troubled. She sighed and replied, "It's not that I'm unwilling, it's that my family doesn't want me to marry someone much older than me. Xing Kaiyu is already 29 this year, and he has to get married by next year at the latest, but I'm not even 25 yet. Besides, my family wants to observe him for a while longer and doesn't want me to get married so soon."

Jiang Mingxue understood. She had overlooked this issue before. Xing Kaiyu was five years older than Xu Yan. From another perspective, when Xing Kaiyu went to university, Xu Yan was still in junior high school. The age gap was indeed quite large, so it was no wonder that Xu Yan's family did not agree.

"Sister Ming, what should I do?" Xu Yan asked, distressed.

Jiang Mingxue thought for a moment, then raised her hand and patted her shoulder: "In this situation, I suggest you listen to your parents' arrangements, investigate the other person's character more thoroughly, and don't make a hasty decision."

"Okay, Sister Ming." Xu Yan was taken aback by her words. There was nothing wrong with what she said, but something felt off.

As for what was strange, Jiang Mingxue knew it better than anyone—

The negative example of getting married after meeting someone for only one day is now being used to educate young women to listen to their parents and carefully consider their marriage partners.

--

That evening, a heavy rain fell in the north of the city, and the wind howled past the window, its sound sending shivers down one's spine.

With a dull ache in her pubic bone, Jiang Mingxue carefully walked to the side of the bed, supporting her waist. She lifted the blanket and lay flat on the bed, covered herself up, and finally managed to fall asleep despite the pain. However, she was awakened by a clap of thunder in her drowsy state.

Just as she heard thunder outside the window, she felt a gentle push on her lower abdomen. It was the baby kicking her, and the force was quite noticeable. Jiang Mingxue could tell that it was the larger baby kicking her.

She reached out and turned on the bedside lamp, gently stroking her belly as she softly said, "Baby, don't be afraid, Mommy's here."

Mother and child are connected at heart, and the baby seemed to sense her movements. The baby in her belly gradually calmed down and stopped kicking.

Jiang Mingxue was very gratified. Her two babies were very well-behaved and obedient, which saved her a lot of suffering as a mother.

However, twins inevitably carry a heavier burden than singletons, and the pain in the pubic area not only didn't subside but was even more pronounced on rainy nights. The pubic bones, located on either side of the lower abdomen, are a pair of bones in the anterior part of the pelvis, and the pain was caused by pressure from the fetus.

Aside from occasional morning sickness, this was the biggest adverse reaction Jiang Mingxue experienced in the later stages of her pregnancy, an unavoidable situation given her twin pregnancy.

Jiang Mingxue frowned deeply, supporting her swollen belly, and leaned against the headboard, unable to sleep.

The phone on the bedside table rang with a message notification. Jiang Mingxue picked it up and glanced at it; it was from Rong Chengzhou.

The two had just finished a voice call before going to bed and chatted for a while. Only an hour later, he sent another message.

[CM]: Peipei, are you asleep?

[Jiang Mingxue]: Not yet, soon. Why aren't you asleep yet?

[CM]: I just saw the weather forecast that there will be heavy rain in the city. I'm worried that you might be scared sleeping alone.

[Jiang Mingxue]: It's okay, Mom is next door with me, and Aunt Lian is also at home, so don't worry.

[CM]: Hmm, did the baby kick you?

[Jiang Mingxue]: I kicked them a little, but they've quieted down now. They're all very well-behaved.

[CM]: That's good. How are you feeling now? Is there any discomfort in your lower back?

Jiang Mingxue felt unwell; her lower back and back were uncomfortable, but she still typed on her phone:

I'm fine, I don't feel unwell at all.

The rain had just started at the air force base. Rong Chengzhou sat at his desk and felt relieved when he saw her reply.

[CM]: I'll call you and sleep with you.

He then pressed the voice call icon.

Jiang Mingxue saw the pop-up call interface and, in her nervousness, felt a sharp pain in her pubic bone, causing her to gasp.

Rong Chengzhou would definitely notice her state of mind, so she hung up the phone without thinking.

Aside from the occasional time when she was busy and no one answered, this was the first time she had hung up on him, and Rong Chengzhou couldn't help but frown.

[CM]: What's wrong?

[Jiang Mingxue]: My phone is out of battery and it's getting really hot. I'll call again tomorrow.

Rong Chengzhou leaned back in his chair, pondered for a few seconds while looking at his phone, and replied:

【CM】:Okay, then you should get some rest.

[Jiang Mingxue]: Okay, goodnight.

After casually replying to Jiang Mingxue's message, Rong Chengzhou turned around and made a phone call to his mother, waking Madam Rong from her sleep.

"Hey, what's wrong, Chengzhou?" Ren Rushuang asked, yawning, as her beauty nap was interrupted.

Rong Chengzhou's voice was cold and deep: "Mom, Peipei seems to be feeling unwell. Could you please go and check on her for me?"

Ren Rushuang immediately woke up, got up and casually threw on a coat: "Oh, okay, okay, I'll be right there."

On the other side, Jiang Mingxue leaned against the headboard and finished replying to Rong Chengzhou's message, letting out a sigh of relief.

Just as she was about to lie down, a tearing pain shot through her pubic bone, even more intense than before. Her entire leg stiffened, and she froze in place, only able to breathe softly. Only when the pain subsided did she dare to support her waist with her hands and slowly adjust her position.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the bedroom door. Madam Rong did not knock but turned the doorknob and came in. She immediately saw the dimly lit headboard, where Jiang Mingxue was struggling to move her heavy body. Her fair forehead was tightly furrowed and covered with a thin layer of sweat.

He was taken aback when she came in, and asked with his lips slightly parted, "Mom, what brings you here?"

Ren Rushuang was heartbroken and quickly walked over to help her lie down. She scolded her gently, "Why didn't you call me when you were in so much pain? If Chengzhou hadn't called me, I would still be fast asleep like an idiot."

Jiang Mingxue immediately understood, smiled helplessly, and sighed softly: "Nothing can be hidden from him."

Ren Rushuang asked, "Is your pubic bone hurting again?"

Jiang Mingxue nodded, feigning a relaxed tone: "A little."

Ren Rushuang understood her daughter-in-law's personality; if she could utter the word "a little," it meant she was in excruciating pain.

She sat on the side of the bed, massaging her lower back as she said, "Chengzhou is no use. You can hide it from him, but I'm right next to you. You can't hide your discomfort from me either."

Jiang Mingxue said apologetically, "You've worked so hard taking care of me these past two months, I don't want you to be too tired."

"You're such a sensible child." Ren Rushuang was both angry and heartbroken. "What is this little bit of tiredness compared to carrying two children? As long as you and the children are both well, I can smile no matter how tired I am."

Jiang Mingxue felt a warmth in her heart and obediently said, "Then I'll tell you if it hurts again next time."

Ren Rushuang nodded: "That's right."

Pregnant women are not most afraid of pain, but of affecting the baby's development. They are in excruciating pain but cannot take painkillers and can only endure it.

Ren Rushuang, being an experienced woman, knew about such matters. She massaged her while chatting with her to distract her.

However, pubic bone pain is a continuous process and cannot be eliminated in a short time. Jiang Mingxue was embarrassed to let her elders massage her for too long, so she told them that it didn't hurt after less than an hour and sent them home.

The rain grew heavier and heavier, and the thunder continued.

Jiang Mingxue lay alone on the large bed, huddled under the covers, her arm laboriously reaching down to her lower abdomen, pressing it gently, though her pregnant belly made the movement difficult.

The sound of the door turning came again. In the dim light, it was hard to see clearly, so she assumed it was Madam Rong returning. She quickly withdrew her hand from her lower abdomen and looked in the direction of the sound: "Mom, is there anything else?"

A few steps away, instead of Madam Rong's voice, a disheveled figure slowly walked out.

Damp as he entered her view, his deep voice, mingled with the sound of rain, echoed in the room:

“Peipei, it’s me.”

Dressed in black, he blended into the deep night, with raindrops still clinging to his shoulders. As he approached, one could almost smell the damp earth outside the window.

Jiang Mingxue was in a daze for a while when she heard his voice.

She leaned against the headboard, stunned, blinking slowly, thinking she was hallucinating from the pain.

She spends five nights out of every seven days alone. Today is only Tuesday, and there are still three days until he goes home. Why would he suddenly appear?

When Rong Chengzhou saw her like this, his heart felt like it was being squeezed, and he felt so painful that he couldn't breathe.

If it hadn't rained tonight and he hadn't asked her a few more questions, she doesn't know how she would have had to bear all this pain alone.

His wife has always been so considerate and thoughtful of others.

Even though she was in so much pain that she was almost losing consciousness, she didn't want anyone to worry about her and refused to tell anyone around her.

I was afraid he would feel guilty and uneasy if he knew, so I chose to bear it alone and tell him:

She's fine, don't worry.

Fearing that his mother was too tired, he bent over halfway to relieve his pain, even though he was not fully recovered.

His hands, hanging by his sides, clenched involuntarily, and Rong Chengzhou's shoulders, which had been tense all night, slumped down instantly.

In my fourteen years of military service, I have never felt so powerless as I do now.

He stared intently at his wife on the bed. Even though she was carrying two eight-month-old fetuses, she still looked so thin and frail, making him feel an overwhelming pity for her.

His throat tightened slightly. He took a few steps closer and called out to her again:

“Peipei, it’s me.”

A tall, broad figure loomed above her, the crisp scent of cedar enveloped her, and then a familiar, deep voice sounded above her, bringing Jiang Mingxue back to her senses.

She stared at him intently, opened her lips, and spoke in a voice as weak as a feather falling to the ground:

"Rong Chengzhou, why did you suddenly come back?"

"I came back because I wanted to see you."

He answered casually, but Jiang Mingxue knew how fast he would have to travel to get back in an hour, a journey that would normally take nearly two hours, and how much danger he would have to face in the muddy, rainy weather.

Rong Chengzhou walked to the bedside, raised his hand to hug her, but was afraid that the rain on his clothes would make her sick, so he paused for two seconds in mid-air and then withdrew his hand.

He took off his outer garment, bent down, and placed several pillows beside her to support her body.

Then he sat on the side of the bed and massaged her lumbar spine and lower abdomen through her clothes, his cold, deep voice becoming exceptionally gentle: "Sleep, I'll stay with you."

Jiang Mingxue shook her head, staring at him intently: "Will you be punished for coming back like this?"

She was terrified that he would be punished again because of her.

Rong Chengzhou freed one hand, pulled out a tissue to wipe the sweat from her forehead, and smoothed her sweat-dampened hair to one side before saying softly, "No. There are no important missions these two days. I'll be back before dawn. You can sleep peacefully and don't worry about me."

Jiang Mingxue felt a little relieved, but the thought of him leaving again after tonight made her reluctant to go to sleep.

Rong Chengzhou lowered his eyes to massage her lower back and abdomen. When he looked up, he saw that she was still awake and asked, "Don't you need to go to the clinic tomorrow?"

Jiang Mingxue: "Of course I'll use it."

She doesn't have many patients at the clinic right now, so her workload isn't heavy. Besides, she doesn't want to stay cooped up at home all the time; lying down just makes her more uncomfortable. It's better for her to move around at the clinic and talk to other people, which will make her feel better.

He glanced at her and said, "So why aren't you asleep yet? Do you want to see patients with dark circles under your eyes?"

Although it was a word of reproach, it came out of his mouth with particular gentleness.

Jiang Mingxue showed no remorse whatsoever, and even smiled broadly, saying, "Dark circles are dark circles. You're leaving at dawn, so I want to see you a little longer."

Rong Chengzhou chuckled: "After half a month, I'll let you see me every day. It's late now, if you don't go to sleep, you won't be able to get up tomorrow."

Jiang Mingxue said "Oh," and obediently closed her eyes: "Okay then."

A few seconds later she opened her eyes again, her watery eyes gazing at him.

Rong Chengzhou frowned slightly, his worry almost overflowing from his eyes: "Are you still in pain and unable to sleep?"

Jiang Mingxue shook her head: "No, it doesn't hurt that much anymore."

"It suddenly occurred to me that we should prepare a few names for the baby."

Rong Chengzhou nodded slightly: "I've been looking up names in books these days. I'll prepare a few names, and you can decide on the one that suits you best."

Jiang Mingxue liked this kind of job where she didn't have to do anything but could still make decisions, and continued to smile: "Okay."

The wind, rain, and thunder outside the window gradually subsided. Rong Chengzhou sat by the bedside and waited until she fell into a deep sleep before removing his massaging hands.

I stayed with her all night, only managing to get a short hour of sleep before dawn.

The car was borrowed from the military. Rong Chengzhou rushed back at dawn, and when Jiang Mingxue opened her eyes, he was no longer by the bedside.

Although he didn't sleep for long, he slept soundly for the last few hours because Rong Chengzhou was with him, and he wasn't very sleepy when he was seeing patients during the day.

Half a month later, Rong Chengzhou's scheduled maternity leave finally arrived. By then, Jiang Mingxue's belly was already 32 weeks along and becoming increasingly noticeable.

Even when Rong Chengzhou was at home, his mother and Su Yun took turns keeping watch in the guest room of Songyunting, so that they could take care of him in time in case he went into premature labor.

Jiang Mingxue finally gave birth in mid-July, a month early.

On the day she felt contractions, she was sitting at the examination table taking the pulse of a patient with chronic gastritis.

Seeing her furrowed brows, the patient thought he was terminally ill: "Dr. Jiang, don't scare me!"

Jiang Mingxue forced a smile, afraid of frightening the patient, and insisted on taking his pulse before writing a prescription:

"It's nothing serious. You'll recover after taking these medicines."

The patient was overjoyed: "Okay, okay, that's good, thank you Dr. Jiang."

After Xu Yan brought the medicine over, she didn't leave. She finally saw the patient off, pushed all the remaining patients in line to other doctors, and then shouted to the male apprentice at the door, "Come quick! Help me get Sister Ming into the car and take her to the hospital!"

Before the group could scramble to help Jiang Mingxue into the car, Rong Chengzhou, who had received a call from Xu Yan ten minutes earlier, had already arrived at the clinic in his SUV. He got out of the car, carried Jiang Mingxue to the back seat, and had Xu Yan help her as they drove to the hospital.

Twins are difficult to deliver vaginally and must be delivered via cesarean section.

Rong Chengzhou carried her to the delivery room and wanted to go in, but the medical staff stopped him at the door, afraid of affecting the pregnant woman's mood, and refused to let him in no matter what they said.

He could only stand guard at the door with the others.

The delivery room was quickly surrounded by people. Because it was premature and the babies were twins, everyone's hearts were in their throats.

Holding a string of Buddhist prayer beads in her hand, Su Yun whispered, "Buddha above, please bless the mother and her two children so that they may be safe and sound."

Rong Chengzhou stood at the entrance of the delivery room, his well-defined fingers gripping the cold railing of the corridor, his knuckles so white they looked as if they were embedded in metal.

The ticking of the clock in the corridor seemed to strike his heart. Every faint sound coming from the delivery room made him suddenly look up at the tightly closed door, his Adam's apple bobbing unconsciously, and even his breathing rhythm became disordered.

I don't know how much time passed, but the light above the delivery room finally went out.

Rong Chengzhou stood there with his fists clenched, his eyes fixed on the door of the delivery room.

Finally, the two doors slowly opened to the sides, and two nurses emerged from the delivery room, each carrying a swaddled infant.

"Congratulations everyone! The mother and her two babies are all safe and sound. The mother gave birth to twins, a boy and a girl, and the boy was five minutes older than his sister."

When everyone heard the news, their hearts, which had been hanging in suspense, slowly settled.

At the same time, several medical staff pushed a hospital bed out of the room. Jiang Mingxue was lying on the bed, covered with a sterile blanket from the operating room. She looked tired and her face was pale and bloodless.

Rong Chengzhou was the first to see her and stepped forward to check on Jiang Mingxue's condition.

Everyone gathered around her, greeting her and showing concern for her.

The anesthesia hadn't worn off yet, so she couldn't hear clearly. She could only hear her mother's choked sobs and the concerned words of her family and friends.

The sweat on her forehead hadn't dried completely, the intense pain of labor hadn't fully subsided, and her vision was still somewhat blurry.

Until a large, warm hand reached out and gripped her hand tightly.

The hospital bed slowly moved forward, and Rong Chengzhou's cold and hard face slowly came into her view. He raised his hand and gently brushed away the messy hair on her forehead. He held her face carefully as if it were an extremely precious piece of porcelain, and lowered his head to kiss her forehead very lightly.

Amidst the baby's bright cries, she blinked and gradually made out his features, then froze in shock.

She didn't cry when she was pregnant, she didn't cry when she was enduring pubic bone pain alone, and she didn't cry when she received a 15-centimeter epidural in the delivery room.

But the moment I saw him, and his eyes reddened, my tears flowed uncontrollably.

-----------------------

Author's Note: I'll be taking care of the baby later on. Childbirth in a military marriage is different from that in ordinary families. Pregnancy is much more difficult. I don't want to gloss over the hardships Peipei went through, so I'll describe them in detail in one or two chapters.
