"You can't go to Miskatoke."
The old woman's words echoed in the room, causing James's cold sweat, which had just been wiped off, to break out again.
She was like an owl, staring at James and the others with her head turned. Valerie hid directly behind James, very alert. The drunk Talia suddenly sobered up a little. She looked at the old woman, not daring to speak.
"What happened to Miskatoke?"
James asked curiously.
"It's not a good place. It's xenophobic and closed. They don't welcome outsiders."
The old woman muttered, glancing at the camera in Scott's hand again.
"My son also loved movies. His twelfth birthday present was a video camera, and he shot a lot of videos."
She turned back and continued slicing the bacon with the kitchen knife in her hand.
"In the cabinet under the TV, they are all his photos. He has also made movies before. You may be interested."
After cutting the meat, the old woman turned on the stove, heated the pan, and poured a little oil, apparently preparing to fry bacon and ham.
"Really? Then he really is a movie lover."
James said as he came to the TV cabinet. The TV there was quite old, almost the oldest color TV he had ever seen.
In the TV cabinet, there are many videotapes with words such as "birthday", "travel" and "field" labeled on them. They look like home videos.
As we continue reading, we see shocking and vicious words such as "curse", "sin" and "zombie party". Considering what the old woman said, this might be a movie shot by her son.
B-movies and personal films are the starting point for many directors, especially in Western countries. Many times young people will receive cameras as their birthday gifts. Interested ones will use them to record their lives and shoot low-cost personal films, such as the famous Spielberg.
The creative styles of many well-known directors in the future are also mixed with many traces of their youth. Some directors even get tired of making blockbusters and turn to making some B-level movies for fun.
In B-movies, horror and thriller themes are evergreen. Under the constraints of low budgets, science fiction and fantasy blockbusters are obviously not feasible, and bland love art films are not eye-catching enough. Thrillers, horror, crime, and violence themes have become the darlings of B-movies, and even became synonymous with B-movies.
It seems that this young man also likes horror themes.
James continued to scan and found that there was a note on one of the videotapes that was troubling.
It says "Film Festival" on it.
"It's a pity that he has passed away."
Suddenly, the old woman's cold words came from behind James.
He was startled and turned around quickly, only to see that the old woman had come behind him silently without him noticing.
James glanced at his girlfriend Valerie who was not far away, somewhat complaining that she didn't remind him, but the blonde girl looked innocent and she didn't notice when the old woman came over.
"Dead?"
Thalia asked, standing by the window.
"Yes, an accident, a tragic accident. He died in Miskatoke, at the film festival, and all I got was this videotape."
The old woman walked past James, reached out and pulled out the videotape from the cabinet.
"Do you want to see it?"
She asked faintly.
James swallowed, to be honest, he really didn't want to watch this thing.
He didn't know whether the old woman's son really died in an accident or something else. He felt that the old woman was neurotic and might stab him at any time, so he didn't want to get too involved.
"It's better not to..."
James refused.
"sure."
At this moment, Lu Ban suddenly spoke, causing James to shudder.
"We are very interested in the Miskatoc Film Festival and are planning to create a film related to the festival. I believe this video can give us some inspiration."
Lu Ban said seriously.
"Director Lu Ban?"
James didn't understand Lu Ban's thoughts and couldn't help but ask back.
"That's great, he will definitely be happy."
The old woman turned around and stuffed the videotape into Lu Ban's hand.
"I'll give you this videotape."
"Is it really possible?"
Lu Ban took the videotape and took a look at it. There were some signs of wear on the plastic casing of the videotape. They didn't look like the bumps and scratches from daily use, but more like scratches left by some creature's claws.
"If there's an audience for what he shoots, he'll be happy."
The old woman replied.
Lu Ban nodded.
"Hey, I found some motor oil, James, come give me a hand."
Suddenly, Wes's voice came from the door, slightly easing the weird atmosphere at the scene.
"Oh, ok, okay."
James stood up, took one more look at the TV cabinet, and then hurriedly followed Wes to repair the vehicle.
His girlfriend Valerie followed closely behind, seemingly unwilling to stay in the room for long.
“Can I take a picture of this?”
Scott asked, pointing to the TV cabinet.
The old woman did not stop him and went back to the kitchen to continue cooking dinner.
The room was soon filled with the aroma of meat.
Scott took careful photos of the room, then moved the camera to the TV cabinet and the videotapes.
He randomly picked up a videotape labeled "Field", put it in the player, turned on the TV, and after a burst of snow, the picture appeared.
"Hey, this is a field with corn in it. I don't like corn very much, but they can be sold for money."
A voice came from the TV. I didn't know if it was a problem with the projector or the TV. The voice was filled with noise, like a radio that was severely interfered with. The picture was also intermittent. Even though it was shot during the day, it felt dark, like before a storm.
"I met some wonderful friends in the cornfield, and I plan to leave some records for them."
The sound continues and the camera gradually moves deeper into the cornfield.
The towering corn blocks most of the view, with only small paths separating the blocks, giving people a strong sense of oppression.
"Look, they're in there."
A hand appeared in the picture, pointing forward, but perhaps because of this action, the camera shifted slightly downward, and was unable to capture the position he was pointing to at the first time.
But the photographer quickly adjusted.
Just as the camera moved up and the curious answer was about to be revealed, a face appeared on the TV.
"!!!"
Talia couldn't help but scream. His face was as pale as a dead person. He lay quietly in the cornfield. The corn around him was crushed by unknown things, forming a strange open space.
"Hello, Geralt?"
The voice appeared again, and the hand gently patted the face of the person lying on the ground, but the other person did not respond at all, as if he was already dead.
"It looks like he's fallen asleep. I have to wake him up first."
The camera began to shake, and Scott glimpsed that the lower body of the man lying on the ground was reflected in the shaking camera.
The body had no legs, and everything from the abdomen down was missing, as if it had been gnawed by some creature, with internal organs scattered everywhere.
The TV went black with a crackling sound, and the videotape ended.
