Although Shen Yanming was frying mushrooms in the kitchen, he kept a close eye on the sounds coming from the living room.
Although Yu Shui has a carefree personality, she does sometimes act without thinking things through.
Although he understands, he can still get quite angry sometimes.
It's like going to drive your car in an underground parking garage after an earthquake; you could have expressed your intentions more tactfully. But Yu Shui's words made him feel uncomfortable no matter how he heard them.
However, he was magnanimous and didn't dwell on it too much.
To be honest, Shen Yanming is very polite to everyone and gives people a very kind feeling. But in reality, he is cold-hearted and doesn't care about anyone except Bi Qiaoan.
Don't be fooled by his invitation to Yu Shui and the fact that he even prepared snacks for his former colleagues. In reality, these are all insignificant things; he doesn't care about them, which is why he's being so friendly.
If it really affects his and Joan's interests, especially their safety, he can abandon everyone without hesitation, without any room for discussion.
Shen Yanming snapped out of his thoughts, ladled a plate of dried mushrooms from the pot, sprinkled them with seasoning, and served them to everyone to try.
Yu Shui and Zhu Shiliang initially wanted to refuse, but Shen Yanming said he had prepared quite a lot and was worried that the lunchboxes wouldn't be able to hold it all. Since they had come all this way, they were willing to try it and give some feedback.
So the group stopped refusing and quickly devoured all the mushrooms.
They licked their lips contentedly, thinking it tasted delicious.
What they didn't know was that Old Shen had originally planned to serve them a full plate, but because of Yu Shui's words, he took two-thirds of it, leaving only a dozen or so pieces, which he arranged on a plate rather sparsely.
It looks like a lot, but with so many people, if each person only gets a taste, it's all gone.
Even so, they were quite satisfied, watching Bi Qiaoan complain, "We're so tired of eating in the cafeteria these days, we're almost sick of it."
Bi Qiaoan was puzzled. "What's going on? The food in the restaurant is pretty good, with both meat and vegetables, and it tastes pretty good."
She remembered it like this: on the day they returned from Suzhou, everyone ate a very satisfying meal.
Yu Shui shook her head, "I also thought the food would be as delicious as it was that day, but who knew that it was specially prepared to welcome the newlyweds."
Actually, the meals are quite ordinary: stewed cabbage and glass noodles with meat, stir-fried shredded potatoes with vinegar, smashed cucumber, and eggs with tomatoes.
"Aren't these good enough?"
Bi Qiaoan frowned. In her opinion, being able to eat such food in the current year was no less than a delicacy. What more could she ask for?
Yu Shui choked on her drink, then realized that she shouldn't have complained.
He tried to explain, but Cui Xian tried to smooth things over for him, saying, "It's not that the ingredients are bad, it's just that the head chef wasn't attentive enough, and the food tasted much worse than what we had the other day."
Yu Shui quickly nodded, "Yes, yes, that's exactly what I mean."
Bi Qiaoan nodded, "If that's the case, then I can understand. The head chef is in charge of the entire guard's meals. They have to cook so many dishes every day, they're exhausted, they don't have the time or energy to care about the taste."
I suppose that day, he performed exceptionally well to save face for the guard team. However, as time went on, he became complacent.
"Yeah, I guessed that was the case. Otherwise, how could they have been fine for the first two days but then shown their true colors in less than three days?" Yu Shui said, as if offering hindsight.
Bi Qiaoan simply smiled and remained silent. She felt emotionally exhausted.
Although the guards' lunch isn't free, they only charge a small fee and they even cook it for you. What more could you ask for? One shouldn't be so greedy.
Upon hearing these remarks, Shen Yanming shook his head helplessly, thinking to himself, "Does this guy even have a brain? What good does it do him to just blurt things out like that? Qiao An just warned him that loose lips sink ships, yet he still speaks so recklessly."
Even though it was just a few complaints, saying "revealed his true colors" is too harsh, as if the head chef had made a huge mistake.
Shen Yanming thought to himself, "I don't expect you to be grateful, but you should at least respect the other party's hard work. It's true that it doesn't taste good, but they still put in the effort. You can't expect a big pot of food to taste the same as a small kitchen, can you?"
He grumbled to himself, but his hands unconsciously quickened their pace.
After finally frying all the mushrooms, I put them in an oil paper bag and carried it out of the kitchen.
That's when everyone realized that they hadn't planned to put any in the lunchboxes at all. The plate of mushrooms they had just eaten was really meant for them to try.
Shen Yanming glanced at everyone and smiled, "Everything's done, you can leave now."
Zhu Shiliang nodded and took the lead in standing up.
Shen Yanming handed the oil paper bag in his hand to Bi Qiaoan, slung the bag they usually used over his shoulder, and then helped his wife out of the room.
Then they drove straight to the parking lot. Their cars hadn't been driven for several days, and a thin layer of dust had settled on them.
After discussing it, everyone decided to only drive two cars. Since they were going to the same destination, there was no need to waste gas by driving both of them.
The couple had no objection to this. However, when boarding the bus, the five men insisted on squeezing into one vehicle.
"Do they have a problem with you, or with me, or with both of us?" Bi Qiaoan was a little unhappy, feeling that her self-esteem had been trampled on.
Shen Yanming chuckled and patted her head. "Maybe she's just avoiding it because she's worried about being overwhelmed by all the PDA."
Actually, he didn't know what was going on, but this explanation made his wife feel much better.
Not long after, I arrived at the new address of my former workplace.
It was a large, two-story building, filled with individual cubicles.
They parked the car, asked around to find out which office the Human Resources Bureau was in, and then went up together.
It was 2:30 PM, the time when I usually feel sleepy at midday.
The group knocked on the glass door, startling their former colleague who was resting on the table.
But when they saw who it was through the crack in the glass, they all jumped up in surprise.
"Why are you back?" Qin Yiren exclaimed in surprise.
Hong Lixia stepped forward, glanced at everyone, and nodded, "Not bad, you've lost weight, but you've also become stronger!"
Li Yueya hugged Bi Qiaoan and asked, "Where did you all go? Why didn't you come to work after the earthquake?"
Bi Qiaoan glanced at Hong Lixia with surprise, her eyes seeming to ask, "You didn't tell them?"
Hong Lixia smiled and nodded, "I think you should come and say it yourselves."
Bi Qiaoan gave an awkward smile, glanced at Zhu Shiliang, and then hid to the side. "Boss, why don't you explain?"
Zhu Shiliang had no choice but to bite the bullet and explain how they had been transferred to the guard team.
“I wasn’t really sure at the time, so I didn’t say anything. It was only on the morning of the earthquake that I called Shen Yanming out to handle the formalities. And it was really a coincidence that we almost missed it.”
