Chapter 377 Revealing the Truth

As Shen Yanming carried the thin porridge back to the medical area, he could feel the burning gazes of the disaster-stricken people all the way.

Yes, it was stuck tightly to the bowl of thin porridge in his hand.

Shen Yanming was somewhat suspicious that they might come up and snatch it away at any moment. Fortunately, his worries were unnecessary. He only felt a little uncomfortable being stared at along the way, but he returned safely to the medical area.

When he arrived, Jiang Zeli was already awake, sitting on the headboard, looking completely listless.

"You know, that's enough. Why push yourself so hard? No matter how much Captain Li rewards you, you still need to be alive to enjoy it!" Ye Qingxiong said politely to Jiang Ze, who had regained consciousness.

"I... I didn't think that much about it. I just... I acted on impulse and did it." Jiang Zeli was a little embarrassed, then when he saw the person at the door, his face burned like fire.

Ye Qingxiong sensed Jiang Zeli's sudden change in mood. He turned his head and saw that it was Shen Yanming. He quickly stood up to offer him a seat and said, "He's embarrassed. Don't mind him."

Shen Yanming smiled and handed the porridge to Jiang Zeli, "Can you drink it by yourself?"

"I'll feed him, I'll feed him." Ye Qingxiong said as he brought the porridge over, then sat down at the head of Jiang Zeli's bed and helped him feed the porridge.

While feeding you, he said, "Don't be embarrassed. You fainted today, and it was Shen Yanming who carried you back. Otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to handle you by myself."

After finishing his porridge, Jiang Zeli said weakly, "Thank you, I'm sorry you had to see this."

"No, don't worry about it, get some rest." Then she said to Ye Qingxiong, "You stay here and take care of him, I'll go and talk to Captain Li?"

“Okay, I’ll go back to work once he’s recovered,” Ye Qingxiong said.

"No rush, take this opportunity to get some rest." After saying that, Shen Yanming took the empty bowl, went to the doctor to get a certificate, and then went back to the restaurant to exchange his ID for his own.

When he returned to the ruins, he was surrounded by everyone. Shen Yanming explained Jiang Zeli's situation and then continued working.

Everyone sighed after hearing this, because they could become the next Jiang Zeli at any time, so they didn't work as hard.

Seeing that everyone's hard-won enthusiasm had dissipated again, Li Gangtie felt both helpless and anxious. Seeing everyone dawdling, he simply waved his hand and ordered a fifteen-minute break.

Shen Yanming walked up to Li Gangtie and asked, "Captain Li, please give everyone a clear picture of the current situation regarding supplies. Otherwise, everyone will be confused and won't be in the mood to work."

Seeing that everyone was looking at him, Li Gangtie explained the food shortage in the Su City Guard Team: "The food we currently have is only enough to last for a week, which is why we have been cutting costs and asking everyone to increase their work efficiency in the hope of finding enough food from the ruins to balance the expenses."

Only after hearing this did everyone understand why they were eating less and less, and why their food was getting worse and worse.

Knowing the reason, everyone's attitude improved a lot. Now they were not only finding food for others, but also for themselves. So, without Li Gangtie urging them, everyone worked even more enthusiastically.

"If I had known, I would have told them the reason sooner," Li Gangtie whispered to Zhou Qi.

"Sigh, they're reasonable, aren't they? We've been keeping this a secret because we're afraid of a refugee riot. It's not easy for anyone!" Zhou Qi sighed.

Seeing that things were developing in a positive direction, Shen Yanming breathed a sigh of relief.

In the afternoon, Ye Qingxiong helped Jiang Zeli back to the team. Everyone surrounded them, asking all sorts of questions. Jiang Zeli just smiled and said, "I'm fine now, but I might have a scar in the future."

"It's alright. We're grown men, not little girls. So what if we're disfigured? It's a symbol of our bravery, something to be proud of!" a man comforted Jiang Zeli.

Jiang Zeli nodded, but with a wry smile on his face. Although he didn't care much about his appearance, who would want to have such a scar for the rest of their life, especially since it was from a fall? It was too embarrassing.

When Shen Yanming saw this, he said, "Don't worry, once your wound has healed, I'll give you a scar removal cream. It works very well; this kind of small wound will be fine."

"Really?" Jiang Zeli was somewhat incredulous.

"Of course it's true, there's no benefit in lying to you." Shen Yanming shook his head and chuckled.

"Okay, thank you, Yanming!" Jiang Zeli said sincerely.

Shen Yanming waved his hand dismissively and continued working.

That evening, Shen Yanming returned with the day's spoils and told Bi Qiaoan about the current supply situation in Suzhou City as described by Li Gangtie.

"I don't think what he said is necessarily true, but one thing is certain: the situation in Suzhou is not optimistic."

Bi Qiaoan nodded but didn't reply. Their positions were too low; all their information came from their own observations and hearsay, making it very difficult to discern the truth from falsehood.

One night passed, and it was time to continue working the next day. There really was no time to rest.

After getting up, Bi Qiaoan felt that the weather was unusually hot and humid, and she was covered in sweat after walking only a few steps.

She went back into her tent to change her clothes, and then decided not to go for a stroll anymore. She didn't come out of the tent until almost noon to prepare lunch.

But just then, the goose, which had been lying quietly in its nest, suddenly started squawking loudly and tugged at Bi Qiaoan's skirt, pulling her towards the tent.

Bi Qiaoan was stunned. What was going on? This goose was definitely not a silly goose!

Suddenly, she remembered a news report she had read before, which said that animals are often more sensitive to danger than humans. So without hesitation, she quickly put down what she was holding and took the goose back to the tent.

Less than two minutes later, Bi Qiaoan felt the earth shake violently, far more intensely than the one she had experienced in Haishi. Feeling she couldn't hold on any longer, she used her thoughts to take the goose into her spatial dimension.

Even as she lay in the space, Bi Qiaoan felt her heart pounding violently, as if it were about to leap out of her chest.

Fearing someone might come looking for her, she had to keep a close eye on the outside until about a minute had passed and the shaking of the ground had subsided. Only then did Bi Qiaoan slip out with her goose.

Fortunately, she came out in time. Just as she got into bed, she heard the guard who usually chatted with her calling from outside the tent: "Qiao An, Qiao An, are you alright?"

"It's okay, I'm fine!" Bi Qiaoan said, calming her breathing before leading the goose out of the tent.
