Chapter 119: The Spirit Shed

In the early morning, a ray of golden sunlight shone through the gap in the curtains and fell on Lu Ban's face.

The room was filled with sweet singing. The melody of "Unforgettable Tonight" was so catchy that even the dark shadow beside the bed seemed to be nodding its head, enjoying the music.

Lu Ban opened his eyes and saw an eye looking at him beside the pillow.

The eyeball with a bunch of hair at the end noticed that Lu Ban had woken up, and quickly shrank into the corner of the bed and could no longer be found.

After yawning, Lu Ban did not go back to sleep for a nap, but sat up.

After washing up, he went downstairs to buy breakfast. When he walked into the elevator, he suddenly thought of what happened last night.

"I don't know what happened to that old man."

He came downstairs and found several workers there, building a shed.

This is a mourning shed, which usually has its entrance and exit facing south. In some places, grand banquets are held and mahjong is played all night for several nights. However, Jiangcheng is highly urbanized, and the mourning shed only occupies a few parking spaces.

Smelling a strong scent of incense, Lu Ban looked at the portrait in the mourning shed curiously.

“…”

The portrait was of the old man I met last night.

"So, he went there last night?"

Lu Ban casually inquired and found out that the old man was over seventy years old and had not woken up since he fell asleep last night, so he was in good health.

"Let me burn some incense for him."

Lu Ban said to the family members.

"Who are you?"

The old man's family members seemed to have not yet recovered from the shock, and there were deep dark circles under their eyes.

"I live on the thirteenth floor, and I have met your father twice."

Lu Ban spoke the truth.

The family members did not stop them, after all, they were neighbors.

Lu Ban lit incense for the old man, and after offering sacrifices, he raised his head.

He saw that the old man was hanging upside down on the roof of the mourning shed, with his limbs lying on the black shed, staring at Lu Ban.

"Does your father have a habit of hanging upside down on the wall?"

Lu Ban suddenly asked a question, which startled the female family member. She looked up unconsciously and looked in the direction where Lu Ban was looking.

"Are you kidding me?"

She was a little confused.

"Are there any cabinets or boxes or something like that near the ceiling of your house?"

Lu Ban asked again.

"That's not clear..."

The woman mumbled something and seemed to remember something.

"I do have a cupboard in my house, but I haven't opened it in a long time."

"Why don't you open that cupboard when you have time? You might find something unexpected."

Lu Ban didn't explain too much. He took a last look at the old man on the ceiling and walked out of the mourning shed.

While eating breakfast, Lu Ban watched the news.

Lu Ban had no idea how many strange things there were in the city of Jiangcheng.

He has been studying here for several years and has never had a similar experience before.

Since coming to the Quiet Land, Lu Ban has seen many things he had never seen before.

After some research, Lu Ban felt that there might really be something wrong with Jiang Cheng.

This place has always been a battleground for military strategists since ancient times, with frequent wars. The number of people who have died here is definitely much greater than that of ordinary cities.

Coupled with the layout of Jiangcheng Grand Theater, which can attract great beings from the distant deep space, it is hard not to make some associations.

"It's impossible that there is something buried underground in Jiangcheng."

After breakfast, Lu Ban returned home and continued working.

He has been mainly working on the story outline of the entire film and finalizing the ending these past two days.

Some students may ask, don’t we have the materials? Why do we still need to organize an outline? Can’t we just string the materials together and upload them?

Actually, it’s not.

The roles of editing, storyboarding, and plot advancement in a movie are no less important than those of the script and actors.

Some movies may be mediocre in the first version, but the director's cut may be amazing. Some movies may have gorgeous special effects and awesome plots, but because of the fancy editing, they are completely incomprehensible.

Lu Ban doesn't need such superb skills. The essence of this movie is still a thriller adventure theme. It ends in a tragedy, which is enough to highlight the elements.

In the evening, Lu Ban stretched, stood up from the computer, and prepared to go downstairs to eat.

At this moment, his cell phone rang.

I looked at the caller ID and it was the old squad leader Feng Yu.

"Hello?"

Lu Ban answered the phone.

"Are you okay? I saw on the news today that the serial killer was caught yesterday. It seems he lives right over there where you live."

Feng Yu's voice sounded a little worried.

"No problem. In fact, I helped catch the serial killer. He broke into my house and I caught him red-handed. The police officers all praised me for my bravery."

Lu Ban spoke the truth.

"Haha, really? You are awesome then."

Feng Yu chuckled, but it was obvious that he didn't quite believe what Lu Ban said.

"By the way, you sent a message saying you were going to collect materials. Are you still working now?"

“It’s all taken.”

"So you're going to release a new video?"

"Almost, but it's not finished yet."

Lu Ban looked at his editing software.

"That's a shame. I was planning to go out for a meal or something during the Mid-Autumn Festival."

Feng Yu said casually.

"Aren't you going home for the Mid-Autumn Festival?"

Lu Ban remembered that Feng Yu didn't seem to be from Jiangcheng.

"No, I won't go back. My mom will arrange a blind date for me if I go home. It's so troublesome."

There was a hint of helplessness in Feng Yu's voice.

"You can avoid the first day, but you can't avoid the fifteenth."

Lu Ban answered seriously.

"...Do you have time to come out during the Mid-Autumn Festival?"

Feng Yu was stunned for a moment before forcibly ending the topic.

"Mid-Autumn Festival may not be a good idea, but October 1st is fine."

Lu Ban replied after symbolically looking at the calendar.

He pays attention to continuity in his work, and the film can be completed by October.

"Then let's go out for dinner on the 11th and watch a movie or something?"

"Okay."

Lu Ban thought about it and decided that since the old squad leader had invited him so sincerely, he had no reason to refuse. It was just a meal anyway and it wouldn't cost him anything.

The two chatted for a while before Lu Ban hung up the phone.

When he put on his shoes and went downstairs, he saw that funeral music was already playing in the mourning shed, and there were sounds of chanting sutras and reciting Buddhist scriptures.

After taking a look inside, Lu Ban did not find any trace of the old man, but discovered that the old man's daughter's eyes lit up when she saw him, and she quickly walked over.

"I went home at noon and opened the closet and looked inside. It was full of the old man's things."

Her expression was a little gloomy, and she took out a stack of things from her arms.

"Is it the passbook and the house certificate?"

Lu Ban asked curiously.

"no……"

The woman showed Lu Ban the stack of things.

It's a photo.

Old, yellowed photos.

There was a young couple inside, wearing clothes popular in that era, looking very young and beautiful.

There is also a family photo of a couple with their children, as well as some travel and daily photos.

But I don’t know since when, the wife disappeared, and only the man and the girl were left.

Turning to the back, almost all of them are photos of a cute little girl, including her infant, child, and student years. Just through these photos, you can feel the photographer's love for the girl.

It can be seen that the man here is the old man.

"My dad usually has a bad temper and doesn't want to talk to us. I always thought he disliked us, but I didn't expect..."

The woman was depressed and didn't know whether it was fortunate or unfortunate for her to find out all this after her father's death.

"How can there be parents who dislike their own children?"

Lu Ban smiled and waved goodbye to the woman.

Next to her, a hunchbacked old man stood in the sunset, and their shadows overlapped, just like in the photo, where the man with sad eyes forced a smile and pulled his daughter.

At that time and moment, just like this moment.
