Chapter 47 Chapter 47 Nirvana (Part 2)

Chapter 47 Chapter 47 Nirvana (Part 2)

She forgot.

Lin Chengye rubbed his temples in confusion, but still swayed as he walked step by step toward the bridge.

The path was much longer than it appeared. Lin Chengye walked for a long, long time, and the bridge and the river were still in the distance, but perhaps they were closer; she wasn't sure.

But the further Lin Chengye went, the more she realized that this place was not peaceful. She was not alone in the mist. Many fleeting shadows gradually appeared in the dense forest. They were of different heights, some fat and some thin. Some were just babies who had just learned to crawl, while others were very old, with hunched backs and walking very slowly.

Then, there were so many people that Lin Chengye felt unbearably crowded, and everyone was heading towards the bridge. She felt awkward, as if something was not quite right.

Lin Chengye was being pushed and shoved forward by pairs of hands behind her, without even giving her a chance to choose. She couldn't help but feel angry; this feeling of being left in the dark was the most disgusting.

Where are you going?

Lin Chengye asked loudly, but no one paid her any attention; they all walked on with their heads down. Or they would glance at her briefly, their eyes filled with confusion.

"Where are we going?" Lin Chengye was almost driven crazy by the silence and couldn't help but ask again.

"Cross the bridge, child. We all need to get to the other side of the bridge."

Finally, someone sighed softly. Lin Chengye looked down and saw that the person who answered her was a thin, hunched old woman.

The old woman was very old, and when she looked at Lin Chengye in surprise, she was like a slow snail. She tried to open her wrinkled, droopy eyelids and look at her through her narrowed eyes.

All his teeth had fallen out, and his once bulging cheeks seemed to leak air when he spoke, producing a faint sound.

"But why? Why are you in such a hurry?" Lin Chengye was bumped again. She didn't feel any pain, just annoyance.

"I don't remember, but I should..."

The old woman paused, then looked at the bridge in the distance, which was even more crowded. Lin Chengye narrowed his eyes and noticed many people standing motionless on the bridge, seemingly doing nothing but waiting.

"I want to go to the bridge; the person I want to see is there."

Whom do you wish to see?

"Hmm...maybe it's a child about your age." The old woman frowned, pondering for a moment.

"A child? Why is she on the bridge? I mean... why can't we go in the opposite direction?"

"She can only be on the bridge, or on the other side. Everyone has to cross the bridge, don't you have a feeling that the person you want to see is there?"

"No, I don't want to cross the bridge."

Lin Chengye asked too many questions, and the old woman found her very strange. She stopped paying attention to her, silently lowered her head, and looked at the road beneath her feet. The old woman became as silent as countless other figures, quietly transforming into a shallow river flowing towards the bridge.

After an unknown amount of time, they were finally pushed to the bridge. Just a few more steps and they could cross. The old woman suddenly became excited. She straightened her back, stood on tiptoe, and searched for something.

"Do you want to see your mother?" the old woman suddenly asked. "She might be on the bridge; you can look for her."

Lin Chengye immediately opened his eyes wide and shook his head like a rattle drum.

She didn't remember who her mother was, but hearing those two words sent chills down her spine. An unbelievable thought clearly appeared in Lin Chengye's mind.

If she were to run into her mother on this bridge right now, she would definitely get a beating.

"I don't……"

"Ah Ling! Ah Ling!"

Suddenly, the old woman cried out, but even with all her might, her voice was still a weak, breathy sound that Lin Chengye could barely hear.

The old woman's cloudy eyes shone with an alarming brightness. It was a mystery how her frail body could unleash such power as she charged forward, using her elbows and palms to push aside the people in front of her.

In an instant, the umbrella slipped from her hand and fell into the silently flowing river beneath the bridge. The girl also shouted and ran against the flow of people.

"Mother! Mother!"

"Ah Ling! Ah Ling!"

The old woman, tears streaming down her face, kissed the girl's cheeks and forehead. The girl, surprisingly, lifted the old woman up, lifted her feet off the ground, and buried her face in the old woman's hands. Then, holding each other's hands tightly, they crossed the bridge, crying and laughing.

Many people stopped to witness this scene, and were filled with envy. They watched as the girl and the old woman's figures disappeared as soon as they reached the end of the bridge.

Lin Chengye's gaze was drawn to another woman where the girl had initially stood, and he remained motionless for a long time.

That was her mother.

Lin Chengye's heart skipped a beat, but her body didn't give her a chance to think or catch her breath. She immediately gathered her breath, turned around, and ran away!

The sharp-eyed woman behind him actually made a shooing gesture towards Lin Chengye. But when she saw Lin Chengye's fleeing figure, she was first stunned, then burst into uncontrollable laughter, laughing until tears streamed down her face.

"See, I told you she would never come with us."

The woman turned around and spoke to a man behind her whose face she couldn't see.

"What if Ah Ye really comes up here?"

The man spoke softly, with a smile on his face.

"That only shows that she really suffered injustice in the human world."

People hesitate when they choose to die. If Cheng Ye hesitated, and truly didn't want to turn back, then following her wouldn't be a bad idea. The woman proudly raised her face and said.

“But... she truly is worthy of being my daughter, Lin Daiqiao.”

...

No, no.

Her path wasn't here, it shouldn't be here, she had to go back. As Lin Chengye ran, he tripped over a branch in the dense forest, falling and rolling several times on the ground before being caught by a crooked tree.

But she dared not stop, and immediately got up and continued running. She was different from the other people crossing the bridge. Lin Chengye didn't know where she was going, but she could only blindly go against the flow of people and plunge into the dense forest shrouded in mist.

"Chengye, wake up..."

She didn't know how long she had been running, but finally, instead of silence, she heard faint sounds.

"How am I supposed to wake up?!" Lin Chengye shouted back.

The mist seemed enraged, grabbing her limbs and forcing her to kneel, trying to stop her from going back. It seemed the dense forest was teeming with snakes—in the trees, in the haystacks, in the ground—watching her disheveled state, attempting to make her stop there.

Lin Chengye felt as if a python was choking her, forcing her to crawl on the ground, her knees scraping against the earth, the snake's tongue flickering near her ears. But even using her knees, she had to keep moving forward; her mind became clearer, and the restraints on her body felt weaker.

Guard your mind, guard your mind.

"Get out of here, this is my... body!" With his hands and feet bound, Lin Chengye roared ferociously, tearing at the mist with his teeth.

"Get out!"

...

"How could this be..."

Lin Chengye's eye has changed from a vertical pupil back to a round black one, and his previously long fingernails have gradually disappeared.

That human was almost across the bridge, why did they come back?! She has no memory of it, why! Why!

She had even used Lin Chengye's body to threaten Bian Yi, and he was just a hair's breadth away from dying at her hands. Soon, no one would be able to stop her.

"No! No! I've waited so long! My sister and I have waited so long..."

Lin Chengye screamed madly, but she couldn't stop the human from gradually taking back control of her body. Her soul was being pushed aside, and she was dissipating.

"You're unlucky; you've come to the wrong person."

Darkness completely filled his vision, and Lin Chengye truly woke up, replying calmly.

Bian Yi breathed a sigh of relief, wiped the blood from her face, smiled, and called out softly.

"Cheng Ye?"

The belated pain brought Lin Chengye peace of mind.

Without the snake's consciousness taking over, the intense pain of having his meridians severed returned to Lin Chengye, sometimes feeling like he was being scorched by fire, and sometimes like being pierced by ice.

But the next moment, Lin Chengye lowered his head in disbelief.

Her palm almost completely disappeared into the side of her abdomen, and she trembled uncontrollably. The sticky, soft, and warm touch felt as if it had reached her internal organs.

"Cough cough..."

The physical pain and the guilt overlapped, and in an instant, they reached the limit that Lin Chengye could bear. She knelt down uncontrollably, spitting out a mouthful of blood, which floated in the spring water in wisps.

"I'm fine, I'll slowly back out."

Bian Yi patted her head and said softly.

"The jade bed is gone. Now you can only rely on yourself. Hang in there, or nothing will be meaningful."

Lin Chengye took a deep breath and nodded. She forced herself to calm down, moved her body, and sat down with her back against the rock, like an old monk in meditation.

The immense pain was tearing her apart.

It felt as if my meridians were being severed inch by inch, and then forcibly reconnected, causing spasms in various parts of my body. At the points of rupture, it felt as if molten iron was being poured into my bone marrow, causing excruciating pain.

The newly healed area felt like unmelting ice, chilling to the bone. The bones cracked and sputtered, and Lin Chengye's mouth was filled with blood and suppressed groans.

After an unknown amount of time, when Lin Chengye was almost tormented to the point of barely clinging to life, a warm current suddenly broke through the blockage, and his meridians were finally thawed and opened up like spring water.

Lin Chengye slowly opened his eyes. The world was mostly dark, and he couldn't tell whether it was dusk or dawn.

"Why would God let you suffer so much..."

When Bian Yi saw Lin Chengye wake up, his face was rosy. Bian Yi suddenly felt a sense of unreality. She trembled as she reached out and placed her hand on the inside of Lin Chengye's wrist. The young man's pulse was strong and his skin was warm.

It's over, it's over, finally... She didn't let her senior sister down. If they meet on the Bridge of Helplessness, she can probably give her senior sister an explanation.

Her son could live, grow, and do whatever he wanted, just like a normal teenager. Bian Yi's vision gradually blurred, and round teardrops hung from her lowered eyelashes.

"Don't cry."

Lin Chengye raised her hand to wipe away the tears that had fallen onto her chin. She didn't actually feel it was bitter. Lin Chengye forced a smile and said...

"I'm very lucky."

Having narrowly escaped death, her inner sea had miraculously returned to its fullness, no different from when she was in Litao Prefecture. The fact that she could regain the second level simply by resuming her internal energy cultivation was already an unexpected delight.

As the sun rose over the distant mountains, the first rays of golden light fell upon the two of them. Bian Yi couldn't help but laugh, and Lin Chengye laughed too. Exhausted, they sat down in the spring. Bian Yi leaned on Lin Chengye's shoulder, and Lin Chengye leaned his head back against it.

It's a new day.

Author's note: It's another new day!

Chengye is a very resilient person who is determined to live; she will fight until the very last moment.

The Southern Qi chapter has finally resolved everything that could be resolved, it's perfect! (Not that I wrote it perfectly, but Cheng Ye's trip to Southern Qi was perfect, haha)

I also breathed a sigh of relief. The sickly Cheng Ye is a thing of the past. Next up is the rising star, Lin Cheng Ye, the young master of the Tianji Sect!
