Chapter 252 The Sky Is Too Dark

Shen Yanming took out a thermos, poured the ginger and brown sugar water into the lid, and handed it to Bi Qiaoan, saying, "Drink this cup and then lean on me for a while."

Bi Qiaoan nodded, but the water in the cup was a little hot, so she gently blew on it and then took a sip.

There was plenty of water in the kettle, so Shen Yanming called out to Yu Shui and asked her to help distribute the ginger and brown sugar water to everyone.

The colleagues who were chatting stopped to thank Shen Yanming, but Shen Yanming just smiled and told them to continue.

After drinking the ginger tea, Bi Qiaoan wasn't as sleepy anymore, but Shen Yanming still took out a blanket from the closet and wrapped it around her so she could lean against him and doze off for a while.

"Oh my, they're openly showing off their love!" everyone joked.

Shen Yanming didn't mind, and simply said, "My wife has a special condition; she's prone to drowsiness."

"Of course, of course, it's cold and we need to keep warm." Everyone smiled like doting aunts, indicating that they all understood.

Then, a strange wind swept through the office. Yes, a strange wind!

Several colleagues were seen quietly taking out small blankets, small quilts, and large scarves from the cabinet.

Shen Yanming was stunned, while Qin Yiren and the others blushed.

"Well, we prepared all of these a long time ago, but we were just too embarrassed to take them out and use them," Qin Yiren said, sticking out her tongue shyly.

Shen Yanming nodded, not paying any attention.

Bi Qiaoan listened to the chattering in the office and drifted off to sleep. When she woke up, there was still no phone call.

It was getting darker and darker, and the sky was clearly not the kind of darkness that would occur at this time of day.

Shen Yanming got up and walked to the window, where he saw thick dark clouds gathering in the sky.

"This is... another change in the world..." Shen Yanming murmured, then sat back down.

Not long after, Zhu Shiliang came in.

"We got a call from above, but there shouldn't be any more calls today. Everyone should pack up and go home. It looks like things are about to change again."

After Zhu Shiliang finished speaking, he left. After he left, a cheer broke out in the office.

Although their workload has decreased drastically since the apocalypse began, and they even get holidays from time to time, it still doesn't stop them from enjoying getting paid without doing any work.

Uh, that makes it sound like everyone's a parasite.

Actually, that's not the case. Everyone is quite reliable when it comes to serious matters; it's just that there's not much serious business to discuss right now…

Shen Yanming and Bi Qiaoan took their empty lunchboxes and thermos flasks and went to the parking lot.

Looking at the dark sky outside, Bi Qiaoan sighed, "It's only a little past four o'clock and the streetlights are already on. This must be the earliest the streetlights have ever come on in history."

"Yeah, maybe. It might snow today. Luckily, the streetlights on the way home are solar-powered."

It does snow in Haishi, but not often. In previous years, winters were a mix of rain and snow.

However, since the end of the world, the average temperature in Qinghua Kingdom during winter has dropped significantly.

Last year, due to drought, Haishi received no rainfall. As for this year...

"Isn't it the same rain as last time?" Bi Qiaoan asked.

"It's hard to say, maybe it is, maybe it isn't, but whether it's raining or snowing, the temperature in Haishi will drop."

Bi Qiaoan pouted and stopped talking. Shen Yanming glanced at her and then focused on driving.

When the two returned to Qingyu Residential Area, the sky had already turned from dusk to darkness.

Because of the power outage, Shen Yanming and Bi Qiaoan had to climb the stairs to get home.

When he got home, he found the room pitch black, so Shen Yanming had to take out several desk lamps from his storage space.

After careful selection, Bi Qiaoan chose two bright table lamps, one for the kitchen and one for the bedroom.

Then I chose two slightly dim small table lamps, one for the doorway and one for the dining room.

After all these arrangements were made, Shen Yanming took out the small stove he had used last year from his spatial storage, lit it with some effort, and then simmered a pot of chicken soup on it.

"Are you alright at home? I'm going to the field to cover the wheat seedlings with blankets," Shen Yanming asked Bi Qiaoan.

"Is Ji Kangyong here? Let's invite him along!"

Shen Yanming nodded. "I'll call him in a bit, but he might not be off work yet."

"Then put on your hat, scarf, and gloves to keep warm. If it's too cold, don't do anything else and come back early," Bi Qiaoan instructed.

Shen Yanming smiled and patted Bi Qiaoan's head. "Don't worry, I won't make things difficult for myself. Be careful at home. If you feel sleepy and want to go to sleep, put the stove into your space first."

"Okay, I understand. Go ahead."

Shen Yanming dressed neatly as Bi Qiaoan had instructed, and only called Ji Kangyong after leaving the house.

As expected, this guy really hadn't gone home yet; he said he was on duty on some street.

The streetlights on that street were malfunctioning, and it was too dark for them to be afraid of an accident.

After hanging up the phone, Shen Yanming called Zhang Heping again, but the guy was still in the operating room.

"It seems I can only rely on myself today," Shen Yanming thought to himself.

He thought he would be working alone on Qingning Mountain again, but to his surprise, Qingning Mountain was bustling with activity, and many people were busy in the fields.

Although no one knew each other and they were so far apart that no one spoke, the light that kept flickering back and forth made it feel like someone was keeping them company.

Shen Yanming felt a sense of relief, smiled and opened his wire mesh gate, then began to spread corn stalks on the wheat seedlings.

He didn't actually know if what he was doing was right or wrong; he was just following his heart.

The other people working in the fields were there because they saw the news report about keeping crops warm during the cold spell.

Moreover, during this period they went to many places to look for straw mats and the like, and those with connections even laid plastic sheets on the ground.

Shen Yanming didn't care how others handled things; he just focused on working in the fields.

He felt that time passed quickly because he had no time to think about anything else while he was working.

But time seemed to pass very slowly because I soon started experiencing back pain.

Faced with four acres of land, Shen Yanming really felt like crying, but what could he do but keep going?

When he finally finished laying the paving on two acres of land and was about to take a break, he heard someone calling him.

Shen Yanming looked in the direction of the sound and, good heavens, could only see two dark shadows besides the light from the flashlight.

When the people got closer, they realized it was Chen Shunwei and Wang Lai!

"Long time no see, how have you been?" Shen Yanming greeted them with a smile.

"It's alright, it's just that I was on duty outside for a while, which made my family a little worried, but it's all over now," Chen Shunwei said.

Wang Lai glanced at the corn stalks in Shen Yanming's hand and said loudly, "Brother, let me help you with the work!"
