Tears in the Corridor
Under the cover of night, the group arrived outside the Fu residence. He Gui stayed at home to wait because he knew that being near the Fu residence would trigger a reaction.
This was Song Song's first time participating in an operation from start to finish, and he was extremely excited: "Wow, it went so smoothly! I feel a great sense of accomplishment. What's so difficult about chivalry and justice? It's not hard at all!"
Huai Jing glanced one last time in the direction where He Gui was, and frowned.
Song Song continued, "It's because we have superior skills, otherwise we would have been killed if we couldn't beat He Gui!"
Zhu Xun paused, and the next moment he heard You Youju say, "No, I feel like I've forgotten something. Song Song, could you let Qi go and keep watch at Ah Zhong's house?"
Song Song immediately replied, "Ah? Of course, Seven, Huai Jing and the others are here, I won't get hurt. You go to He Gui's place quickly."
Qi looked up at the crowd, and Youju nodded, confirming that she would protect Song Song. Only then did Qi disappear into the night.
Song Song asked like a curious child, "What's wrong?"
Zhu Xun smiled and replied, "He Gui is a spirit puppet with weak and simple magic. The dead all die from exploding bodies, which is a powerful magic. But when he attacked us, he used the silk threads that held the puppet together, a soft attack that borrows from objects."
Wasn't he tormented by inner demons?
"Yes, when he talked about Ah Zhong, his inner demons seemed to be surging, but that doesn't mean the magic would be distorted. But why did he only start seeking revenge in the last two years?"
"You couldn't beat them before?"
"Yes, that also shows that his skills have improved by leaps and bounds in the last two years."
Can spirit dolls lie?
"He may not have lied, he just didn't say it."
As they talked, they entered the mansion, and Master Fu ran out, covered in sweat: "Dear Daoists! Dear Daoists!"
Upon entering the mansion, a large number of corpses lay on the ground, indicating that all the servants had died a violent death. Zhu Xun squatted down to examine several corpses and shook his head at You Youju: "They were all drained of their life essence."
Fu Cheng's face was filled with horror, and his lips trembled uncontrollably: "Have you caught the culprit? Oh dear! What are we going to do!"
The group exchanged puzzled glances, as the talisman outside the door remained intact.
"Huaijing, can you and Song Song stay in the manor? Zhuxun and I will go and check."
Huai Jing chuckled, "Of course, brother, go ahead, I'll stay here."
Once the two figures had disappeared from sight, Huai Jing bowed to the wealthy man and asked, "Sir, may we move to the room?"
In fact, You Youju did not leave in a hurry; on the contrary, she was calm and composed.
Zhu Xun thought he was deep in thought: "Uncle, did He Gui really kill these servants? But I can understand..."
You Youju turned her head and gave him a beautiful smile: "You brat, do you have time to worry about He Gui?" It seems that this kid's way of thinking is still the same as the Demon Emperor's after all this time.
Seemingly realizing that she had said something wrong, You Youju immediately pulled back from the brink: "Um, Uncle meant that we're going to rescue He Gui who's lost his way, and we'll find out when the time comes."
Zhu Xun suppressed a laugh and followed the slightly flustered steps.
The town was eerily quiet; the only sound was the wind. A dark shadow flashed past and then swiftly flew onto a rooftop.
"Uncle, it's seven."
The two followed. Qi was exceptionally strong, but he was still just a mortal and gradually slowed down. The person he was chasing was obviously He Gui, and his direction was the Fu residence.
You Youju put two fingers together and pointed straight ahead, and immediately a strong wind blocked He Gui's steps.
He Gui glanced back, gritted his teeth, and prepared to change direction and continue. You Youju was already close enough that he couldn't move another step.
He Gui was pulled back and tried to leave, but You Youju wouldn't let it go and grabbed him.
A silk thread emerged from He Gui's sleeve, cutting his robe. You Youju loosened her grip, staring in surprise at the fabric in her hand, and did not pursue him further.
Zhu Xun and Qi had already arrived, and You Youju shook her head dejectedly: "They've slipped away."
Qi gave him a meaningful look: "Where is the young master?"
You Youju glanced towards Master Fu's residence and saw that Qi Huo had rushed off so fast that only a shadow remained.
This time, the two didn't hesitate and quickly followed.
The gates of the mansion were wide open, and it was so dark that nothing could be seen.
You Youju sighed, thinking to herself, "The real boss is right at the starting point."
The sound of weapons clashing came from the inner courtyard; it was Huai Jing.
Upon seeing the two, Huai Jing exclaimed, "Brother! He absorbed the life essence of all the servants!"
The one fighting him was none other than Master Fu. He had long since lost his previous sleazy and cowardly demeanor. Now, he was filled with demonic energy, and his moves were evenly matched with Huai Jing's.
You Youju whispered to Zhu Xun, "Go to the backyard and Fu Cheng's room to see if there are any secret rooms, especially objects that don't fit into the room. Be extra careful in your investigation."
Without hesitation, they joined the fray. This demon's fighting style was extremely cunning, seemingly lacking any real skill, and it was precisely because of this that it was repeatedly defeated by the combined forces of You and Cen.
However, Huai Jing seemed to be distracted after You Youju joined in, and before he knew it, the demon had injured his arm. Taking advantage of the situation, the demon attacked, but You Youju glared at him, reached out to block, and used the red-tailed snake bone to wrap around the demon and throw it away. Only the severed limb was still clinging to You Youju, who was disgusted and shook his hand away.
At this moment, Qi had already settled Song Song and He Gui, pushed aside Huai Jing, and joined in herself.
He threw something out of his sleeve, and the thing immediately wrapped around the exhausted demon. The rope was as heavy as a thousand pounds, slamming the demon to the ground, leaving it no chance to resist.
You Youju looked at the magical artifact with great interest, and couldn't help but joke, "I'm exhausted, why didn't you take it out just now?"
7. "Too busy to do anything else."
Ideally, you should be genuinely too busy.
You Youju let Qi take the demon to the main hall, then turned and walked towards Huaijing.
Huai Jing's injury wasn't serious; blood stained his sleeve and dripped down his wrist guard. You Youju frowned, took out a hemostatic pill from her treasure pouch, and fed it to Huai Jing. Huai Jing hesitated for a moment, then opened her mouth and swallowed the pill.
"You're smart, but a bit too straightforward. You need to be decisive and ruthless, and not assume that everyone has room for maneuver."
Huai Jing raised his eyes, then quickly looked down again: "Hmm, the talisman wasn't broken, so the crime was committed within the manor. I thought he was possessed by a demon, which is why I was a few steps late and almost got fooled."
You Youju removed her wrist guards and tore open the short sleeve, revealing an arm with a skin tone completely different from her face. Although not as tanned as her face, it was still a healthy wheat color. You Youju glanced suspiciously at Huai Jing, but did not slow down the process of applying medicine: "Oh ho, so your skin tone is from the sun."
Huai Jing was already feeling a little guilty, so he chuckled twice and said, "I'm used to being wild."
"However, your face is pretty, and it matches your skin tone perfectly, which is quite unusual. You look stunning. You have a unique charm."
Huai Jing, fearing that You Youju would see through her disguise, nervously changed the subject: "Brother, indeed, from afar you look like a white-robed minister, but you are also a charming and elegant lady."
As You Youju finished bandaging her wound, she looked up and met those trembling phoenix eyes. In that instant, she could see the man's panic. Huai Jing held her breath, her pupils dilating slightly, her delicate eyebrows raised. You Youju moved closer, looking at that beautiful face, and frowned. The two were almost within a hand's width of each other. Huai Jing could clearly smell the jasmine scent, its warmth filling his nostrils.
A moment later, You Youju stood up and pulled Huai Jing up with one hand: "You child, calling me 'brother' over and over again makes it sound like I'm taking advantage of you." He didn't linger and walked towards the main hall.
Huai Jing let out a long sigh and turned to go back to his room to tidy himself up, but he saw Zhu Xun standing in the shadow of the corridor pillar with his hands hanging down, staring at him silently for an unknown amount of time.
Huai Jing subconsciously touched his face, smiled at Zhu Xunli, and returned to his guest room.
Unseen in the corridor, another hand hung limply, dripping blood that had pooled into a puddle.
