"Yes, Director Lu Ban, our movie is about a few college students who were going to a remote town to shoot a horror thriller about local folklore. However, they encountered a terrifying incident and disappeared. Many years later, another group of people found their videotapes."
The tallest boy explained in the car that he was driving and his driving skills were pretty good for his age. The surrounding scenery was flying behind him, which was a feast for the eyes.
The New England region is cold and humid in winter. Due to its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, once it is not sunny, the air will be filled with the smell of the humid sea. In some extreme cases, there will be thick fog that obscures the vision. When driving in this wilderness, you must be careful.
The scenery on both sides of the road is monotonous and boring. Occasionally, you can see some strangely shaped stones, which is the most noteworthy scenery.
The RV was quite spacious and could sleep six people. After driving out of the airport, Lu Ban got to know these college students along the way.
The person driving the car was the leader of this trip, named James. He also rented the RV here. His family seemed to be quite wealthy, and he was very generous in everything he said and did.
His girlfriend is the blonde girl named Valerie, who studies film art and has a hot body. She is sitting in the passenger seat playing with her cell phone.
The boy wearing glasses is Wes. He looks like he knows everything and has a good relationship with everyone.
The volleyball player-like boy mentioned earlier is Scott. He is taciturn and seems to be always thinking. His occasional words are concise and hit the mark.
The brown-haired girl is called Talia. She is enthusiastic and cheerful, holding a can of beer in her hand. It seems that drinking during the day is a common thing for her.
"To be honest, Director Lu Ban, I referred to "In the Mouth of a Madman" when I was creating this story. I feel that the story that interweaves reality and fantasy can make the audience feel more involved! This pseudo-documentary format is also quite interesting."
James said as he drove.
"Is this the script you wrote?"
Lu Ban asked.
"No, I just had the idea, and the one who actually wrote the script was Scott, he's really good at this stuff."
When his name was called, the boy smiled shyly.
"Director Lu Ban, do you have any opinions on our script?"
The brown-haired lady, Talia, asked. She sat next to Lu Ban and moved a little closer while speaking, with her arm touching Lu Ban's sleeve.
“It’s great for low-budget films to use more unique narratives. Perhaps you can try to record your current journey as well, which would add to the sense of reality.”
Lu Ban said a few simple words.
After hearing Lu Ban's words, several people suddenly realized something. Scott immediately stood up and rummaged through the shaky RV for filming equipment. He quickly took out a camera, turned it on, and started filming.
"Uh, Director Lu Ban, if you don't mind, can we put you in the movie?"
Weiss, the boy wearing glasses, asked.
"Of course, but I'm just a cameo. You are the real protagonists of the movie."
Lu Ban laughed.
It takes a day and a night to drive from the airport to Miskatoc. In the evening, after eating fast food pizza, the sun sets and it becomes completely dark around.
"It's getting foggy."
James, sitting on a chair with a glass of juice in his hand, said that Wes was driving now. The three boys took turns driving and were not allowed to drink. Wes's driving skills were slightly inferior to James', so his speed was naturally much slower.
Lu Ban looked out the window. The desolate world was shrouded in thick fog. The white mist reminded him of the forest in the Kingdom of Night.
"Will it be so foggy tonight? Turn on the lights. I don't want to run into those drunk guys on the way."
James shouted. They occasionally encountered cars coming from the opposite direction along the way, but very few were heading to Miskatoke. This was normal. If they did not set out at the same time, then cars going in the same direction would be like in a rally. Under normal circumstances, they would keep a similar distance and would never encounter each other.
However, such heavy fog is rare even in New England. Talia opened the car window and a cool breeze blew, with a damp and fishy smell like the sea or lake.
"Close it, it's too cold."
Valerie said, but Talia didn't do it.
"It's nice to have some fresh air, isn't it?"
She took another sip of the beer in the can. Probably because her body felt hot after drinking, she wanted to get some fresh air.
"I said turn it off. I don't want to catch a cold at night."
Valerie emphasized, and was about to stand up to help the other party force the window closed.
"It's better to turn it off and turn on the heater."
Scott tried to smooth things over. After he persuaded her, Talia reluctantly closed the window and sat back in the house.
It seems that the relationship between them is not as good as imagined.
Lu Ban thought to himself.
He was not very interested in this awkward relationship between college students. He just wanted to go to Miskatoke as soon as possible to see how Feng Yu was doing.
But after the car drove for a while, the speed suddenly slowed down again.
"Damn, is there not enough oil?"
Wes cursed and checked the instruments but couldn't figure out what was going on.
"What's wrong?"
James asked.
"I don't know. There's no response when I step on the accelerator. Should there be enough gas in the tank?"
Weiss asked back.
"Of course, didn't we both watch it together?"
James came to the co-pilot's seat and checked it out.
"There seems to be a town ahead. Let's stop there and check."
He looked for a while and didn't find any clues, but he noticed the lights on in the white fog in front of him, so he said.
The RV stopped quickly and Lu Ban looked out the window. This was not a small town, but a few houses.
It looked like the house of a nearby farmer. The fog lights were very conspicuous in this foggy day. As for the house, only the first floor was dimly lit, which looked a bit weird.
"I don't feel well, we shouldn't get out of the car."
Valerie looked a little pale, she said.
"What are you afraid of?"
Talia sneered with disdain. She opened the car door and got out. The fog quickly enveloped her, leaving only a hazy figure.
Wes and James also got out of the car. They checked the engine and transmission and quickly found the problem.
"It's true that there is no engine oil. How come we didn't notice this problem?"
James was surprised. He went back to the car and looked around, but couldn't find any spare oil.
"This damn rental company, I should have thought of it earlier."
He cursed and turned his attention to the room in front.
"Let's go ask that family and see if they can get us some motor oil."
