There was a faint sound of gunfire coming from the front, but it lasted for a very short time, basically just a flash. This sound made Charles relax a little, and he felt that the intelligence was true.
The short and rapid gunfire coming from the front doesn't that prove that the monster is vulnerable and can be dealt with with just a few bullets?
Thinking of this, Charles calmed down. After moving forward all the way, he finally arrived at the fortress defense line safely.
Charles was lucky. When he arrived, he happened to catch the invaders' two-hour rest period every day. Therefore, he did not see the invaders at the first time. He just went to the high city wall according to the instructions of his superiors, set up his rifle and prepared to shoot.
He didn't see any soldiers from the Gamma World throughout the whole process, nor did he know where their defense line was.

A new soldier at his combat post smiled nonchalantly at Charles and said, "Look, those monsters sensed our arrival and retreated immediately. I don't think it's because the monsters are too powerful, but because the soldiers of Gamma World are too weak."
"Be alert and don't underestimate the enemy."
Charles glanced at the new recruit and said, "Supernatural creatures are not that simple."
"Oh, we have mortars..."
Suddenly, a bone arrow shot out from a distance, passed through the space, and directly shot through the head of the speaking recruit. The recruit died on the spot before he could react.
“Damn it!”
Charles was startled and hid under the city wall in a hurry. He glanced outside the wall and saw dense white skeletons and bats and pigs that covered the sky rushing towards the wall where they were!
"Everyone else, prepare your defenses, artillery fire!"
Immediately afterwards, a deafening roar was heard, accompanied by the firing of mortars from the rear.
