Chapter 1: The Day the Stars Return

A blue moon was embedded in the black screen-like night sky. The night mist was thick, like a layer of silver gauze, covering up the millions of stars and making them dim.

"When the stars return to their positions...when the gods awaken..."

"Great..."

"You are... the ruler of the old times..."

"You are the master of..."

“You are the source of everything…You created everything…”

"ah!!!"

Jingchuan woke up from his sleep and sat up directly from the bed, taking deep breaths continuously. He was sweating all over, his face was pale, and his eyes were bloodshot: "Huff, huff..."

An invisible voice echoed in the room, and it seemed as if there were eyes around staring at Jingchuan, which made Jingchuan feel a little scared.

It was the same dream again, but this time, Jingchuan heard more details.

The dream was filled with strange patterns and strange people. They seemed to be chanting a name all the time, and I seemed to be in the center of the altar in the dream, neither angry nor happy, like a machine, without any expression... This feeling... was as if there was no entity, empty.

In any case, Jingchuan no longer wanted to sleep. He didn't want to go back to that strange altar and face those unknown creatures who were not sure whether they were humans or some other unknown creatures.

Jingchuan is handsome and is studying at Columbia University in New York, USA. His academic performance is neither good nor bad. He is also one of the Chinese students that teachers usually don't remember.

Until one night a month ago, when the entire dormitory was awakened by Jingchuan's screams, Jingchuan's life was no longer ordinary.

That was Jingchuan’s first dream, and he dreamed of the same scene. However, the first time Jingchuan dreamed, he didn’t know what he was dreaming about, but he just felt it was very scary.

After that, Jingchuan had this dream every night, and every time he woke up, he felt that there were eyes around him staring at him. This made Jingchuan's energy weaker and weaker, and his roommates also complained a lot. Jingchuan had no choice but to rent a house.

Even if the environment changes, the nightmare remains the same and continues.

However, as the nightmare changed, Jingchuan began to understand some of the content, but this part was expressed in an indescribable language that Jingchuan had never seen or heard before.

But what impressed him most was the line "When the stars return to their positions, the gods awaken."

What are the gods? What are the stars?

Jingchuan looked up thoughtfully at the sea of stars. The stars were obscured by dark clouds and he couldn't make out anything.

After sitting for an unknown amount of time, the sky gradually began to brighten. The morning light outside the window was bright, and the sunlight slanted into the room through the window. Only then did Jingchuan stand up, ready to rush around after a day of hard work.

"It's eight o'clock in the morning in Washington, D.C...."

Jingchuan had dark circles under his eyes and looked listless. He took out the bread from the refrigerator, ate a few bites, and prepared to go out to see a psychiatrist.

He has taken a week off and has seen almost all the famous psychiatrists in New York. The doctors only told him that he was dreaming at night because he thought about it during the day, and that he should watch less TV dramas and read less novels and relax his mind.

I swear to God, I did read it before, but ever since I had the nightmare, I haven't had the energy to eat, and I haven't read novels as a form of entertainment for a long time.

After putting away the dishes, Jingchuan began to get dressed in a daze. He felt his head filled with a feeling that was difficult to describe in words.

The tiredness coming from the depths of his soul kept crashing over him, and Jingchuan felt like a walking corpse, with no meaning in life.

Jingchuan didn't know how he got out of the door. He just felt that he had arrived at the destination as soon as he left the door. The whole journey was empty and he had no impression of it at all.

New York University Medical Center, this is Jingchuan's destination. His main reason for coming here is to get some medicine to stimulate his spirit and get himself out of this state.

With his status as a Columbia University student, Jingchuan successfully made an appointment for psychological counseling.

The reason why he returned to New York University Medical Center was mainly because Jingchuan had visited almost all the famous hospitals in New York, and his wealth, which was once quite wealthy, was now very little.

"Hello, I've been feeling... a bit off lately. I often hear people talking in my head."

Sitting in front of a doctor wearing gold-rimmed glasses, Jingchuan briefly introduced his condition.

The doctor had some crow's feet at the corners of his eyes. After hearing what Jingchuan said, he immediately took out a "Davos Cognitive Bias Rating Scale" and smiled at Jingchuan, saying, "Hello, I'm Michael. In that case, let's make a chart first."

The Davos Cognitive Bias Rating Scale is used to assess cognitive biases in patients with schizophrenia, especially those with delusional disorder. It is a relatively basic form, and more importantly, it costs dozens of dollars to do it in the hospital.

Jingchuan quickly finished the form. Dr. Michael looked at it for a while, whispered with another bald doctor for a while, and then took Jingchuan to do a series of assessments: Schizophrenia Cognitive Function Test Battery, Peter version of the Delusion Questionnaire, and Hoddock version of the Psychiatric Symptom Rating Scale.

These tests troubled Jingchuan for a long time, and finally, under the professional vision of Dr. Michael and the bald doctor, they came to a conclusion: Jingchuan actually did not have any mental illness at all.

Finally, Dr. Michael pushed up his gold-rimmed glasses and said to Jingchuan politely, "How about you go to the State Mental Illness Prevention Center for a professional evaluation?"
