Chapter 254 Why is it so cold?

Hearing this, Shen Yanming was relieved; as long as there was a gain, that was fine.

At worst, we can all eat the vegetables we grow at home next year, or pick some lamb's quarters and elm leaves from the wild. That should be enough.

Three people working is obviously much faster than one person. Wang Lai saw Shen Yanming and Chen Shunwei whispering to each other, but he didn't care. After all, these two were the older brothers he admired, and they would never leave him out of any benefits.

This also shows that Wang Lai is truly magnanimous; if he were narrow-minded, he might have had some ulterior motives.

After the three of them covered the wheat seedlings in the field, a light rain began to fall.

Although it wasn't heavy, it was still as cold as the last rain.

Because the group hadn't come prepared, the raindrops hit their hair, faces, and hands directly, causing them to shiver.

Shen Yanming quickly put on the hood of his down jacket, then looked at Chen Shunwei and Wang Lai and said, "It's getting late, come home with me for dinner."

"That won't do. My family has saved some food for me. Wang Lai will come home with me for dinner later too," Chen Shunwei said with a smile, refusing the offer.

Shen Yanming didn't know if he was telling the truth or not, but he had just heard the rumbling sounds from their stomachs.

"It won't spoil overnight, so I'll keep the leftovers at home for tomorrow. I made some soup before I left, so it'll be ready to drink when I get back."

Shen Yanming took out his phone and saw that it was already nine o'clock at night.

He put his phone away and said to the two of them in an unyielding tone, "It's getting late. My wife is waiting at home. You two should decide quickly."

Seeing that Shen Yanming insisted, Chen Shunwei and Wang Lai exchanged a glance, then nodded and followed Shen Yanming home.

The group lowered their heads as they walked, hoping to avoid most of the rain.

When he got home, Shen Yanming opened the door and called out, "Wife, I've brought guests home!" Then he turned on the lamp on the cabinet by the door.

"Oh, who is the guest?" Bi Qiaoan, wearing bunny pajamas and cotton slippers, hopped out of the bedroom.

Upon seeing the two somewhat reserved individuals at the door, Bi Qiaoan greeted them with a smile, "Hello, it's been a long time! Come in and have a seat!"

Shen Yanming took off his gloves, opened the shoe cabinet, and took out two pairs of disposable slippers for the two of them to change into.

Then he said to Bi Qiaoan, "Chen Shunwei and Wang helped me tonight, otherwise I might not have been back until after 10 o'clock."

Bi Qiaoan gave Shen Yanming a reproachful look, "You haven't eaten yet, have you? Why didn't you call me beforehand so I could cook a few dishes?"

"It's alright, you rest, I'll take care of it in a bit." Shen Yanming reached out and touched Bi Qiaoan's face.

But he forgot that even with gloves on, his hands had been working outside for hours, and because the gloves were wet from the rain, his hands were almost frozen.

Startled, Bi Qiaoan unconsciously took two steps back, then grasped Shen Yanming's hands with both of them. "Why are you so cold?"

Shen Yanming quickly pulled his hand away and said to Bi Qiaoan, "It's raining outside. None of us brought rain gear when we went out, and this is what happened after we got soaked."

By the way, is there hot water at home?

Bi Qiaoan nodded, "Yes, I'll go pour it for you."

Bi Qiaoan turned and went into the kitchen. Luckily, she was bored today, so she opened a little extra hot water and poured it into the thermos when filling the hot water bottle.

Shen Yanming took the thermos and led Chen Shunwei and Wang Lai to the bathroom to soak their hands and wash their faces.

After Chen Shunwei and Wang Lai recovered, Shen Yanming led them to sit in the restaurant.

Once everyone was seated, Bi Qiaoan said to them, "There's chicken soup simmering on the stove. Have some to tide you over, and I'll go cook a few more dishes."

After she finished speaking, she prepared to go back to the bedroom to get the casserole, but Shen Yanming stopped her, saying, "The casserole is too heavy, I'll go get it."

Actually, it was not only heavy, but also very hot. He was afraid that Bi Qiaoan would not be able to hold it steady and would burn herself, so he thought it would be better to do it himself.

Seeing this, Bi Qiaoan didn't argue. She opened the refrigerator, took out a bag of cornbread buns she had made last weekend from the freezer, and went into the kitchen to steam them.

Then he turned around and went into the vegetable room, picked a couple of bunches of greens, a few tomatoes, and a small pile of mushrooms.

Shen Yanming hurriedly followed into the kitchen to help wash the vegetables, but Bi Qiaoan pushed him out, saying, "We can't just let the guests sit there by themselves. You should go and entertain them."

Shen Yanming nodded, told Bi Qiaoan that he had worked hard, and then went out to entertain the guests.

Bi Qiaoan had just finished stir-frying vegetables and mushrooms in the kitchen when the steamed buns were ready.

After turning off the heat, she took out seven or eight steamed buns and put them on a plate, then served the cooked food to Shen Yanming.

"I was waiting at home for Yanming to come back, so I ate some chicken, so..." Bi Qiaoan said apologetically.

"It's alright, it's alright. I haven't had meat in ages. Madam Shen, your cooking is superb, the chicken soup is delicious," Chen Shunwei quickly replied.

Wang Lai, with meat in his mouth, couldn't speak and could only nod in agreement.

"Okay, you can eat as much as you want. There's one more dish, it'll be ready in a few more minutes."

"That's enough, sister-in-law, you should sit down and eat too. Tonight's meal is already quite plentiful."

Wang Lai finally managed to swallow the chicken in his mouth and quickly said, "Brother Shen already told us that you weren't feeling well. We came over for a meal without even saying hello. We should be the ones feeling bad."

Bi Qiaoan was amused by Wang Lai's words, "What nonsense are you talking about? You two helped him, so it's only right that he treats you to a meal. Since you've come all this way, eat your fill and don't be shy with us."

Then she turned and went into the kitchen. A few minutes later, Bi Qiaoan brought out a plate of tomato and egg.

After Bi Qiaoan sat down, Shen Yanming quickly served her a bowl of chicken soup. "You've worked hard today. I should have been the one to cook."

"What are you saying? As the man of the house, of course you have to stay and entertain the guests."

Chen Shunwei and Wang Lai watched the two of them interact, feeling like they were being force-fed dog food (a Chinese slang term for witnessing public displays of affection). They could only silently eat the food in their bowls.

I must say, this tastes really good!

After dinner, Shen Yanming called Bi Qiaoan to the bedroom and said softly, "We have some yarn balls at home, right? I was thinking of giving them to Chen Shunwei so they can knit gloves."

“That’s an old one, is it okay to give it away?” Bi Qiaoan asked.

"It's alright, I've already explained it to them. New yarn is hard to buy these days, especially since ours is pure wool."

Seeing this, Bi Qiaoan took the desk lamp to the storage room and found a shoebox in a corner, inside which were several balls of yarn.

This yarn was taken from a ripped sweater by Bi Qiaoan. She had originally planned to learn how to knit and reuse the yarn. After all, she had spent some money on it, and the yarn was good quality.

"Give it all?" Bi Qiaoan asked Shen Yanming, unsure of what to do.
