Chapter 369 Coming for the Treasure

In the days that followed, Shen Yanming left early and returned late every day, and Bi Qiaoan couldn't stay in bed for more than two days.

Although she didn't want to go out and be stared at, lying in bed every day was really uncomfortable. The tent was stuffy, and even if she stayed still, she was covered in sweat.

It's sunny outside again, and the heat on your arms and legs can really make your skin peel.

With no other option, Bi Qiaoan could only rummage through her clothes to find a sun-protective garment, put on a parasol, and wander around the neighborhood.

But wandering around like this is really boring. Everyone here has a job, and she's the only one idle; it's really not a good look.

Bi Qiaoan decided to help out at the temporary restaurant. Although she couldn't do any heavy work, she could still manage to pick vegetables or something.

And so, Bi Qiaoan became a regular at the temporary restaurant.

In fact, she couldn't do much work sitting there every day. Although she was supposed to be picking vegetables, her work efficiency was pitifully low, and the work was mostly done by the other two workers.

Even so, everyone welcomed it. Although she did less work, it still lightened the burden on others, and chatting while working made everyone feel much more relaxed.

However, she refused every time the guards invited her to stay for a meal, always using the same excuse as before.

The guards felt that with so much food, Bi Qiaoan wouldn't be short of a bite to eat, but Bi Qiaoan believed that it was better to keep public and private matters separate.

Besides, if she goes back to cook, her meal might not be any worse than what they eat in the communal kitchen.

Okay, let's not talk about them, because Shen Bi and his wife's life is too mundane. They just do whatever others tell them to do, and there's not a single fault to be found.

Tong Xianbao and Lu Nanfang are different.

Because Tong Xianbao twisted his leg the very next day.

To be honest, even the dozens of new guards, including Li Gangtie and Zhou Qi, couldn't understand how Tong Xianbao could twist his leg on flat ground without any weight on him. Yet, the examination results confirmed that he was indeed injured.

There was nothing else Li Gangtie could do but let Tong Xianbao go back to recuperate. Luckily, Lu Nanfang didn't have much to do, so she could keep an eye on him.

But will that really be the case? Obviously not!

Lu Nanfang was also busy every day going to the residential areas of Suzhou to gather information.

On her first day, she found the gathering place of the disaster-stricken residents, and without saying hello to anyone, she went in under the guise of the guard team and chatted with those who had just experienced the human tragedy.

Because she identified herself as a member of the security team, the disaster victims, who desperately needed an outlet for their emotions, were not on guard against her and poured out everything they wanted to say, whether they should or shouldn't.

Lu Nanfang didn't get the information she wanted, so she offered a few perfunctory words of comfort and then told the other party that she would come back in a couple of days.

With such impressive verbal skills, she managed to make those who had chatted with her for an entire afternoon hold her hand and not want her to leave.

But was Lu Nanfang so easily moved? Of course not, she left without looking back.

Then, continue the next day.

However, when she returned the next evening, she found Tong Xianbao lying in the tent.

Lu Nanfang asked, "Why are you back? Weren't you carrying bricks?"

"I can't do it anymore, it's too tiring. There's no comfort in lying down compared to carrying bricks!" Tong Xianbao said.

"Your Captain Li is willing to let you lie here like this?" Lu Nanfang didn't believe that the big, dark-faced man would be so kind.

"Hey, of course I disagree, but I'm injured, so he can't do anything about it." Tong Xianbao chuckled, feeling quite clever. "Well, I twisted my leg!"

"How did you twist your ankle? Doesn't it hurt?"

"It hurts, but it's okay, it'll be fine in a few days." Tong Xianbao didn't mention how he sprained his ankle; instead, he changed the subject, "By the way, how's the investigation going?"

"It's not that easy. That kind of thing is confidential. Even the higher-ups don't know about it, let alone ordinary residents!"

"We've come here with only vague information to look for clues. Do you think we can find out anything in a day or two?" Lu Nanfang complained, lying dejectedly on the quilt.

"In my opinion, all this fuss was completely unnecessary. If there really was something like that, wouldn't they have kept it a secret and let you know about it?"

Besides, even if such a person truly existed and was discovered, wouldn't the owner be protected by the Alliance and the Guard? Is such a person someone we could possibly approach?

Tong Xianbao rolled her eyes at Lu Nanfang, "You guys are so carefree, trying to dig out other people's secrets. Don't you even know how big the gap is between you and them?"

"What's wrong? Are your family members petty? If they weren't petty, would they have pulled strings to get you into the guard team?"

Besides, this operation was planned by both families. Even if we can't uncover any secrets from the other side, we still need to cultivate a good relationship and curry favor with them, understand?

Tong Xianbao stopped looking at Lu Nanfang. He lay down on the bed, put his hands behind his head, and said, "If you can't even confirm whether the news is true or false, how can you find that one special person out of millions of people?"

Don't even mention that the whole family agrees. I never wanted to get involved in this mess; you all forced me into it. If it weren't for your wild ideas, I'd still be living a carefree life, with nothing to worry about.

Lu Nanfang was furious at her boyfriend's spineless behavior. She grabbed a pillow and threw it at him, yelling, "Damn it! A spatial dimension! A legendary artifact! And you're not even tempted!"

Tong Xianbao got angry too, grabbed the needle from his face and threw it back at him, "You're so stupid, you don't even realize it. All they said was that something went missing at the supermarket, and you guys can connect it to space. Should we say you have a rich imagination, or should we say you're crazy?"

"Me, stupid? I think you're the stupid one! You managed to move all the stuff from the supermarket right under everyone's noses? Unless you have superpowers, who could do that?"

"Ha, only a bunch of lunatics would think that way! Wouldn't the first reaction of a normal person be that there's a mole in the supermarket, colluding with outsiders to steal the goods?"

"An inside man? You might think that way if there's only one supermarket theft, but what about several in a row? You can't possibly say that all the inside men are ganging up on each other, can you?"

"What's impossible about that? The apocalypse has already happened. People with clever minds want to leave themselves a way out and take the opportunity to create some supernatural events. Isn't that normal?"

Lu Nanfang was speechless after being rebuked, but she still felt that wasn't quite right. For some reason, the word "space" lingered in her mind.

She knew that Tong Xianbao was right; even if they found someone who possessed the treasure, they wouldn't be able to easily get in touch with them. But she just couldn't accept it.

She also wanted to see if there was a chance to transfer the treasure to herself.
