Chapter 258 Darkness Devours Everything

At 4:30 p.m., the office was so dark that the words on the books were no longer visible. After a brief discussion, the group decided to leave work.

The streetlights were already on, and Shen Yanming and Bi Qiaoan drove home slowly.

We drove carefully all the way to the underground parking garage, but it was pitch black inside, like a monster that could devour everything.

Shen Yanming and Bi Qiaoan held hands tightly, then turned on the flashlight on their phones to light their way.

There was still no electricity, so the two of them could only slowly walk up the stairs.

In the past, when there was electricity, there were hardly any people in the stairwell, and some timid people were afraid to walk in it.

What's more, right now, it's pitch black, there's no one around, everything seems unknown.

The clattering of footsteps on the stairs still echoed, and a faint light illuminated the small space beneath their feet.

This looks just like a scene from a horror movie!

Bi Qiaoan clutched her heart, which felt like it was about to leap out of her chest, and dared not say anything. She simply held Shen Yanming's hand tightly and followed him toward the 16th floor.

Once inside the house, Bi Qiaoan let go of Shen Yanming's hand and awkwardly wiped her hands on her clothes. Seeing Shen Yanming's teasing gaze, she blushed involuntarily.

"I... I'm just a little nervous, my hands are sweaty," Bi Qiaoan said.

"I know, she's adorable!" Shen Yanming smiled and hugged Bi Qiaoan, giving her encouragement and courage.

To be honest, there probably aren't many girls who aren't afraid of the dark or this kind of oppressive and eerie atmosphere.

Shen Yanming turned on all the lamps in the house and then took everything out of the refrigerator and put it into his space.

"I forgot about it yesterday. I don't know when the power will come back on. I'm afraid that by the time the power comes back on, all these things will be broken!" Shen Yanming said.

As Shen Yanming was collecting the items, Bi Qiaoan also leaned over to take a look. "It's alright, these are still frozen. It seems our refrigerator's insulation is pretty good."

“Yes, these bottles of water that I usually keep have played a crucial role. Look, they haven’t melted yet.” Shen Yanming showed Bi Qiaoan the ice cubes.

Bi Qiaoan put the bottles of water into her spatial storage, then went to the bathroom to get a clean rag and wiped the refrigerator inside and out.

Then he asked Shen Yanming, "What about Zhang Heping's things? If the power doesn't come back on by tomorrow, they'll break, won't they?"

"I'll give him a call and ask. There are only two options: either make it into a durable product or put it in an environment similar to the outdoors. Anyway, it's below zero outside, so it's not much different from a refrigerator."

"We can't just hang things out of the windows in our high-rise buildings, can we? Falling objects from high places are very dangerous."

"What are you thinking? At most, we'll just give him a room, open all the windows, and create an artificial 'cold storage'!"

"Okay, okay, hurry up and ask him what to do!" Bi Qiaoan urged.

"No rush, let's eat first?"

Bi Qiaoan shook her head, "It's not even six o'clock yet, I have no appetite!"

"Alright then!" Shen Yanming put out a small stove and let Bi Qiaoan warm herself by the fire, then he went to call Zhang Heping.

"Hey Lao Shen, I'm a bit busy right now. If you need anything, just let me know. If it's not important, you can decide for yourself. I'll call you back when I'm free."

Before Shen Yanming could speak, Zhang Heping launched into a long explanation, and then, upon hearing someone call out "Dr. Zhang," he immediately hung up the phone.

"How did it go?" Bi Qiaoan asked, seeing that Shen Yanming had returned quickly and seemed to have a lot to say.

"The phone was hung up on me before I could even say anything."

Shen Yanming sat down next to Bi Qiaoan and pulled her into his arms. "It's been so long since someone hung up on me!"

"What's wrong? Are you feeling neglected?"

"No, Zhang Heping is in a hurry. I'm afraid something terrible has happened again!"

Shen Yanming felt the woman in his arms tense up for a moment, and quickly comforted her, "It's okay, it's okay, it shouldn't be that serious, otherwise Zhang Heping would definitely have called to warn you. Since he didn't say anything, he's probably just busy at the hospital."

"Um."

Bi Qiaoan nodded, but she didn't feel comforted. She just pretended not to care because she didn't want her husband to worry.

But Shen Yanming was a man who could see right through Bi Qiaoan's little scheme. However, he didn't expose her, but kept it to himself, thinking he would call Zhang Heping later to ask her about it.

"Shall we go to Zhang Heping's house first?" Shen Yanming asked Bi Qiaoan.

"good!"

The two glanced at the small stove, which was far from the bed and cabinets, then simmered a soup of white fungus, red dates, and lily bulbs on the stove before going out to the other side of the street.

Zhang Heping's house was dark and gloomy, devoid of any human presence.

Shen Yanming opened his refrigerator. The top section was empty, but the bottom freezer section was full of everything. However, the frozen meat was starting to soften, and the drawers were greasy with thawed blood.

“This won’t do, it can’t be frozen, we have to make it.” Bi Qiaoan said with a frown.

Shen Yanming had no objections, but he wondered how long it would take to finish all that meat, filling three drawers. He couldn't bear to see his wife suffer like that.

But he can't just ignore it; he can't stand waste right now!

Shen Yanming thought for a moment and said to Bi Qiaoan, "I'll ask if Ji Kangyong is here."

"Hmm?" Bi Qiaoan looked at Shen Yanming in confusion, but he didn't say anything and directly called Ji Kangyong.

"Hello?" Ji Kangyong's voice was hoarse and muffled.

"Are you sick?" Shen Yanming's first reaction was that something was wrong with him, and he asked anxiously.

Ji Kangyong scratched his head, leaned back on the bed, and after composing himself, said, "No, I was on duty all night last night and have been catching up on sleep during the day. What's wrong? Is something the matter?"

"Did I wake you up?" Shen Yanming breathed a sigh of relief.

"Hmm, but they should be awake by now, it's already evening!"

Shen Yanming chuckled. "It's only around six o'clock now."

"Are you kidding me? How could that be?" Ji Kangyong held his phone up to his face and saw that it really was a little past six.

"The sunrise today was unusual, didn't you notice?"

"It's so cold outside that my phone froze and shut down. I didn't even ask what time it was before we finished and went home at dawn. What's up with your call?" Ji Kangyong asked.

What do you do with the things in your refrigerator?

"What do you mean? The call hasn't come back yet?"

"Otherwise what?"

Ji Kangyong jumped out of bed and rushed to the living room to open the refrigerator. The meat inside wasn't completely thawed, but it was already quite soft.

"Old Shen, what do you suggest we do? This meat..."

"Either hang it under the window or make it into jerky and store it."

Ji Kangyong glanced at the heavy snow outside. The suggestion seemed pretty good, but how were they going to hang it outside the window for their high-rise buildings?
