Nuannuan pouted and nodded: "Sweet!"
Shen Yanming hugged Nuannuan tightly: "My baby is so good. It won't be long before we can see Mommy again."
"Um!"
Over there, Bi Qiaoan seemed to hear her own daughter crying, and she struggled to wake up with a frown.
When I opened my eyes, I realized I was dreaming.
As dawn broke, the people lying haphazardly around him were still snoring. Bi Qiaoan used her consciousness to wake An'an, telling him to eat his fill in the space before releasing the treasure.
"Mom!" An'an hugged Bi Qiao'an's neck, being incredibly affectionate.
Bi Qiaoan touched An'an's tummy and asked in a soft voice, "Are you full?"
An'an nodded and whispered in Bi Qiao'an's ear, "Mom, I was very good, and I even brushed my teeth."
Bi Qiaoan smiled, thinking that An'an had already seen it. Nevertheless, she kissed An'an and praised, "My darling is so good!"
But thinking about Nuannuan made me less happy.
Bi Qiaoan sighed, took out a small piece of paper and a pen from her spatial storage, and wrote on it: "Baby Nuannuan, Mommy misses you!" Then she drew a big heart on it.
The item was tossed into the storage area through a transparent light screen. Shen Yanming saw it immediately, took it out, and handed it to Nuannuan: "Here, look, this is what Mommy gave to our little Nuannuan!"
Nuan Nuan couldn't recognize many words yet, but she recognized her own name and the word "Mom" on the page. She looked up at her father, Shen Yanming, who read out each word carefully: "Baby Nuan Nuan, Mom misses you!"
Nuannuan's eyes lit up after hearing this. She smiled and hugged the little piece of paper to her chest.
Shen Yanming felt a lump in his throat and replied to Bi Qiaoan telepathically: "Wife, Nuannuan is very happy. She misses you, I miss you too, and our son."
Upon seeing this, Bi Qiaoan smiled happily and asked, "Honey, how far apart are we? Should I come to you or will you come to me?"
Shen Yanming studied their relative positions and replied, "Wife, you can stay where you are, or you can migrate with the main group. I'm quite far from you; it will take at least two weeks to walk there."
The outside is flooded, and it's impossible to travel normally. I'll come find you as soon as the tide recedes.
"Okay, I'll wait for you."
After ending the call, Bi Qiaoan asked An'an if she needed to use the restroom. Upon receiving a positive answer, she picked up her baby son and found a patch of bushes.
After confirming there were no snakes, insects, or rodents, she told An'an to squat down. She took the opportunity to grab some food from her spatial storage and swallow it quickly.
Although eating while watching someone use the toilet is quite disgusting, there's no other way now. I can't just let my son do whatever he wants or eat in front of other people.
After An'an finished relieving herself, Bi Qiaoan also took care of her own needs. Once she was feeling better, she took out wet wipes from her storage space and cleaned her and An'an's hands and faces before leisurely strolling back.
As dawn broke, many people were already awake. Seeing Bi Qiaoan and her son return, they didn't ask any further questions. It was just that little thing anyway, no need to pry and annoy others.
The elderly couple who followed Bi Qiaoan had a habit of getting up early. They got up and stretched their stiff limbs, then asked, "Daughter, are you hungry? My wife and I are planning to go find something to eat. Do you want to come?"
Bi Qiaoan shook her head, not wanting to move for the time being. However, she still reminded them, "You two should just look around nearby, but don't go too far."
"Okay, we know." The old man chuckled and pulled his wife away, along with the girls who had come over yesterday, who also went off to find their things in twos and threes.
Before long, a cry of surprise was heard in the distance: "Fish! There are fish! Great, we have something to eat!"
Bi Qiaoan looked in the direction of the sound and saw several men carrying more than a dozen fish over from a distance. She was overjoyed, feeling that heaven had not forsaken Qinghua.
But as people got closer, they realized something was wrong. These fish were all dead.
"Was the fish like this when you caught it?" Bi Qiaoan asked.
The young man carrying the fish looked at Bi Qiaoan warily and said, "What's it to you? We worked so hard to get these, you don't get any!"
Bi Qiaoan rolled her eyes and said, "I don't want to ask you for the fish. I just think something's wrong with these fish. Look at them, they're all white and there's a faint stench coming from them. They've obviously been dead for quite some time."
Upon hearing this, the young man became furious and pointed at Bi Qiaoan, saying in a fierce but weak voice, "Nonsense! I clearly caught him alive! You must be a heartless woman who doesn't want us to have enough to eat, so you're just making things up."
Seeing the several burly men glaring at him angrily, Bi Qiaoan realized there was no point in saying anything more, so he shook his head and left.
But she was still worried and decided to go to the beach anyway. She told the elderly couple what she was doing and then left with An'an.
When she arrived at the beach, she found that the tide had receded considerably. What was newly exposed was nothing but large areas of construction debris and vast stretches of silt.
However, the mud was covered with countless footprints, and there were also fish with pale skin struggling to survive.
Because of the man's cheers, many people on the shore knew there were fish. So they rushed into the mud, picked up the defenseless fish, and laughed wildly: "We've got food! We've got food!"
Bi Qiaoan frowned as she looked at them, sensing that something was amiss. She shared her discovery with Shen Yanming, and they learned that the fish were completely inedible.
"When we evacuated yesterday, Huang Mao was already sick. He had a fever and small red rashes. I don't know if it's contagious or if it will be fatal. But one thing is for sure, we can't eat fish!"
Bi Qiaoan's heart sank. She wanted to shout something, but the words caught in her throat. If she stopped people from eating fish now, she would definitely become the target of everyone's criticism. But, she really couldn't eat the fish!
Unable to bear seeing so many people die, Bi Qiaoan said to one of the people who had run ashore, "This fish doesn't look well. Maybe you shouldn't eat it?"
The man stared at Bi Qiaoan as if she were mentally challenged, and after a long while, he finally said, "You're crazy!"
Bi Qiaoan: "..." She can't control her!
I returned to my resting place with a heavy heart, only to find that the old man and woman had already sat down to rest.
Upon seeing Bi Qiaoan, the two said excitedly, "Honey, we found a bag of cookies. Do you want some? Oh, and I saw they caught some fish. How about we go catch a couple too?"
Bi Qiaoan looked conflicted. Seeing that the elderly people weren't so eager to eat fish, she whispered her guess.
The elderly couple were shocked upon hearing this, and immediately slapped their thighs, saying, "Quick, hurry and catch up with those girls! We can't let them eat whatever they want!"
After the old man ran away, the old woman said with great distress, "After you left, those young men used fish to lure the girls. Some of them couldn't resist and went with them."
