"Hey, are you okay?"
When Lu Ban saw the new green on the "Hound"'s hand, his heart skipped a beat.
The "Hound" looked at Lu Ban blankly, as if he didn't know what was going on.
The two had just emerged from the maze of weeds and came to the side of the bus.
The weeds that had been crushed by the wheels had now all stood up, trying to wrap around the bus.
Stone and Mary returned to the car, leaving only the door open, waiting for Lander and the Hound.
The two got in the car one after the other and closed the door tightly.
“Damn it.”
The Hound looked at his left hand.
The hand no longer looked human.
Bones, blood vessels, muscles, no longer exist.
All that was left were hard wood, lush grass and twisted vines.
His arms were gradually changing into plants.
In the blink of an eye, the Hound's entire left hand had turned into wood and quickly spread to his shoulder.
"Cut it off, cut it off quickly!"
The Hound barked hurriedly.
Compared to the whole person turning into a tree, it is obviously more acceptable to have a hand severed.
Lu Ban did not hesitate and directly picked up the knife that he had used to process rat meat and slashed at the upper arm of the "hound".
"!!!"
The knife sank into the flesh and cut the bone joint connecting the shoulder and upper arm, but it was difficult to penetrate further.
The "hound"'s face was ashen, and it was biting the ball of cloth made of torn clothes tightly, and only a faint whimpering sound came from its throat.
Lu Ban pulled out his knife, picked up the crowbar, and smashed it hard before the bark-like plant structure could spread.
Without any aiming, the hook of the crowbar accurately embedded into the wound of the "hound". The sharp end smashed the joint, causing the "hound's" left hand to go limp.
Lu Ban continued to move his knife and quickly cut off the "hound's" arm.
Gada——
The arm that had hardened into wood fell to the ground, and the little bit of flesh and blood that was left gradually faded, and even the blood that had flowed out quickly dried up and turned into green grass.
Lu Ban now knows how this grassland was formed.
I'm afraid that if those creatures stay here for a period of time, they will be eroded and infected by the green plants and eventually become part of the grassland.
Some of those creatures will be preserved as bait to attract other prey. This grassland is like a skilled hunter, quietly waiting for the prey to come to the door.
The weeds, the land, even the air, are all part of the hunt.
That's why there's no sound at all in this meadow.
"We need to leave as soon as possible."
Lu Ban said something, he came to the driver's seat and checked the condition of the vehicle.
Before checking whether the engine could still be started, Lu Ban discovered that green sprouts were beginning to emerge from the broken glass gap next to the driver's seat.
"Even lifeless machines can be infected by this grass..."
Lu Ban truly realized the seriousness of the matter.
He stepped on the accelerator and the engine roared to life.
Lu Ban placed both hands on the steering wheel, ready to break free from the confinement of the grass.
Lu Ban felt an itch on his arm and scratched it, but the itch was not relieved.
He looked over and suddenly discovered that on the inside of his arm, where the blue veins should have been, something was growing.
The thing was like a long, thin worm, crawling between the blood vessels and muscles.
Through the skin, one could clearly see that the green thing was trying to break through the barrier of the skin and come out. Lu Ban only felt extremely itchy and wanted to scratch, to cut open his own flesh and blood and dig out the things inside.
As he stepped on the accelerator, he looked back and saw that the bleeding on the shoulder of the "Hound" whose arm had been broken had stopped.
But no one helped him stop the bleeding.
"Oh shit!"
The Hound looked over his shoulder.
The cross-section of the wound has been covered with lush green plants. Those plants exuding vitality are now clinging to the shoulders of the "hound", forming a strange picture.
He could see something bulging and sinking on his chest and stomach. The "Hound" lifted up his clothes and saw that his originally muscular abdomen now looked like there were countless bugs messing around inside. There were bulges of green unknown objects, even on his neck and face.
“Damn it, damn it, damn it.”
The Hound's right hand scratched his neck and face, trying to relieve the uncontrollable itch, but his nails left bright red blood marks and failed to bring him any relief.
He kept scratching, his nails stained with blood and his skin ulcerated, but the protruding worm-like thing was always hiding deeper underneath.
The wheels of the bus were covered with green grass and were almost leaking air, but they finally started to spin.
The raised mud pushed the bus forward. Lu Ban gripped the steering wheel tightly and turned in the direction the bus was rolling.
“…”
Lu Ban glanced back again.
Shi Tou and Mary were at a loss as "bugs" seemed to begin to appear on their bodies. The "hound" was the worst hit, and his entire body began to twitch.
The bumps on his face seemed to have finally found a breakthrough. The Hound's eyes became cloudy, and a green color spread in the bottom of his eyes.
Puff——
With a slight sound, a new sprout grew out from under the Hound's eye.
Then, a little blood oozed from his nostrils, and another sprout emerged.
From his eyes, nose, mouth, and ears, more new buds finally found a place to vent. The bulges under the disordered skin squirmed towards these places and finally broke out of the body.
Puff——
Hearing the sound, Lu Ban turned around and saw that the "hound" had lost his agility. Several weeds grew out of his abdomen where his clothes were lifted up, as if it was the most perfect soil.
"Throw him down."
Lu Ban shouted towards Shi Tou and Mary.
The symptoms of the two were not serious yet. After hearing Lu Ban's words, they looked at each other and finally made up their minds to open the door of the bus.
The weeds outside suddenly seemed to have real life. They began to sway and grow wildly. The grass in front of the bus was even taller than the roof.
The two men threw the "hound's" body, which had become a bonsai, out of the car. In an instant, the body was swallowed up by the swaying weeds and could no longer be seen.
Lu Ban felt that the restless plants in his body seemed to calm down for a moment.
“These plants, they’re not just the part we see… The air here is part of it, too.”
Lu Ban probably guessed why they became like this, and why the "Hound" would fall to such a state just by being injured.
The air in this grassland is already filled with seeds. As long as one inhales the air, the seeds will enter the human body and continue to grow wildly and demonically. For injured people, these seeds will merge with the blood more quickly, and thus will grow more quickly into monsters that can take people's lives.
Lu Ban even guessed that the land was a mimicry of plants, and the entire area existed solely for hunting.
In this meadow, plants are the real masters.
“It’s almost there.”
When Lu Ban saw the road beyond the high beam, he said something, and his heart finally settled down.
At this moment, a white hand with sharp claws stretched out from the broken windshield.
