Immediately, Shen Yanming and Bi Qiaoan quickly put on long sleeves and trousers, put on headscarves and veils, grabbed cardboard boxes and bags, and headed to Qingning Mountain to dig sweet potatoes.
Before leaving home, the two thought they were the only lazy ones, and only rushed to harvest the sweet potatoes at the last minute.
When we arrived, we found that there were quite a few people working in the fields behind the hill.
Haha, they were all a bunch of people who had never done any manual labor. Back then, it was already quite an achievement for them to harvest half of the grain with all their might.
They originally planned to go back and rest for a couple of days before continuing, but after resting for two days, they lost their motivation.
They figured there wasn't much left in the field anyway, so they could still try to find a solution at the last minute.
So when they saw the message pushed by Qinghe Alliance, they all panicked and hurriedly dressed and came to Qingning Mountain, where they worked with great enthusiasm.
Shen Yanming and Bi Qiaoan ignored everyone else and started digging sweet potatoes as soon as they got to the field.
Bi Qiaoan's job was relatively easy. She simply used a sickle to cut down the sweet potato vines and then piled them up to the side.
Shen Yanming did the heavy lifting. He first loosened the soil with a hoe, and then, after seeing the sweet potato, he used his strength to dig up the soil around it.
This way, the sweet potatoes will be dug up along with the soil without being damaged.
Because he had to rush the work, Shen Yanming inevitably broke the sweet potatoes in half while digging them up, but he didn't mind and just decided to be more careful next time.
After Bi Qiaoan finished cutting all the sweet potato vines, she squatted down and picked up the sweet potatoes from the soil.
She first brushed the dirt off the top with her hands, then picked out the intact pieces without any bumps or dents and put them into the box.
As for those that were half-eaten, or oddly shaped, with wormholes, or black scars, Bi Qiaoan put them into a large woven bag.
After she finished packing all the boxes and bags she brought, Bi Qiaoan picked out the sweet potatoes and piled them into two heaps. She would come back to pack these after she had transported the packed ones back.
The two of them worked like that for more than two hours.
I received the message from Qinghe Alliance at 4:30 pm, so the sun was almost setting.
Shen Yanming looked at the large expanse of uncultivated land, sighed, threw down his hoe, and then he and Bi Qiaoan carried the cardboard boxes down the mountain.
Of course, the two of them did something a little trick before setting off: they secretly removed most of the sweet potatoes from the cardboard box, otherwise they wouldn't have been able to lift it at all.
After making two round trips and filling the trunk and back seats of the car, the two drove home first, and then carried the contents back into the house one trip after another.
After Shen Yanming and Bi Qiaoan brought the sweet potatoes home, they couldn't help but sigh. This procrastination tactic is really unacceptable. Everything must be planned in advance, otherwise you'll end up like them, rushing around in a panic and suffering.
The two ate a few magical fruits on their way, so they didn't feel too tired.
It's this psychological state that's like being chased by wolves; you can't let your guard down for even a moment.
So at home, the two of them didn't even change their clothes, had a simple dinner, took care of their bodily needs, and then went to Qingning Mountain.
The moon was already high in the sky, and only a dozen or so streetlights were on on the back of Qingning Mountain.
Although they could see the road without any problem, the light was insufficient for them to see the sweet potatoes in the field.
So the two of them made preparations before going out.
They each tied a flashlight to their waists, so that they could clearly see the sweet potatoes in front of them when they were working.
When Shen Yanming and Bi Qiaoan were on the way, they thought that only the two of them would come to work at night, and they were even thinking of secretly slacking off for a while. But who would have thought that there was never a shortage of people in the field.
Shen Yanming and Bi Qiaoan were speechless. Why were there people who were even lazier and less anxious than them?
They're lazy because they have something to rely on. As for the others, aren't they really afraid that the grain won't be harvested and will be eaten up by locusts?
Well, that's not something they should be thinking about. They just need to focus on doing their own things well.
So the two of them dug on until well past midnight.
Working tonight was really tiring and I was sleepy, and my vision was poor, but at least it wasn't that hot.
By dawn, the two had dug up everything from the two acres of land. Even though they occasionally ate some magical fruits along the way, they still felt exhausted.
The two of them didn't want to move anymore, so they sat directly on the sweet potato box, leaning against the wire mesh, quietly letting the dawn sunlight shine on them. Only at this moment did they feel a little relaxed.
Although they both knew that even if the locust swarm entered the field, they could still harvest the sweet potatoes before the swarm reached the city, the tension made them dig the ground overnight.
They thought that those who worked in the fields all night, just like them, must be thinking the same thing.
The two of them fell asleep sitting on the ground until the scorching sun woke them up.
Shen Yanming opened his eyes and exclaimed, "Oh dear, it must be eight or nine in the morning!" He quickly turned to look at Bi Qiaoan, who was leaning on his shoulder.
Bi Qiaoan was completely bewildered and had no idea what was going on. She just felt very hot, tired, and sleepy.
Shen Yanming helped Bi Qiaoan up, then hugged her and said, "Hang in there a little longer, we can rest after we get these sweet potatoes back."
Bi Qiaoan then realized what was going on. She nodded, but still didn't make any move.
Shen Yanming knew that this was hysteria and that she needed to calm down, so he sat down and kept her company.
It wasn't until more than ten minutes later that Bi Qiaoan came to her senses. Once she was awake, she returned to her energetic self, and looking at the results of their overnight work, she smiled so much that her eyes narrowed into slits.
Seeing that Bi Qiaoan had recovered her spirits, Shen Yanming didn't delay any longer. The two of them quietly reduced their weight and carried the sweet potatoes down the mountain in trip after trip.
After all the sweet potatoes were loaded onto the truck, Shen Yanming and Bi Qiaoan went back to Qingning Mountain because their chickens and geese were still in the fields.
After giving them water and food, the two felt relieved, locked the wire gate, and went home.
After carrying all the sweet potatoes from the car home, the two of them were exhausted, but they felt much more relaxed.
The two took off their dirty clothes and went into the space. After taking a nice hot bath, they went to bed and slept soundly without even eating.
They didn't know how many hours would pass before they woke up. Instead of leaving the space, Shen Yanming and Bi Qiaoan had a proper meal.
Then he collected all the grains, vegetables, fruits, fish, and shrimp in the space and put them into the storage area. Only after he saw that there was nothing else to do did he leave the space.
When I came out, I found that it was getting dark. Was it evening?
Shen Yanming picked up his phone and saw that, to his goodness, the two of them had slept until dawn the next day.
But none of that matters anymore; what matters is how to deal with those sweet potatoes.
