Chapter 57 Chapter 57 Moving Mountains

Chapter 57 Chapter 57 Moving Mountains

Before Lin Chengye could react, she suddenly felt light as someone grabbed her by the back of her collar and pulled her lower body, which had been submerged, out of the roaring river. Then, the person grabbed her waist with one hand and lifted her out of the water, while pushing forward with the other hand, using internal force to form a wall and take her place.

A dozen or so people landed beside that man, forming a semi-circle. They simultaneously released their inner strength, filling the gap while gently guiding the water into the protective channel that Lin Chengye and the people had dug.

Lin Chengye couldn't tell whether the water that had entered her eyes and mouth came from the sky or from the river; she struggled to open her eyes a crack.

In the darkness, the clouds left no trace of moonlight, and she could only vaguely make out the silhouette of the person standing upright.

"Internal energy protects the body, and the physical body plugs the gaps!"

A slightly cold voice rang out again.

"...Chuhe?"

Lin Chengye finally managed to squeeze out two words. Incredulously, she touched the hand that was wrapped around her waist. The man clicked his tongue impatiently, seemingly annoyed by her movement. Lin Chengye withdrew her hand and gazed at Chu He's cool profile with a complex expression.

"Thank you, please put me down first."

Chu He frowned deeply, glanced at her, and her lips moved as if she wanted to say something. But the river water rushing towards them was too fierce. Chu He was distracted and staggered back a step. She quickly let go of Lin Chengye, calmed herself down, and shouted loudly.

"What should we do now? We probably can't hold out for much longer."

"Hold on until Bianyi and your master come back."

Lin Chengye placed his hand on Chu He's palm, sparing no effort to unleash all his internal energy, finally giving Chu He a chance to catch his breath and adjust.

The more Lin Chengye used her internal energy continuously, the more alarmed she became. She had no concept of these martial arts levels before, but Yu Jiang's words implied that reaching the third level was already extraordinary. Chu He was stronger than her, so she estimated that he was probably at the fourth level.

But looking at it today, it's completely insufficient. His internal energy is visibly draining away, yet the flow is relentless. Lin Chengye's heart sank, and he quickly said.

"Seven days ago, I sent Bian Yi to the capital of Southern Qi to find Chu Wuding. It took us about fifteen days to get here. If the two of them had traveled without sleep, it would have taken them about ten days."

"More or less." Chu He frowned and suddenly said.

"But why did you think of sending your master to his death? He would do his best, but he's not like our grandmaster; he would also die."

Chu He suddenly felt it was pointless; she hadn't wanted to come in the first place. If it weren't for... if it weren't for the disciples of Qingluan Xianzhi Temple petitioning, and her inability as the young abbess to stand idly by, she wouldn't have bothered.

Lin Chengye placed his palm on top of hers. Chu He clicked her tongue, wanting to pull her hand back immediately, she said.

"This river embankment should be destroyed, or it should be destroyed."

"Huh? What grandmaster?"

Lin Chengye was completely confused, not knowing what had suddenly gotten into Chu He, or who was going to die. She shouted loudly.

Lin Chengye pointed behind her, and Chu He looked in the direction she pointed. There was a tall mountain peak, like a sharp knife inserted into the mountains, with steep sides.

Chu He immediately understood Lin Chengye's meaning.

"Cut off the mountain and block the gap."

Lin Chengye didn't have much energy to speak, so he simply concluded with four words.

Since Qin Ruoliu could flatten the main peak of the Taicang Mountains with a single stroke, and Chu Wuding is also a demigod, it's not impossible.

"but……"

Lin Chengye gave a wry smile; all of this was still beyond her expectations.

Chu He's face was gradually losing its color. She turned around and looked coldly ahead. One of the weaker disciples was already pale, his legs sinking deep into the mud.

Chu He suddenly stretched out the long staff from his bosom and struck the disciple's stomach without mercy. The barrier formed by his internal energy shattered, and the disciple, who had not expected this move at all, was sent flying.

"Those who are exhausted, leave on your own! Don't make me see you off."

Chu He sneered and put away his long staff. Then he spoke to Lin Chengye.

"Just get through this night..."

Suddenly, Chu He stopped abruptly, turning around incredulously under Lin Chengye's bewildered gaze, but the night was too dark for her to find that familiar cyan color.

A familiar force, sharing the same origin as her, had just attached itself to her back. Like the ever-flowing flood before her, the force behind her was also continuously supporting her.

Chu He immediately understood what the man meant. A rare look of joy appeared on her face. She raised her eyebrows and shouted at the person struggling in front of her.

"Blue Phoenix Carrying a Ganoderma Lucidum: Listen to my command! After three breaths, all disciples, immediately cease your practice and retreat far away!"

Chu He raised her other hand, and a powerful internal force, not belonging to her, poured out with overwhelming force, directly confronting Meng Jianghe on equal footing.

Seven days.

The two of them traveled from Mengshan City to Beichen City and back in just seven days.

Chu He finally exhaled the breath she had been holding in her heart. She hadn't experienced such intense emotional turmoil in a long time, and tears streamed down her cheeks and into the corners of her mouth. Her teeth chattered, like broken silver clattering together.

She was afraid. Chu He knew very well; she understood this feeling all too well, having experienced it herself when she was a child.

She once lay in this river, a heavy boulder tied around her waist, a white cloth stuffed in her mouth, as a leisurely boat carried her to the middle of the river and threw her overboard.

She had forgotten the feeling of being on the verge of death, but she still remembered the boatman's feigned compassion as he looked down at her as she fell into the river, muttering the same phrase over and over again.

River God, please spare us... please spare us...

False gods, false believers, false compassion.

Everything is fake, except for fear, which is real.

Her bones were trembling. She was afraid of the rain, afraid of Meng Jiang swallowing her up, and even more afraid...

I'm even more afraid of those people.

The villagers who watched her step by step onto the boat had eyes that gleamed like will-o'-the-wisps—greedy, hopeful, everything. Yet, they all wanted her dead.

Chuhe seemed to see those eyes again in the rushing river. She thought that after years of seclusion on Spring Mountain, she would no longer be entangled by these past events, nor would she be moved by anything from down the mountain.

Unexpectedly... she remained terrified, still deeply disgusted by this place. She could not forgive Meng Shancheng, nor could she face the river.

"Bian Yi! Chu Wuding! The mountain to the left rear!"

Unaware of the turmoil in Chu He's heart, Lin Chengye put his hand on Chu He's shoulder and used it to propel himself up. A fierce storm rushed towards him, and he couldn't see where the two people were. He could only run and shout loudly. The bitter and refreshing rain fell into his throat, and Lin Chengye coughed a few times.

"good."

A single word gently entered Lin Chengye's ears, as tender as ever, soothing the restless night.

Suddenly, two figures, one in white and one in green, sped towards the isolated mountain peak with lightning speed.

In an instant, a powerful flash of light appeared from the dark clouds and struck the already ravaged earth, followed closely by a deafening roar of thunder that gave the land no chance to breathe. Using that sliver of light, Lin Chengye tried to find out where the people had gone and whether they had gone far.

The sound was as crisp as glass striking a porcelain vase; Lin Chengye heard the familiar sound of a sword being drawn from its sheath. She abruptly raised her head, staring intently in the direction of the mountain peak.

The white and blue blades flashed down, one on the left and one on the right, crisscrossing each other. A deafening roar resounded across the earth, and Lin Chengye's chest trembled, causing him to involuntarily spit out a mouthful of blood. The next moment, the unmoving mountain shook violently, its entire peak almost sheared off and collapsed instantly!

It's done!

Lin Chengye was overjoyed. The massive mountain was rolling down, heading straight for the breach in the riverbank; this would surely hold it back.

"Chu He! Leave!"

Lin Chengye shouted at the lone figure standing at the front, but Chu He ignored him and remained standing, maintaining the gesture of extending his arms forward.

"What's going on...?"

Lin Chengye's heart was pounding with anxiety. Without thinking, she turned around and ran again, grabbing Chu He by the back of the neck and pulling her out of the torrent, just as Chu He had grabbed her.

But for some reason, Chu He seemed lost in thought, as wooden as a puppet. Lin Chengye couldn't help but curse inwardly, "This is no time to be daydreaming!" and quickly scooped Chu He up in his arms.

Several tremendous roars shook the earth. It was unclear who had won or lost, but the day had indeed triumphed over the night. The inky black of the sky was torn open, and the horizon gradually turned into a veil of dark blue.

Lin Chengye didn't even know where she was sitting, or which mountain she was halfway up, but she wasn't in a hurry anymore. Instead, she looked at the blue sky rising on the horizon and chuckled softly.

Chu He lay on her back beside her, her whole body trembling slightly. Her lifeless eyes slowly turned when they saw the light, and then the warmth fell on her sore eyes. Chu He slowly propped herself up and looked in Meng Jiang's direction.

The mountain falls and the water stops.

As if she could breathe again, Chu He clutched her neck, gasped for breath, and squeezed out a few words.

"My cultivation is not yet sufficient."

"I really don't like listening to you talk, I don't understand you."

Lin Chengye glanced at Chu He. In fact, she was in a worse state than Chu He, with very little internal energy left. Moreover, she didn't know why, but when she relaxed her guard, she realized that she was extremely thirsty. There was water everywhere, and water was also falling from the sky. However, she was a bit proud and didn't want to lie down to drink, nor did she want to tilt her head back and open her mouth.

“I am still moved by things that are external to me. For example, I am still afraid in front of rivers.”

Chu He continued, her face no longer tense, but filled with a sense of bewilderment.

"Sigh, you..."

Lin Chengye held up a finger. She seemed to understand what Chu He was trying to say, yet she also seemed not to. So she could only ask.

How are you feeling now?

"……fine."

Chu He nodded, gazing at the rising sun. For the first time, the golden light broke through the heavy clouds that had covered the land for days, and the rain seemed to be lessening. She repeated herself softly.

"fine."

"That's settled then, isn't it?"

Lin Chengye crossed his arms and shrugged. But she was also a little curious, so she asked.

What are you afraid of?

“Meng Jiang,” Chu He said.

"You're not coming down from the mountain, aren't you afraid? Even if you cultivate for another hundred years, it won't help."

Lin Chengye reached out and tapped Chu He on the head, then suddenly said.

"I'll teach you a method, it might work."

"What?"

“Plugging the breach is only the first step. You don’t think that’s the end of it, do you, Young Master Chu?”

Lin Chengye stood up, patted the hem of his clothes, and extended his hand to Chu He.

"Don't go back to the mountain yet. Stay here and help me repair the water conservancy project, okay?"
